With my KG1000 plus, I run A continuous twelve 12 volt relay to power the radio on the positive side, fuse of course with a 30 amp fuse. Put the ground to the closest body ground I can find. Running off of a circuit in the truck is a invitation for noise, Straight from the battery is best although fused. the battery is a giant capacitor, lots less noise and make the ground as short as possible to a body ground, do not run it back to the battery. By doing that you just made your whole vehicle a ground plane.

I get 40+ miles in MY city - but how many farz you get in YOUR city depends on what is between you and your friend. Are there any big buildings, hills, mountains, trees/forests, or houses full of fat people between you and him? ..you said you're on 467...? - do you mean you are transmitting to a repeater, or you are on one of the lower channels that are restricted to low power? What exact channel are you on?

Could be. I’m using an iPad and a Mac but not the app. It would be worth giving @rdunajewski a shout out about the app though to help him flush things like that out. As for the repeater reach check out this tool. It can give you an idea of line of site and if you might be able to get there or not, though sometimes I can hit repeaters that look like I shouldn’t be able to.

You know what's weird? I'll tell you what's weird. Thanks for asking. There was a time when CB radio was supposed to be for short range comms. Then DXers got hold of it to see how far they could talk. Like amateur radio. Then along comes GMRS. It was supposed to be for short-range comms. Then DXers got hold of it and and linked their repeaters so they can talk all over the country. Like amateur radio. With all the amateur radio bashing that goes on here, why do so many people want GMRS to be like amateur radio?

With ham radio you BYOR “bring your own radio” and there will be other people to talk to if that’s what you want. With GMRS you have to BYOOP “bring your own other people.” That’s not to say that you’ll never talk to complete strangers in distant and exotic neighborhoods not so far away, but it’s not really why GMRS exists.
