  2. Sure, you can give up your current license and buy another, but it’ll cost you another $35. We had a member here that regularly irritated people then got a new license with different call sign. But there’s no selection of call signs. You might get something you dislike more. They’re assigned in order.
  3. I would check/confirm but mine is all boxed up and ready to give away to someone on Youtube. You should email the BTech Support with your questions - they are very good and very fast/responsive.
  4. Not on mine. That's the problem. The software I downloaded from BTech seems extremely rudimentary. For example, there are only 16 channels. Period. Supposedly, you can store up to 800 frequencies and scan them. There's no way to do any of that with this software.
  5. The payment should be associated with a FRN and show up as unused funds. If you apply for a new license using that FRN, instead of paying through the payment portal you should see your $35 there and a balance due of $0.

  7. I just came across this random review the the RT97L that was published about 3 minutes after you made this post:
  8. One should keep in mind with that pic on whether or not the vehicle would be moving in any random direction as we all do when traveling. What frequency? Too many variable to take it with even a half grain of salt. You could have -2.8db and a split second later you would have +2.8db to the receiving station.. Now if the car was stationary in an anechoic chamber there's a better chance of those numbers be acceptable. But when we get back to the real world you wouldn't be able to tell where the antenna is placed on the car.
  9. We have limited stock of the new Retevis RT97L repeater available and ready to ship before the tariffs are in place. Like most things we sell, these will undoubtedly be bumped in price, so hurry up and get them before May! Purchase the Retevis RT97L Like the RT97S, these are waterproof (IP66 for this model), have an all-metal chassis, a built-in pre-tuned duplexer, and a DB9 accessory port. 16 channels are supported, in wideband or narrowband mode. CTCSS and DCS codes can be programmed with the included USB cable, but default to 136.5 Hz with the built-in channels. The antenna connector is a UHF (SO-239) connector. There is also a built-in heater to allow cold-weather operation, and it will reduce output power if it's starting to overheat, so it can stay running for longer. The transmitter duty cycle is 100%. RepeaterID will also support these with a model specifically for this repeater. The pinout is slightly different than the RT97S series, so the original RepeaterID is not fully compatible.

  11. So--and I'm, um, asking for a friend--one can get a new license/call sign if their current one is ridiculous?
  12. After 90 days you can’t renew an GMRS license but you can get a new one. According to google’s AI refunds can be given, but it’s probably easier to apply the credit towards a new license. Call their support number. I’ve gotten excellent and friendly service the one time I called.
  13. We just need to keep reminding them.
  14. I also think there an option in the updated menu about being a non toned channel.
  15. IIRC, there is a "none" option in the CTCSS/DTS drop down list.
  16. When i had my JK Jeep, my Midland SMRS antenna was mounted on the left cowl back side of the hood. It worked fantastic in any direction. Now with my 10 meter mounted there, not so good. In fact i couldn't find a single place to mount my 10 Meter that worked as will as it does on my truck.
  17. Okay, one more thing. How do I tell it I don't want a CTCSS or DTS code enabled? "No SQ" doesn't seem to be one of the options.
  18. You are 100% correct that they are not only our representatives, but they are also there to serve us.. But It's cute that you think this would actually accomplish anything because they all seem to have forgotten about that part of the job.
  19. Aha. Good to know. I'll try that.
  20. You know, having seen that graphic many times, I just noticed a couple things I hadn't before. First, there's no rating for a hood lip or fender mount, just a mag mount. Second, the permanent trunk mount is actually rated more loss (-2.8db) compared to a mag mount on the trunk (-2.1db).
  21. The problems are that it's on a small phone screen and it seems like I have to be logged into something before it's usable. Not sure if that second part is a requirement but it's damned irritating and smells like some sort of click-bait. If worst comes to worst, I can do that, but I'd rather use CHIRP.
  22. I've used a UART gizmo in the past for connecting stuff to my home theater PC with good success so it's good sign that the K1-USB cable has that in it.
  23. I went with the seat bolt mount because the Ford Escape only has two cup holders and I didn't want to lose one of them. My brother's GMC 2500 has four cup holders up front so he went with a Lido cup holder mount. There are lots of options and sometimes you have to think outside the box.
  24. The down and dirty simple answer here is to either use to use two separate mono speakers or use a dual mono to stereo adaptor to a stereo speaker with separate left and right speakers. And the only stereo speakers I can find on Amazon all have rechargeable batteries or need a separate USB power supply.
  25. Well I was trying to keep things as simple as possible so that everyone would understand and also so they would know what does and does not work. I kept it simple so everyone would understand. Some got confused when I tried explaining impedance matching in the past. And yes yo are correct that stereo to mono plugs do not combine two channels and that is why a single mono speaker will not work. The stereo speak will work since it has a left and right speaker. Which is what I though and mentioned in previous posts.
  26. Does it say on the website that fees for licenses not issued is non refundable? If not and you get no refund call your congressman or senator. They are your representatives in government. Make them earn at least a little of their bloated salaries.
  27. This would take time but might be the only way. i have one i need to do this with
  28. Stereo to mono plugs DO NOT combine two channels but keep them separate. Combining the two channels through wiring only affects the impedance seen by the amplifier and speaker. To work correctly, the two channels have to be fed into a mixer which combines the audio signals and keeps the impedance of the circuit constant. What the stereo to mono plugs go is combine the ground return path while putting one audio signal on the tip and the other to the ring.
