  1. As far as Ivy, still immune as of last weekend. I'll know about the Oak, sumac and stinging nettles this weekend after we visit the river land...
  2. well, it's been 69 years so, I think I'm in the clear there?
  3. ARRL has log books. I have a mini one for the occasional portable no cell service ops. Never have I ever logged a GMRS or CBRS contact, but the fields in a log book can be modified to suit any radio service I would think.
  4. Now that's just what Randolpho ordered!!!
  5. No bueno there my friend. I am fortunate in that I am not affected by PO, PI or Stinging Nettles. My wife didn't believe me about the PI, until I picked up a bunch from a plant in our back yard, and suffered nothing. The hill behind our garage is covered in the stuff. She, OTOH, is very much affected by them all. Makes hiking our river land an adventure in avoidance for her where I just plow on thru the itchweed...
  6. I've not ever seen this movie, so I'm glad to know I don't know what you're talking about for once!
  7. Learned Elmers Are Really NIce - he was describing you amd MarcSpaz Steve!
  8. Staycation with Horace and Daniel?
  9. If they're any kind of good BN's they'll also take credit for the idea!!!
  10. Pretty much how it is here. Of course since it's mostly me and mine, how can it not be? Other than a small group of friends nearby that I talk with occasionally at home, I don't use GMRS unless I'm out of town up where there's no cell service.
  11. I've never been asked to produce a copy of either my Amateur or GMRS licenses. I've heard tell of a couple instances of SH's asking to see someone's license before they let them key up their precious Hams radio, but only as hearsay...
  12. GMRS etiquette - almost as prevalent as FCC enforcement!
  13. Every 15 minutes and at the end of your conversation. As far as the other etiquette issues, pretty much what the previous replies have noted. As far as calling other users, Callsign or name or nickname, whatever gets their attention if they're listening. Some areas have active simplex and repeaters in use, but for the most part GMRS is a "bring your own" type of service. In my case it's my wife and son using it when up north away from cell phone service, around the large city lot at home and with a small number of friends near home we chat with occasionally. I rarely use repeaters. Have fun however you use it, and don't overthink it or take too much umbrage if some self appointed radio cop gives you grief if you do "something wrong."
  14. I've only ever seen one other site that's close at all, and a very distant second at that. So distant that I can't even recall it's name or the URL. I'm here mostly as I'm into all facets of the radio world, but I do generally only use GMRS radios when out doing things, barely, if ever use a repeater. But interesting to see what else is going on out there and this is the best place to find that for GMRS.
  15. Good thing CostCo has those 35 packs - 29 for y'all and a six pack for me.
  16. I'm good with things as is, no need to ignore.
  17. What and miss all the fun?
  18. Never post those vacation details on FB until after the the fact!
  19. CW = Continous Wave, or morse code. And yes, if the letters can be construed as an expletive, DMV might balk. Althought my buddy's amateur call that ended in FKU was no problem with DVS here in MN.
  20. Piqued my interest after having seen the review. But I'm also allocating funds for a new handgun, so may have to watch for the giveaway video!!!
  21. As Steve Shannon mentioned, yes, but at an additional $35. In what way is your call sign ridiculous to where you'd want a change? I can't see that with the sequential assignment system. Maybe in the Amateur world where you get a tongue twister or very bad on cw maybe...
  22. Pull out your pen and say "Open Channel D."
  23. It absolutely is. The FCC will not issue a waiver to regain an old GMRS callsign. Ran into this when I for got to renew a few years back. Tried the waiver application on the website, got nowhere. Called CORES and a quick chat with very helpful person there got me steered into a new license. "You're not attached to that call like your amateur one, are you?"
  24. Call FCC on the phone, they are pretty good to work with. Best to just apply for a new license, you will not be able to get the old call sign issued to you. (been there done that when I forgot to renew mine a few years back!)
