For those that don’t think the FCC will enforce anything.
WRTC928 replied to warthog74's topic in FCC Rules Discussion
I've never believed the FCC never takes action, but I think it's pretty clear you have to pretty much be "asking for it" to catch a significant enforcement action. When I see someone fined or jailed for nothing except using an unapproved radio on GMRS, then I'll start worrying. I'm pretty much a stickler for the rules regarding power and bandwidth, because ignoring them can create problems for other users, and I try to be a decent human, but I'm not going to get my undies in a wad over someone using a ham radio on GMRS frequencies. I'm 99.999% certain nobody will know what radio I'm using unless I tell them, and I'm 99.99999% certain the FCC has better things to do than try to figure it out. Don't interfere with other users, especially business and government agencies, and you'll be fine. -
You mention that you would not recommend this radio for MURS. Why is that? Also, with respect to GMRS, you said “through some simple configuration adjustments of the band ranges in CHIRP, yes, this will work for you.” I presume you mean the regular manual frequency entries…. Anything else? THANKS

If he was genuinely a moron, I'd ignore him, but he does actually know some stuff that I occasionally find useful. I just don't know why he's gotta be such a douche about it.

No, unfortunately, when people quote his posts they still appear, unless you ignore the people who quote him.

I’m thinking of buying this radio. The specs on the Wouxon site for vhf is up to 174MHZ and 479 on UHF. You say it’s easily unlocked. Is that just a matter of inserting the frequencies into Chirp? Or, is it required to make frequency adjustments in its proprietary software? I use some MURS frequencies (151+) and GMRS.

So I blocked the pessimist quite a while ago. But his nonsense still shows up in quotes. Anyway to hide those? Live is too short, and at my age getting shorter daily, to put up with his nonsense.

I think you mean that you would like to be able to ignore specific “threads”. If you truly meant “threat” I would urge you to report any threats by clicking on the ellipsis in the upper right corner of the post that includes the threat. I would also like the ability to ignore threads.

To have an fcc fine force collected it would have to go before a judge and possibly a jury for trial. It would have to be proven beyond doubt that the fine was owned. Try convincing 12 jurors that you are the person that violated the fcc rule. See this is all civil not criminal. One could even argue that the rule is not constitutional. It’s cb not ham or gmrs so no rules have to be read before you buy a licence. IF they found with the fcc that you owned the money Then another judge would have to issue a judgement and issue a lien. Then the collecting party could ask for funds to be taken from pay checks or bank accounts. It’s a huge drawn out process that could take years. It’s not like the irs or credit card company collections that you already agreed to pay, that takes long enough. -

Its not actually blocking but rather 'ignoring' The idiot would still be there in the wild but his crazy post would be ignored on your feed.. You woiuld still have the chance to call him out.

I don't want to block any users... but I sure wish the site let you mark a THREAT as something you don't want to see come up in your "Unread topics" anymore regardless of how many new posts get added to it!

TrikeRadio replied to warthog74's topic in FCC Rules Discussion
I suppose that is so that the FCC does not have the idea that they are adding to their own budget if they hand out fines... kinda of a conflict of interest? But still, if the FCC is sending the letter and announcing the fine, either they are turning that over to some other department to enforce/collect it - and THAT department is failing to follow through, or the FCC is just sending the nasty-gram letter and never actually turning it over to whomever is supposed to enfoice/collect it. -

TrikeRadio replied to warthog74's topic in FCC Rules Discussion
Hmm.. I was thinking maybe my question would open up a discussion beyond the "it makes the sad hams feel justified" automatic response. Why is it that when the FCC actually BOTHERS to send a letter and a fine, it seems the FINE is never actually collected or enforced in any way. If it is NOT in the hands of the FCC to process and enforce that fine, but some other enforcement or Legal department of the government... Does it just never get turned over to collections by the FCC... or Does it get turned over to collections and then collections never pursues it? -

You can still see what that guys posts? Man, you gotta jump on the "block that moron" train!

I've never logged an amateur radio or GMRS contact, but I can see why some people would want to. It could be fun to look back and see how far you had reached or remember some interesting person you had talked to. I have made a "log" of sorts of people who are active on the repeaters I use. I write down their call sign, name, and a couple of tidbits about them ("WK5DKD Bob likes to go to Boom-a-rang restaurant for fish Friday." "K3OSU John travels out of town a lot for work.") It makes it more interesting to converse with them on the air. There isn't enough consistent activity on the GMRS repeaters I can reach to make it worth doing that, but that could change.

That's not true. I don't hate anyone. Although, I definitely do not have any love for Pandaland radios and radio products or other related inferior products.

I also had some mixed experiences with Wouxun and BTWR. For example, their KG-935G had a terrible implementation of the NOAA weather alerts. Then they released their KG-935G Plus. The initial model was a beta release and the "plus" version the final product. I am curious what they will tell me this time around. I will make sure to let you know here. Cheers!

I have a Wouxun KG-805G HT that decided to lose all of its programming every time it was turned off. It would revert to the Chinese factory default with only CH01, CH02, etc. and Chinese voice prompts. I kept reprogramming it and would keep it turned on in the charging stand to prevent this. I contacted BTWR.com and they replied that it sounds like the chip that stores the program info has gone bad, but it is out of warranty, so have a nice day. Just my experience. I just turned it off and put it back in the box.

FCC Improves On-line Interference Reporting
wilbilt62 replied to intermod's topic in FCC Rules Discussion
Thank you for the information in the OP. I have been experiencing loud static interference on all of the GRMS frequencies in a specific location nearby for a few years. It is strong enough to break squelch on my mobile radio (which is usually in scan mode). All 462 and 467 Mhz frequencies are affected. Interestingly, this happens in close proximity to the local Walmart store. I notice it when driving by for a block or so in any direction. I don't actually shop there. Anyway, I filed a "consumer complaint" with the FCC and received an email confirmation they had received it. We'll see. Thanks!- 42 replies
