    Tone Button?

I just program the Monitor button for "sticky monitor" and that way if I want to hear open squelch, I can temporarily disable squelch. There's rarely any reason for me to want to listen on an open frequency 24/7 - especially if some other user has CWID or MDC on the channel. Private Line may not create any kind of privacy, but it does create peace and quiet for the non-radio geeks in my family. Or, if you've got a mobile, you can just program the radio to go into Monitor mode the moment you go off-hook. Hang up the mic = PL enabled. Pretty simple. Not sure if there's a PL enable function on any radio once you set a channel to CSQ for receive.

Put CB on top and GMRS just below it on a stand off bracket. At my last house I had that setup for 15 years.

  3. It is for Prime members only. If I am not logged in, it shows $109. If I log with my ID (I don't have Prime) it shows $109. When I log in with my son's ID (he has Student Prime) I shows $87.99.

    Motorola VX-2200 issue

Sounds to me like the repeater has a very slight delay and you’re hearing it. You could program in some hang time maybe or don’t let up on the PTT until a half second after you stop talking.

    Tone Button?

That's only applicable to high-end, former LMR, class radios. The more common GMRS mobiles (Midland MXTs, Radioddity, etc.) do not have on/off hook sensing. The microphone hanger is just a common (CB) spring clip.

  7. 464.550 is used a lot by business's and your most likely either hearing DMR or some other stuff on the channels. I can't count the amount of "building" repeaters I saw back in my shop days all on 464.550. It is an Itinerant frequency which means any business can license it. I suspect a repeater causing your noise. Put a PL/DPL tone on it and skip over it.

  10. I finally found a pin-out for the radio. https://www.project-ats.com/connecting-to-anytone-at-779uv/ Retevis said the SM01 was incompatible but I wonder if it would be if I made a made a custom cable. I am thinking the incompatibility is the cable not the mic itself. I do have one question. The radio has a ground and a mic ground and the SM01 has a ground. Which grounds would one connect? Should the SM01 ground be connected to the ground or the mic ground of the radio? Thanks

  11. I voted "No" as having a dual band VHF/UHF antenna on the corner of my vehicles, I get lots of notice from people that are either amateur and/or GMRS radio users at many stop lights. The antenna is enough of a "beacon" and all interactions have been cordial so far. Very different from when I drive my plain white Chevy Tahoe work vehicle, that looks way too much like an un-marked State Patrol vehicle at times. Everyone slows down, gets out of my way, as the antenna configuration is very similar. So is the winch mount on the front bumper. I ask for company logos on the side doors often, and my employer owns the vehicles (they are not leased which could be a valid excuse for some), as corporate does not wish to "junk up" company vehicles with stickers.

  12. Just saw this thread... Barn-R1 is up and running. It has been working for me the past couple months. And according to their web page and notes on mygmrs.com they are still in the red and asking for donations. For those in the coverage area, please support if you can. This is the best repeater in the area with the best coverage. Cheers! Jake

  13. First, welcome @WRQL415 ! I will second @Borage257to say go ahead and throw out the questions;there's a good base of collective knowledge here, and the collective "we" will likely have answers for most things short of maybe vehicle install specifics for a given vehicle model. That radio comes pretty thoroughly set up, programming wise; the main setting you may need will be t-ctcs (or t-dcs) to access a repeater. The gmrs01-gmrs07 and gmrs15-gmrs22 are your simplex (radio to radio, like cb) channels, while the REPT15-22 are set up with the appropriate offset for repeaters. You just need to put in the t-ctcs or t-dcs based on the repeater information (listing or from the owner/trustee) and that's it, programming wise. Physical setup, you will need a power supply of you're using it as a base, and an appropriate antenna. The group can definitely offer suggestions for both once we know what kind of setup you have in mind.

