OK.. I found the problem last night. I run a PLEX server though my QNAP connected to my Windows 11 Box. When i stop Plex services but leave QNAP running i don't have any issues with my com ports and can connnect 100% to my DM32's.. So i know its PLEX and not QBAP. PLEX is somehow screwing with my COM Ports when QNAP is streaming. I have a ticket in with PLEX to see if they can hlep me with this.. I found this by shutting down services one by one.. This was driving me nuts because connecting was spontanious, it worked most of the time but now i now what is causing it. I never ran PLEX or QNAP on my 10 machine so it was alwasy unmolested. So i have a suggeston to the OP having similiar issues. start shuting down servicesa as you try to connect and see if you can find a siilair issue Good luck

Connecting the ground lead directly to the battery is not the best procedure. It is best to connect the ground lead to a factory chassis grounding points on later vehicles to prevent electrical noises being introduced by the vehicle's electrical system and modules into the radio. However, that wouldn't be the cause of your high VSWRs. I would whack off the connector and install a new amphenol connector. Be cognizant of the little Itty bitty wire strands when installing the new connector. Just for giggles, disconnect the cable from the radio and remove the antenna from the NMO. Get a multimeter and at the coax connector, check and see if you have any resistance between the center pin and the outside connector. You should have "OL" or zero ohms meaning no continuity between the two conductors. If you have any reading, then there is a direct short. If you get zero or "OL" then check the center pin and the center pin contact on the NMO for continuity and then check the outside of the connector with the outside contact point of the NMO for continuity. You should have continuity end to end and if not, you have an open circuit. Unless you have an antenna analyzer to check where the open circuit may be, it would be best to whack off the coax connector and recheck for an open circuit again. If you have an open circuit, return that cable assembly. Arcadian is easy to work with and they will take care of you.

Are there any unlicensed services that allow use of repeaters? I don't know of any. And what would happen to the repeaters? Unlicensed users are less likely to donate. And repeater owners would have a lot more junk to deal with. On the rules issue, yes I'm dealing with that now. I don't have a solution (except forget GMRS and go fight with hams over how we should be using that service meaningfully).

I did get TX and RX on 902.200MHz with the 3" stubby. This guy also got 33cm/900MHz to work but the power out put HD got was very low. So, the RT-900 WILL do 33cm but not very well.

Is there an actual NPRM on this? I have been looking for a copy of the petition, so if you know where one is available I would appreciate a link.

So license the repeaters only and have them report on usage. I’m kidding, mostly. But given the existence of FRS and the number of unlicensed people using full power ham radios without licenses on GMRS, the number of people licensed for GMRS isn’t close to an accurate tally of how many people use the service anyway.

I used to have the same misguided feelings.. But I learned from my best friend Josh that licensing is the only way the FCCs has to know how many people are using the service.. So before they start giving away frequencies they will have an idea of how many people they are going to piss-off.

I’m being serious. I believe more people than not operate without a GMRS license, even though it’s against the rules. I don’t see an end to civilization. I doubt that requiring a license makes any real difference. Of the few of us who buy licenses only a tiny fraction ever read the rules so really, what is the point of requiring licenses?

Just wanted to say I appreciate the input received. I suppose the best approach is the typical way we approach life, with a polite and respectful touch. I suppose at the end of the day I'm probably the one using GMRS as it's currently intended. I didn't go the ham route for a reason. As an aside and to wrap up my first post thread I thought I'd say a very broad thanks to the community here. As I continue to scrub through previous threads I'm learning an absolute ton with regards to equipment and practices. Cheers.

I believe Telewave still has Lowband VHF duplexers with a minimum spacing of 600 KHz.

50 years ago my father's CB did become remarkably clear for a while. Then he noticed he was replacing a lot of bulbs on his car. Luckily he caught it before the battery was cooked, the voltage regulator (old mechanical type) had gone up to about 18 volts.

I'm not sure if you're being serious there. No government issued callsign needed anymore and it would be just like CB, The low power and short antennas keep FRS radio users in check. (We don't know how many people are using GMRS radios as FRS radios.) At least if it goes unlicensed I can convert all mine to ham if I want (GMRS antennas may not be too good for TX on 440 but will RX).

i have some issues with connecting my new DM32 and finding com ports with Winoows 11.. Sometimes it works sometimes nada and thats going through the process of confirming the Com Port as Steve suggested. The radios start to connect than fail before really getting startedd. I'm not having any issues at all on my Windows 10 Labtop.. Even tried unning the software in compatability mode on Windows 11 w/ no luck. For whatever reason, it will evently connect on 11 but takes several attempts sometimes

the only low band repeaters i knew of 'back in they day' were high on top of Mountain peaks and many counties had 3 or 4 in their networks that reached every inch of their boundaries. Than came UHF and many many more mountaintops and even parking garages.

Hi Adam, It’s nice to see you back on the forum. I think it’s worse on GMRS than it is for ham radio. I agree that it would continue if new GMRS frequencies were added, but I don’t think it’s because of the new frequencies; it’s just the way people are. Without implementing draconian enforcement I don’t foresee any change. Honestly, what would it hurt if GMRS became unlicensed? Best wishes!

The petition to add VHF Low Band to the General Mobile Radio Service sounds like a good idea. However, there will still be the same issues that currently see on GMRS. I'm talking about the unlicensed individuals, the ones who refuse to follow the FCC rules and regulations, especially, when it comes to licensing. Those same individuals think just because they can purchase radio without a license, they'll use it as they see fit. That happen all the time on the Amateur Radio Bands. I certainly don't want to see what happen under Regan, where the FCC dropped the licensing on 11m Citizen Band Radio Service

Works fine for me on Windows 11. I'm not sure why I would want to see if it worked for me, but I did anyways and more than likely I probably won't do it again.
