I'm surprised that any repeater owners allow strangers to use their repeater. So many people are such jerks with their expectations of the use of a repeater owners private property.

 

I re-wrote this several times to comply with "language" allowable on this site.

Hmmmm, seems hollow, oh well.

Ive noticed that meters show lower than advertised output in UHF. The same meter will measure as expected on VHF. Meters involved are a digital Surecom 102, and a MFJ-874.

 

I'm not sure what to make of this.

 

All radios measured are CCR's Luiton , Btech, & Midland.

I've asked this before.

Why can't somebody make a GMRS mobile radio that is 25 to 40 watts, works like we want for $150? And is part 95 certified?

 

1. Clean, on frequency emissions.

 

2. Wide or narrow band. (Narrow band to work best with bubblepack radios.)

 

3. Split pl tones for tx and rx. Or just squelch.

 

4. Multiple channels for the same repeater channel to allow preprogramming of pl tones for a trip.

 

This doesn't sound like rocket science.

 

 

Just an observation, I do not have an amature license. At the present, I am not planning to get one. I don't know any one with an amature license in my area. Radios don't do much if you don't know any one to talk to.

Actually, the Midland 400 is a narrow band transmitter. The Luiton lt-590 is narrow, middle or wideband depending on how you program each channel.

The Betech GMRS-V1 is a 62$ ht radio certified for type 95e. At 62$ there us not much charged for the Cert. (Maybe 45$ to 50$ at most)

The Luiton UHF LT-590 appears to be the same physical radio as the Midland XMT400. I have both and opened them both up, Identical components including board markings.

 

My question is what is Luiton's relation with other Chinese mfgs? (Who makes Luiton?)

Wow Spaz, Thanks again for the tech review of this radio. I wish you had done one on another popular, and infamous 40 watt GMRS before I bought one.

 

I would love to see a side by side comparison of the two radios.

Play by the rules! Anything else will result in GMRS going the way of CB radio.

Hi, many repeaters can use a different pl tones for tx and rx, or no tone at all. The gmrs-v1 is capable of scanning pl tones. Using another radio to activate the repeater scan the pl tone when the repeater is active. This should tell you the correct rx tone for the gmrs-v1.
