  1. The answer to your question is "NO" .. Weird that after so many words, the question still had not been answered.

Yaseu FTM-400 will receive AM airband. I use it quite a bit more than I thought when I'm around the airports. Kenwood D-74, Yaesu FT5D, Icom ID-52 , Yaesu FT60, Yaesu FT70, Yaesu VX6R, and those are just a few of the amateur radios that can receive. Yaesu/Vertex Standard make actual airband radios you could look at as well.

I think the VX7R does, I know it will transmit 1W AM in 6m.

  4. In a sense it happened when you had to provide your call sign to join this site and it was verified against the FCC database before you were given full access. That’s one reason why the database exists and it’s also why we don’t need to carry our licenses with us.

Another inexpensive way to listen to air frequencies (or just about any other frequencies between 25MHz-1750MHz and any analog mode) is to use one of the USB SDR dongles. https://www.nooelec.com/store/sdr/sdr-receivers/nesdr-mini.html

  6. I have had the CX-333 on gable end of house (35’ off ground) for almost a year. I have been extremely happy with it. I can’t share any measurements as I don’t have any meters but have had nothing but good sound checks using a BTech UV-50x3 mobile. Repeaters 50 miles away are easy to hit. I can get some folks on VHF in simplex at over 20 miles. I have had no bad experiences with the antenna.

  7. I use the Samlex SEC-1235M for my multiple KG-1000G radios, my other 50W radios and even my 110W radio.

  8. I came from the largest linked network group (NGGMRS) to a ghost town in the middle of the country. Can’t even get anyone from the only existing GMRS club in the western portion of the state to respond. No CERT or REACT groups, either. Arkansas is pretty active, but not much in the Midwest. I’d have thought that it would be a growing interest in tornado country. Hardly any HAM, either. Anyone alive in Tulsa, OK area?

  9. I got it sorted. I had the freqs backwards. Duh!! Then the software would not download. Got that sorted, and adjusted the bands. Should be better now. Waiting on parts for the antenna build. Sent from my SM-T860 using Tapatalk

  10. Thanks for the advice. I have settled on the CX-333. FYI, I passed my Technician Exam this past Saturday.
