WSCQ554 Posted Sunday at 02:27 PM Report Posted Sunday at 02:27 PM Just a general question for anyone In my area I can hear a closed repeater that is very strong sounds like it's in my back yard but it's 1 decent sized small city from me so I went to the repeater map and sent a request to get access to the repeater it was sent 2 weeks ago fast forward to now my request is still pending along with another GMRS operator from a facebook group that both of us are in and I want to send a email to that owner to let him know that there's requests pending I know in ham radio to get their email address I can go to QRZ and search for the call sign to get their address if provided but is there a way to do the same but for GMRS? Not really. There is no QRZ for GMRS. You might be able to check to see if the repeater operator is also a ham (https://gmrs.app/?) and then look on QRZ, but email addresses there are only there voluntarily. But you could always look them up on the FCC site and send them snail mail. Quote

brasda91 Posted Sunday at 10:31 PM Report Posted Sunday at 10:31 PM I have about 4 outstanding requests. They're for repeaters on my way to visit my stepson and his family and I wouldn't use them very often. I too don't understand why the owners don't reply back to us. Maybe they're looking for users in their area that will be using them alot. Maybe my sporadic usage isn't high enough on their approval list. Quote

Since they are providing the repeater use at their own expense, I wouldn’t complain. They’ll get to it when able. If you have an emergency and don’t have cell coverage, I’m sure you’re fine using the repeater. Quote

The only one I've sent a request to doesn't provide the access tone until you're approved. It's been a couple of months and I haven't gotten a response, so I interpreted that as a no. Quote

Over the years there have been different thoughts on listing repeaters on this site. In the past it was thought if its listed then at least folks know where it is. I had my repeaters listed for years as CLOSED repeaters. I still got messages over and over. I finally removed them from this site so I did not get requests from folks. Others just ignore the emails or lets face it could be in spam or other places. Quote

I can appreciate your position though I do like the idea of posting even a closed repeater or maybe private is a better way to describe it, in an attempt to minimize people adding more repeaters near one on the same frequency. This is certainly at the discretion of the owner but I was wondering if the option of disabling requests was not available before or did it not work for another reason? I see this from time to time on open repeaters, I assume so they don’t get inundated with needless requests and yet more than once I’ve heard people say that they were frustrated that people sent messages to them when they already posted that it was open or as in your case closed and I wondered why they didn’t select requests disabled. Is it an issue with the site that this doesn’t work or is it a newer option? Quote