  14. I'd suspect those are for a VFO scan, rather than channel scan. Didn't see any option either -- it seems the scan function is just optimized to identify active channels/frequencies (in the case of a VFO/frequency scan, it appears you can save the frequency when it pauses). No carrier operated, time-out operated, or one-shot (stop of first active channel) settings

  15. First and foremost, please let me say that I do not own a BTech GMRS Pro. I am getting this information from an online manual linked below. I am sorry I couldn't do more to help aside from quoting the manual. My understanding is that there is an App available to allow you to configure the radio using your smartphone or tablet, which may be easier to manage than trying to build a channel list using only the buttons on the face of the radio. See online manual linked below for more information: Page 20: "Using The App While the App is connected to the radio, it will have full control. To use the controls on the radio, disconnect the app. Pairing Your Cellphone/Tablet to the Radio 1) Open the app, Turn-on the radio, then press the orange key twice OR scroll to [Pairing] in the menu, then select the OK button to enter the pairing state, a 'BEEP' will be heard and a red-green light flashing means the radio is now in pairing status (APP requires Bluetooth permission, please make sure the Bluetooth status is on), The APP will search for active Bluetooth devices, and it will display as shown in Figure 1." Questions 1-4) Based on the following statement from page 24, I suspect you may have to add channels to the unit's memory and/or assign channels to a scan list in order for the unit to know which channels to scan. "[Scan]: Radio will begin scanning channels programmed in the scan list. Click Single CH or Dual Ch to turn off scanning." You may have to set this function shown on page 26 for each channel you want to scan: "[Allow Scan]: Allows the channel to be added to scan lists" Scan-start and scan-end frequencies may also need to be defined: Page 32: "Click the Start frequency to set the lower frequency limit, and End to set the higher frequency limit. This will set the scan range of frequencies Click the >| to start the scan. Hit the ← next to SCAN to go back and stop scanning." Question 5) I don't see a menu selection for defining the scan mode described in the manual, though I am familiar with some other radios that allow the user to tailor the scan mode. Question 6) The manual describes the following process to add channels for specific frequencies: Pg_49: Adding A New Frequency Tip: The GMRS-PRO only allows the creation of new channels between channel groups 2-6 ① Add a regular frequency Create a new frequency list in a new group, then press the [Enter] button to add to the channel list. Press the [UP] or [DOWN] keys to select the channel number. Press the [Edit] button to edit the frequency. Then press [Edit channel], and edit the frequency and memory settings to set your frequency. ②Add a GMRS frequency Create a new frequency list in a new Group, then press [Enter] button to the channel list, press up or down keys to select channel number. press [Edit] button to edit the frequency, Press [GMRS Channel] to select the Channel, then press [Edit channel], to set your frequency. If you add a GMRS frequency, all the restrictions stipulated by the FCC will take effect, and you can only modify the parts that are allowed to be modified, if you want to clear the GMRS channel information, you can select [Clear Channel]. https://baofengtech.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/gmrs-pro_cmk1_may-25.pdf It looks like a radio with some interesting capabilities!. I hope this helps at least a little.

  16. That is sort of funny since they are not vanity plates. You have to provide your FCC license to get one, and at least here in Michigan, the cost is the same as a regular plate.

  17. I've had 3 different repeaters over the last two years: DIY 2 KG-1000Gs Retevis RT97 Vertex VXR-7000 All using the same ~$120 Tram 1486 base antenna and 75 feet of LMR400 coax The two KG-1000Gs was the most expensive (~$875) and had the most power - but it was also the most unwieldy and issue-prone The RT97 was a much more compact package, and was the least expensive (~$400), but only output about 4-5watts after the duplexer and has a limited duty-cycle The Vertex VXR-7000 (what I currently use) is by far the best solution. I paid $500 for mine (used), it puts out ~25 watts after the duplexer and it can be used 24/7 (100% duty cycle) - But because of its age its a bit of a pain to program/get set up. My recommendation, based on my experience, would be to try and get a good used commercial repeater (like the VXR-7000) OR an RT97. Next month another company will be releasing a new GMRS repeater very similar to the RT97 but easier to configure - but i'm not allowed to talk about that yet.. So you might want to wait and see if that one works better for your needs.
