I don’t always travel into deep state trap zones but when I do I put my phone in airplane mode.

  2. I found the thread where I posted my power output results with the Q10H. It is in this thread. about the 935G https://forums.mygmrs.com/topic/9435-kg-935h-power-results/#comment-98687 I tested mine on high power and not ultra high. I always forget that the Q10H has the ultra high setting. 2m - 4.43 watts 1.25m - 2 watts 70cm - 5.9 watts 6m - 1.5 watts GMRS - 3.5 watts MURS - 1.5 watts I have never used or tested the ultra high setting on my radio. As Steve mentioned, 1-1.5 watts is not going to make a difference.

  3. The difference between 4 watts and 5.5 watts is only discernible on a watt meter. It’ll make no difference to range. Just make sure you get the features that you want.

They told us at the voter fraud conference that turning phone off protects against SingRay detection.. Googling this topic confirms that StingRay can't detect a pone f in Airplane mode or if phone is off. But it does mention there are malware apps if installed on a phone that can control a phone to make it 'look' like the phone is either off or in airplane mode. I don't think this tactic would pass the sniff test if cops deployed this.

I don’t think people understand that the gps is just a receiver. Although it’s possible to see where a person has been if you have access to the phone’s data, the gps in your phone transmits nothing by itself. If you’re in airplane mode the phone does not “ping the towers” regardless of what ChatGPT says.

    DB-20G now on Chirp

It wasn’t that they didn’t try. The code wasn’t like other radios. The programmers hit a wall, multiple tickets had been opened but progress stalled. A few months back RT Systems cracked it and came out with a Windows version on their site. I suspect this enabled the Chirp team to finally move forward..

  8. Off is not off with a cell phone. It's still pinging unless the battery is removed.

They will learn the value of using radios after the tracking-data from their phones are used during their trails to prove they were at the scene of their crime.

That would be a full violation of the eff sea seas rules/regulations. I can't imagine those breaking the law would decide to use these frequencies illegally and for illicit purposes. They should have their licenses takes away. As soon as you here them ID themselves you should write it down and report them. /S

No, I’m actually 130 miles north but I frequent the area 2-3 times a month. Been planning to stay away until it’s all clear.

You seem reluctant to disclose the Ham frequencies involved.

  17. @WSIK532 Channel 16 is the same receive frequency as RPT2. The difference is that the repeater input channel is 5.000 MHz higher. Without setting any receiver tones you’ll be able to hear the repeater but unless you have the transmit tone right they’ll never hear you.

  19. Yes it can be confusing. At least Midland puts a chart in their manuals, that does help until you learn the codes.

Using two-way radios may not be of a benefit when sophisticated DF gear is used. The local PD likely won't ave this kind of gear, but the US military, including the National Guard, might. Things get really crazy they will start looking for people. One example is this brochure. The portable units can act together in a networked configuration for faster and higher accuracy location determination. https://scdn.rohde-schwarz.com/ur/pws/dl_downloads/pdm/cl_brochures_and_datasheets/product_brochure/3606_9591_12/MP007_bro_en_3606-9591-12_v0600.pdf

  22. How does one "request access" from a repeater owner? I'm looking at the map...I've made a list of repeaters I'd like to get access to, but I don't see a way to request access from the owners. DISREGARD

It's just a ping. Sends out the phone ID, ratting you out. Yes it would make it harder, but not impossible. Best option is to leave your phone. And while an HT is an open communication it doesn't ID itself or give it's position away easily. You can communicate discretely while not technically legal it gives an alibi.

    LoRa and GMRS?

I absolutely agree about double checking the legality. Internet has little to do with this though. The fcc simply included internet because it is an example of “any other network.” Originally the prohibition was against connecting to the phone network. “GMRS stations cannot be interconnected with the public switched telephone network or any other network for the purpose of carrying GMRS communications, but these networks can be used for remote control of repeater stations.”* *The above is the FCC’s interpretation, not the actual regulations @Blaise, arguing it’s a mesh, not a network, probably wouldn’t make a great first impression on the FCC. It’s funny though.

    DB-20G now on Chirp

I just tested this to confirm, with the radio in GMRS mode, it doesn't matter what you do in Chirp to channels 8-14. I turned off TX disable. I changed power level, also tried changing the TX frequency to that of Chan 1 (462.5625). The radio refuses to TX on those channel numbers. It's locked in firmware and Chirp doesn't allow you to bypass it. ofc if you change the radio mode out of GMRS then you can do what you want.

    Air Raid

For the last 8 years we have lead 1 or 2 groups per year (20-40 Jeeps each group), up Goler Gulch, through Mormon Flat, up to Schmit Tunnel, over to Holland Camp, the Cleanser Mines, then out Last Chance Canyon. For this year's event I am thinking about getting an Air Raid Siren..

