  1. Past hour
  2. Listening with no RX tones will allow you to hear traffic. The call sign will tell you the licensee and their mailing address so you can send a snail mail request. What’s the call sign?
  3. Well a double post doesn’t get more answers. As for La echo 1, nope. It’s a massive huge foot print. I can hear it all over LA and the IE, up into in Santa Clarita, Ventura, antelope Valley, parts of San Diego, victor valley and in Barstow. It’s probably on mt Wilson and must be atleast 200w with a huge antenna. I have never heard anyone on it in years. Just the stupid auto ID every 5 minutes. It’s so big that if people had the tones it would be useless with 100s or 1000s of people jibber jabbing on it all day.
  4. Today
  5. Good rule for Poison Oak & Ivy, but not sumac. Poison Sumac is not three-leaved and is entirely different looking. Sumac leaves are "pinnate" (resembles walnut leaves), with 7-13 paired leaves on a stalk. Sumac is also usually found as a small tree with a woody trunk. 6. To be on the safe side, it would be best to check the VSWRs on your transmit freqs you favor most offen in both bands. Dual band antennae are a compromise and can be problematic for your radio over time if not properly tuned for your operating freqs.
  7. That's what I was saying. He'll charge you big and then only give you decimal points.
  8. Nice clean install. Looks good!
  9. Congratulations!!! Now get that General License!!! It greatly expands what frequency bands you are allowed on, which is important (from what I gather) since we will be losing 10M and 12M because of the 10 year solar sunspot cycle winding down. Though they have not been that great here in the last month or so already.... I am a newer ham and am really enjoying 20M. It is surprising how far you can comm with 20 watts when the ionosphere cooperates.
  10. Decimal points are cheaper than periods, ask any woman.
  11. Anyone know anything about the location, owner or PL tone on the LA ECHO1 W40 repeater in California on GMRS 22 462.725?
  12. Anyone know anything about the location, owner or PL tone on the LA ECHO1 W40 repeater in California on GMRS 22 462.725?
  13. Sounds like you might just be to far away. Especially on a handheld even if your in the estimated distance of the repeater you might need to walk around and see if you can find a spot. Best way you will know this is if you cannot hear people talking on the repeater then you won't be able to open it either. Find a place where the traffic is coming in perfectly clear then try again. If still no then program it on the radio and not chirp, and ensure you have the correct offset as well. Good Luck Have fun its always a learning process.
  14. Assuming your creating a node only network and talking over DVswitch or Zello only, I would think the network admin would be able to help more then someone on here since most here is just RF related. With that said with my limited knowledge of nodes I would say it sounds like you have a config issue, that your node number is not registered or approved for the network. In which case again you would need to contact your network admin.
  15. I remember during COVID lockdowns I was out walking late at night for exercise with my HT to combat the boredom. Two Hams on a local repeater talked for an hour about their model railroad hobby. That was a refreshing break from the usual stuff you hear.
  16. Hang in there, man. The steroids will help, and hopefully not have too many side effects.
  17. Out of curiosity, I took a general practice test with zero prep the other day and got maybe five questions right so I didn't think I should waste the test team's time today. I'll study for it and try in a few weeks once I've got that work cert knocked out. Ouch, you're not kidding. I've bought motorcycles for less than some of the base transceivers I saw over at DX Engineering. Though to be fair, one of the bikes was like $600 and was older than me. We bought a bag of split pea soup mix to make with leftover ham from Christmas, and then we forgot to make it.
  18. It took a while, but after looking at a variety of other options, I finally decided to get that 3rd brake light antenna mount purchased and installed. It was a little expensive, but it is working very well and I'm pretty happy with it so far! The pics below show it with a dual band 2m/70cm antenna. I've also used it simplex on GMRS with a very small Tram antenna with good results. Thanks again to all who provided constructive feedback on the topic!
  19. Congratulations on the test and welcome. Let me know if you hear a good recipe for navy bean soup. It’s my favorite ham soup
  20. Make sure he sells you periods and not decimal points.
  21. comma, comma, comma
  22. Congratulations on the new license. Yes, General is a fairly easy upgrade but be careful as the toys are expensive.
  23. Probably more money to be made on capitals.
  24. I sell punctuation cheap. Contact me for pricing.
  25. Be warned, where to get the best pizza seems to bring out hams on 2m repeaters. Congrats. Got for General ASAP, it is no harder to do than Tech and there is overlap in the question pool, you could already accidentally pass it on a lucky day.
  26. Seasonal allegories never bothered me until two years ago. I dread when late feb early may comes around. My wife used to deal with allegories then about 5 years ago just out of the blue the allegories never bothers her anymore. .. Weird how the imune system works.
