wptt519 Posted January 20 Report Posted January 20 Hello anyone using MURS in the Phoenix area? Quote

I think they use a Motorola radio specifically made for them to use on MURS. I think its an RDM2070D https://www.twowayradiocenter.com/motorola-rdm2070d-walmart-two-way-radio/?srsltid=AfmBOooM22JTaiiVs6p14OGd-I6fUSuFApLIvnLQlinXImdapa0ChQhX Quote
tweiss3 Posted January 20 Report Posted January 20 Grab a scanner and spend some time listening. It's usually either not used at all, or overrun with wireless driveway alarms. It never seems to be in between. SteveShannon 1 Quote

It's basically dead, and I have a Wallmart maybe about 1.5 miles away. Quote

nokones Posted January 21 Report Posted January 21 I hear moderate amount traffic on MURS. I am unable to tell if it is Walmart, but there is one nearby where I hear the traffic along with other retailers. The traffic definitely sounds like it is retail related. Quote
Lscott Posted January 21 Report Posted January 21 A side question here. Has there been any further action to authorize a MURS like service in Canada? I know around 2014 there was talk about it but due to a lack of interest and a number of users still on the frequencies the idea was dropped. Quote

Not quite MURS, but Canada has VHF LADD mainly for logging truckers. 35 channels, same frequency range. https://www.hfunderground.com/wiki/index.php/VHF_LADD Quote

But the frequencies are incompatible with services in the US. I can picture people trying to use those frequencies, radios, here and the "interesting" results that will cause. SteveShannon 1 Quote
Lscott Posted January 22 Report Posted January 22 Here is some additional info on those VHF LADD frequencies I have book marked. There is a specific protocol, and the roads they are used on, when traveling on the "radio resource controlled roads" in some of the provinces. https://radiofreeq.wordpress.com/2018/08/30/canada-vhf-ladd-channel-list/ If you scroll down you'll see a list of frequencies. The very first one has the name "LGRANT1". The frequency listed is "143.4150" MHz which of course is just below the Ham 2M band. Humm... Quote
WSAA635 Posted Friday at 08:55 PM Report Posted Friday at 08:55 PM COSTCO in Avondale, AZ uses it but I've never tuned in to see if I could hear anything. I plan on using Blue Dot or Green Dot when I'm Out and About to keep in touch with friends who have radios since they'll probably be less traffic on it then on GMRS. Quote
LeoG Posted Saturday at 12:39 AM Report Posted Saturday at 12:39 AM I did a scan while I was in WalMart and it showed up as 154.57125. I've programmed it in and everytime we go grocery shopping I have it on. I hear the overhead announcements, manager to employee, the auto button announcement to unlock different items and of course the carriage collector. The wife and I have a blast with it. Quote
WSHI752 Posted Saturday at 05:47 AM Report Posted Saturday at 05:47 AM The Walmart in my area doesn't use MURS, but I do hear some road construction crews using it from time to time. It's usually the "flaggers" that tell you to stop or go when working on a 2 lane road. I hear them chatting back and forth. Quote
UncleYoda Posted Saturday at 01:53 PM Report Posted Saturday at 01:53 PM What's the typical range on these Walmart transmissions? The one close to me is 4-5 miles. I can get 2m simplex from someone who lives near it. If Walmart uses an antenna on the roof I might be able to receive it. I used to get Dollar Gen. distribution center 10 miles away on 460 business band (not where I live now). The highway flagmen here use FRS/GMRS frequencies without callsigns. Whether they're using FRS radios though is questionable based on range and signal strength. Quote
LeoG Posted Saturday at 02:00 PM Report Posted Saturday at 02:00 PM Not very far from my experience. At one end of the super store it comes in pretty bad. I'm not running an airband antenna though, just a 771G. I can hear them out in the parking lot pretty clear and at times I've heard them at my house which is about 1.25 miles by way of crow. But that's rare. Quote

The Wal-Mart I shop at uses 2 different models of Motorola MURS h-t's, they used to use one or two Ritron MURS base stations, but with the stock antennas on both the Motorolas & the Ritron, no roof antenna there Next time I go, I'll have to see how far away I can copy them Quote

Not to totally change the subject but I can here the local Poportillo's Drive Thru radio that's about 1.5 miles away. It's crazy listening to the orders and what food costs there. Quote