    Air Raid

Actually,, shooting on a designated BLM shooting range against a very large backdrop.. I guarantee the jeepers air raid siren was much louder than our .308 shells exploding from our AR-10's... I feel sorry for all those jeepers, they had to go clean some dust off their pretty Mall Crawlers

  34. Let's see if I can clear any of this up for you. GMRS radios set to a repeater channel will always transmit (output) on 467 and receive on 462 (input). It will be just the opposite on a repeater. The repeater will transmit on 462 (output) and receive on 467 (input) For your question on Tone vs Tone Squelch. Normally when Tone is selected, the tone is only set on your radio's transmit. Tone squelch will set the tone for both transmit and receive.

    New GMRS in Denver

Welcome to the forums. Only people in the Denver area are likely to be able to talk to you because of the distance limitations of GMRS. Your best bet would be to look at the map here to see what repeaters exist in your area and look at the clubs to see which ones are in your area.

    New GMRS in Denver

Welcome to the exciting and dynamic world of GMRS! ... One word of warning: Be wary of the trolls here on the forum that tell you that you're doing everything wrong and "if your radio cant transmit 200 miles you should throw it into the trash can" ... He's just a rheet-hard, and other than him everyone here is pretty cool.

  37. I don’t know about the RT97L, but not all radios display changing channels when scanning. That was one of the original main complaints about the Yaesu FT5DR. It showed the new channel when it paused, but not until then. A firmware update has partially fixed the problem. But it could be that scanning only works when you’re in base station mode; a scanning repeater would be kind of unusual.

  38. Why does every new license holder want to setup a repeater? I would like to shed a little light on some of the important things to consider if you recently got your GMRS license and now want your own repeater. First thing to consider, are there any open well placed repeaters in your area that you are able to use? I can assure you most repeater owners want people to use there repeater. Owning several repeaters I can assure you all are welcome and encouraged to use my machines. Do you have access to a location to host your repeater? If your answer is your garage roof you should reconsider. Your garage roof will give you about the same coverage as simplex. Unless you’re on top of a mountain and all your users are at the bottom you will never be happy with this setup. GMRS is not as popular as one would like to think, unless your repeater covers 20 miles or more you may find you only have 1 or 2 users in the area. Unless you already have a group of friends together you may want to consider this before spending money on a decent well positioned site to install your repeater. So you found a nice high site and the price is right, all you need to do is get the repeater installed, sounds simple right? Some thigs to consider first and foremost are the costs because they can add up quickly. Are you on a commercial tower that requires a license and bonded climber? If so this could be by far your largest expense depending on your area. I have spent $600 to $1200 on a climber; I have had quotes as high as $2500 depending on the amount of work and heights involved. Keep in mind commercial sites require certified mounts, hard line cable, cable clamps, engineered grounding solutions and commercial grade antennas. No tower owner is going to let you install a comet antenna and 200’ of braided shield coax. This brings me to my next point, the antenna. Because of the costs involved with climbers you will want to expend your budget on the antenna. Remember a $2000 repeater on a $200 antenna is going to work about as good as a $200 repeater. Whereas a $200 repeater on a $2000 antenna is going to work like a $2000 repeater. On my first repeater I was gifted use of a 150’ tower, I installed a DB-420 on the top and 160’ of 7/8 hardline. Total cost of equipment for the antenna install was $2500, with the climbers labor coming in at an additional $800. This left me with enough to purchase an old Motorola R100 repeater running at 25W. To my surprise it had 30 miles of coverage, all due to the cash spent on the antenna and waiting for a decent spot. Things happen, more so if you have an antenna 200’ in the air with a conductive cable connected to sensitive electronics. Antenna issues, feedline issues, repeater issues all cost money and I promise at some point you will have issues that need repair and require your money! It is my opinion that the GMRS community does not need another 2 to 5 miles repeater as it just becomes background noise. What use is a public listed repeater if somebody in a mobile can’t use it 5 miles away while moving or the portable coverage is only a mile? If after reading this you are still going to build a repeater for your garage more power to you, just don’t expect 20 people to show up if it only reaches a mile. As the owner of several GMRS and Commercial repeaters I can attest to the amount of money and effort go into my repeaters. I have only touched on the basics, if you add in any kind of testing services, duplexer tuning, addition of a combiner channel to an existing tower system, RF engineering, rent and insurance your costs can sky rocket. The best advice I can give any new licensee is to try and use the available systems in the area. Take the time to learn a little about what you’re doing and to assess the usability of the service before investing in a repeater for the sole reason of saying you own one.
