What's your GMRS mobile setup, and how does it work for you?
nokones replied to WRQC527's topic in General Discussion
I used to do that with my Cobra 19 CB Radio in my old 04 Chevrolet C3500 P/U. My 21 Chevrolet C3500 P/U wouldn't accommodate the squeeze-in very well and besides, I replaced my Cobra 19 with a Cobra 29 LTD Nightwatch with FM, so I had to fabricate a way to hang the CB on the passenger side of the center console. -

I have a Motorola XTL5000 R2 with an O5 control head Dashmount for my Base Station radio connected to a Laird B4502N 2.4 dB omni 1/2 wave non-ground plane antenna that was installed in my garage attic. My Laird FG4505 5 dB Omni base station antenna is on the roof and is used for my repeater station. For my mobile, I am using a Motorola XTL5000 R2 with an O5 control head remote mount and a Laird B4502 2.4 dB omni 1/2 wave non-ground plane antenna on a Midland Magmount base. The Midland Magmount base actually isn't too shabby if you whack off the cheap Chinese PL259 connector and replace it with an Amphenol connector. I preferred the Motorola radios because of the operating band ranges for Part 90 freqs, the 1,000 channel capacity, multiple conventional channel configurations, multiple Scan Lists, multiple programming zones, choice to use analog and Astro Digital on a per channel basis, talkaround, and a true monitor feature that defeats the receiver PL feature. I currently have 25 zones programmed in my radios for a total of 396 channel configurations. In my Truck, I have my control head mounted using a RAM ball-mount configuration with the Ram Can placed in my center console cup holder. -

Can I monitor HAM radio frequencies with a GMRS License?
nokones replied to WRWP693's topic in FCC Rules Discussion
As long it is not encrypted, in some States. -
A Plantronics headset with a coiled cord in a carry-on definitely brought the guy's with the guns over before they asked me if that was my bag jany years ago. I was wondering why they were taking so long to get my bag through the scanner.

So, with that being said, my memory did serve me right, 75 cm is 400 MHz. Well, not too shabby for an old guy with some memory left in the gray cells.
-
A few years ago, and if my memory serves me right, when I was looking into getting my HAM license, I came across the subject of converting a frequency wave length into the metric unit wave length by taking the frequency number in MHz and dividing it into 300 to calculate the wave length into metric units. As I was exercising this morning with this Exercise Ball, I noticed this Ball is 75 centimeters high and for some reason the conversion formula came to mind because it was labeled as a 75 cm Bosu Ball. So, using the said formula to calculate the wave length height into a frequency this ball would be the wave length of 400 MHz which this frequency is used for Aeronautical Navigation. I don't think this frequency is for Radar Altimeters because I think radar altimeters operate around 1 or 1.1 Gigs and Marker Beacons are around the 70 MHz range so that leaves DMEs (Distant Measuring Equipment). Am I correct? They also had a GMRS sized Exercise Ball along with an UHF T-Band (500 MHz) ball but I elected to use the Aeronautical Navigation because it is a bigger ball.

Pasternack prices are probably the result of doing business in California. They are probably being surcharged to death by the local and governmental regulatory agencies.

Yah, I know. I was born and grew up in Orange County and a 5.1 earthquake is nothing more than a liquor bottle and dish rattler. Some of those liquor bottles and dishes may make their way to the floor. In other words, its a no-bigee.

And there was an earthquake.

What PL are you using on the 675 freq pair? -

The DILA 550 repeater is an open repeater thus doesn't care what language is inputed into it. Whatever goes in should come out the same. -
A project of this nature is more involved than you think because of governmental bureaucracy. The funding of equipment, installation, engineering, and staffing; and in some cases the respective agency's employee union(s) may also be a matter.

Have you tried the Dila 550 and Sheep 725 repeaters? There both open repeaters. -
Isn't the GMRS Repeter, a.k.a. "Repeater" Channel pairs, are actually designated as GMRS channels 23-30 and the GMRS channels 15-22 are actually simplex operated channels?

Have you tried to contact an Aviation Avionics Repair/Service Company? Most of them specialize in aviation audio systems and have dealt with interfacing numerous systems to aviation onboard intercom systems. Some of them build custom audio/intercom systems that interface with various LMR systems. More than likely they may not provide any information for free but, you can try to see if they have the info you're seeking and decide from there if you want to pay or not.

Motorola CDM1550+ Power supply install for home base.
nokones replied to ADKNY98's question in Technical Discussion
Positive/red wire from the radio to the positive or plus post/contact on the power supply and the negative/black wire from the radio to the negative/minus/ground post/contact on the power supply. -
Very good point!

Advise from Midland RE: GMRS Antenna Mounting?

I think the Jeep guy's response was in future tense not in past tense. Although, since I am not an expert, just a lowly ol' internet user, I could be wrong. -
That would be UHF TV channels 14-18 a.k.a "T-Band". I believe TV Channel 14 (470-475 MHz) is used in the San Francisco TV market which is near the OP's location and the rest of the T-Band freqs are used for LMR stations in the Bay Area.
