I'm a little confused as to why I still see this on the homepage with a Premium membership. Both of these show up on the map page at the bottom and the radio advert shows up on other pages as well.

Sometimes it takes a little while before the premium membership affects the other sections of the site. I’ll report your post so Rich, the owner, can check it.

It's your browser. Firefox with the following add-ons, uBlock Origin and Ghostery, remove all nuisances and makes for a very enjoyable internet experience no matter where you go,

Do you still see the ads?  Disregard TCP2525. There's nothing wrong with your browser. It's a hiccup in the database syncing to your membership status. The ads are a symptom, but you probably don't have access to the Premium features either so it must be fixed.

As a Premium member here is what I see at the bottom.  I just use Chrome with no ad blockers or anything of the sort.  If you still are seeing advertisements and you're not seeing the blurb thanking you for being a premium member let me know and I'll report it to Rich again.:

Why? It's the best advice for anyone that uses the internet and doesn't want to see obnoxious ads. He can still be a "premium" member and take steps to make his browsing experience more enjoyable. And if he's using a browser such as Edge, it's definitely his browser.

  1. Because it doesn’t fix the real problem,
  2. Because it masks the real problem and allows non-advertising associated issues to continue,
  3. Because it adds complexity to his browser that’s just not needed, and
  4. Because it’s just bad advice for his particular problem. It might be great advice for someone who has a different problem.

@brasda91 - are you still having this issue?  I haven’t reported it again because I haven’t heard back from you.

1) What is the real problem?

2) What real problems does it mask?

3) Huh? What complexities does it add and why aren't these wonderful browser extensions needed.?

4) Really, bad advice? Please explain the real reason. This comment makes absolutely no sense.

I'm just baffled why you feel my advice is of less value than yours, and feel the need to suggest he disregard it. My goal is to offer a general solution to make his overall experience as enjoyable as possible. I'm extremely please the OP took the initiative to become a "premium" member and financially support the forum and didn't want to see ads. He came here looking for a solution and was given two options, yours and mine. Both options are valid and yield the same results, he won't see ads. I don't understand why my opinion is any less valuable than yours. I understand there are people that get their feelings hurt when they are confronted with an opinion that differs from theirs. My goal is to help, not hurt anyone's feelings. If I did this, please accept my apology.

1. He didn’t ask how to get rid of the ads. He asked why they still appeared on the home page (www.mygmrs.com) even though he had paid for premium membership which should result in no advertising.
2. The real problem, which has been seen before, is that his membership attributes at that level hadn’t been updated to reflect his premium membership.
3. Your advice would be great for someone wishing to get rid of ads without paying for premium membership which, but that wasn’t what he asked. It’s nothing personal.

Now we are getting somewhere. You just solved your own problem. You are assuming, yes assuming, he and I want to avoid paying fees to remove ads. Had you clarified this in the beginning everyone would have understood what you really meant and we could have clarified it better. Totally unbelievable!

I don't use adblocking to avoid paying fees to any forum I subscribe to, I use it to keep my screen real estate clean and enjoyable. I financially support many forums I subscribe to. And yes, they have some of the most horribly flashy and obnoxious ads. On my smartphone, I use Brave and there's no need for add-ons as they automatically block the trash. Please do yourself a favor and stop assuming, it doesn't put you in a good light. If you don't like what I have to say, please simply ignore me, we'd both be happier.

@SteveShannon @tcp2525 Guys, it will be ok. I wasn't trying to cause a raucous.

Correct, I didn't ask "how" to get rid of the ads because it is promoted as a feature of Premium membership. As far as I knew, those weren't removable. If it's just a hick-up with the site, no problem. I agree, I shouldn't have to change browsers or install any add-ons.

I have helped in getting approval to have @WSFN475's repeater installed at my hospital. I've bought a KG-1000G and J Pole antenna from a member here and I'm looking forward to getting my base station up and running. Found out one of our officers on the fire dept is licensed in GMRS and working on convincing a fellow firefighter he needs to join in GMRS. This website is an invaluable tool in increasing my knowledge of all things GMRS, so a Premium membership is a good investment for me.

I appreciate you guys offering assistance, but please don't get angry with each other.

No surprise, you were given bad advice. Please check your ad-on section in Chrome and select an ad blocking extension you like. I am assuming, which I don't like to do, that Chrome has this feature for the desktop version.

I don't feel like I was given bad advice. I think it's just an issue with the site.

I am on a desktop. If I'm on this site, the majority of the time I'm on my laptop. I can certainly ad an ad-blocking extension. I don't think I should have to. The site should automatically remove the ads.

Trust me, it isn't you. Our goal is to help people with offering solution(s) that will give you a choice to select the one that best works for your situation. Unfortunately, some forum dwellers have a hard time accepting there are people that have differing opinions than theirs. Please enjoy the forum and feel free to ask questions as you will always get help, even through the unnecessary noise.

as you can see, installing an ad-blocker still doesn't work. The radio advert on the right side is persistent through repeaters, map and contact tabs.

The advert on the bottom of the map only shows up on the map.

I agree. Malfunctions happen with tech. I just like a clean page, that's all. I really never found the need to find out why these things happen when there's a simple solution at my fingertips. I do respect your choice of whether or not to use adblock, it's your choice. Since we now determined it's a site issue, maybe someone else will help with that. Again, please enjoy the forum.

Which adblocker did you use? I use uBlock Origin within Firefox. To remove that you simply right click on the offending ad and select "Block Element"and save. That will remove it. I think this add-on is available in Chrome.

@brasda91 as Steve mentioned this problem has come up before. As a premium member that is logged in you shouldn’t have to use an ad blocker to remove the ads. I am wondering if you have other options that are provided by the premium membership? Access to posts in classified section, unlimited likes on post? In any event I also reported your post so that it may get @rdunajewski’s attention, as the owner he is the one who can ultimately help you. Good luck.

Good morning. I think you misunderstood. @brasda91 has already paid the fees to remove ads and wants to know why they are still there. He is just trying to get what he has paid for. This is an issue for Rich.

Sorry, that is just bad English on my part. I did understand what he was saying and I agree that he should get what he paid for. As I said in a previous post and offering a general solution that will help wherever he goes on the internet, "It's your browser. Firefox with the following add-ons, uBlock Origin and Ghostery, remove all nuisances and makes for a very enjoyable internet experience no matter where you go." Trust me, I'm highly skilled at mangling the English language!😀
