Anyone have a virgin .dat factory backup image that can attach or email me it? Lost my files in a hard drive crash. I always save a factory original image. It would be greatly appreciated.

Unless you can be certain that someone else’s virgin dat files came from the same revision of firmware you’re better off not using a file from another radio.
If you do need to go back to the original just do a full factory reset.

I got the radio from a friend. He had applied the KT7900D mod to unlock it. Problem is it only puts out 9-10 watts instead of the 25w or so on GMRS. Talked to Radioddity about flashing it back to facotry original, they said they do not have anything to fix it and once the radio is hacked, it drops the output down to about half the wattage. I just want to try the original .dat factory image to see if by chance it would come back.

And a factory reset doesn’t restore it to full power?

Well, the good news is that 9-10 watts rather than 25 will not really affect your range too much.  That’s only half of an S-unit on the signal strength.

If you could get ahold of the service manual for the KT7900 and if you have the necessary equipment you might be able to do an alignment on it to restore full power.  I’ve never done one; perhaps some of the others here (@nokones, @Radioguy7268, @gortex2, @tweiss3, @Lscott) could comment. But I don’t know if it’s worth it to you.

Good luck! If you do get it figured out, please let us know what you did.

Edit: some of the worst radio videos on YouTube surround this particular radio and I found no service manual, but there were some sketchy broken links that promised service manuals.

I guess I don’t quite follow your description of what happened.  You said your friend applied the kt7900d mod and then gave the radio to you, but you also implied that you had the original .dat file and said you lost it in a hard drive crash.
In any case, if I ever get a db25g I guess I’ll know one thing to avoid.

That would be awesome if you could send it. He bought a KG-1000 and gave this one to me. He applied the mod to open the RX/TX, but did not realize that it effected the output. He likes tinkering with mods and such. I would like to try and get it back to factory output if possible. If it works, cool, if not no big deal. I have tried several different things and Radioddity told me it can't be done once modded. Can't hurt...

Firmware is different than the info in the data file, two different creatures. Firmware controls the radio functions while the DAT file contains how those functions operate. Restoring a DAT file is similar to reloading a program on you computer.

From what I understand, this mod is just using different software program. The software he showed me was just like the one for the DB25-G, but has a password tab, unlike the DB software..It does not say anywhere about it being or updating firmware.

The simple fact that the radio thinks it’s a kt7900 afterwards indicates that something in the firmware has been changed. Perhaps it’s just parameters that get written by the kt7900 CPS, but obviously it has been hacked. And I see where you told Al Pachito about the low power after you applied the mod. He has no idea whether his power was reduced (he said).
Is there a db25g CPS that would overwrite the kt7900 parameters?

My .dat file was read from the radio with the Radioddity CPS. I will need your email address so I can send it to you.

Probably need the firmware to overwrite it. Reset it numerous times, password changed it using multiple different resets and DB25-G, DB25 since is the same but multi-band, etc. They all worked, but they all still putting out 11w. I can get about 18w on VHF changing out the antenna for 2m (Yes, I am licensed for 2m as an Amatuer Extra). Guess it is a lost cause unless I can get the firmware for the radio and overwrite it. Thanks for the help and info guys.

I know that I have to choose the Radioddity UV-5Rx3 in CHIRP to program my Baofeng GT-5R after I opened it up for the 1.25m band. And all I did was use CHIRP to change the frequency range  for 220 MHz.

Following back up on this topic after doing a lot of troubleshooting with multiple DB25-Gs. They are know for outputting less than the advertised 25 watts (but your number seems lower than what I think is normal). I have tested two that settle in the ~16-17W range on high and one that tops out ~13-14W. Did the previous owner test the output before he flashed it? Each of the units I have received had some kind of issues (just made another post on that), so I started thinking it may not be related to opening the radio to the HAM bands?

You are probably right WSFB377. Seems odd it would change the power output that much, especially since it is doing 18w on VHF, which like you said it about average it seems. He dis not rest it when purchased, no meter, not as deep into radio's as I am.

I might play around with CHIRP selecting a different model that is compatible with the DB25-G. Like WRYZ926, I have used different models in CHIRP in the past to program radios that at the time where not listed as supported radios.
