numnutz6383 reacted to WRUU653 in Wouxun KG-935 Plus frequency limits
@numnutz6383, Okay I gave this a shot in Chirp. I changed the frequency limit to 485.000 on UHF RX, uploaded to the radio and I can now set the radio with a RX of 484.4000. Of course this is RX only. Give it a shot and see if you pick up the station.

numnutz6383 got a reaction from WRUU653 in Wouxun KG-935 Plus frequency limits
For those who may be interested, I did extend the receiving frequency of the 935 using CHIRP, and it worked. No issues and I've picked up transmissions on the previously unavailable frequency.

How do you set it to “no transmit”? Or is it just low transmit power?

All the extra power will really do is shorten your battery life. Your range will not be significantly greater. If you’re buried in vegetation it might help.

Negative, haven't had a chance yet. I emailed buytwowayradios.com to get their opinion and received the following reply:
"It's hard to say conclusively as that is very close to the factory limit. It's unlikely that the radio will be damaged merely by receiving a transmission. More often than not transmitting on bands the radio is not built for will either just not work, or work badly and damage the unit. I do want you to be aware though that using the radio on bands it's not rated for will void the warranty."
Which is essentially what the replies I received here are.

numnutz6383 reacted to BoxCar in Question about antennas and setting up new radios
My experience with longer antennas on hand-helds is you may hear better but it doesn't translate to transmitting further.

I knew what you meant, I was just trying to be funny. I love typos.

Not sure what "reusable range" is but in my short experience, the longer antennas only perform marginally better but are quite unwieldly so I personally prefer the shorter antennas. As far as tuning, if the antennas are GMRS antennas, they should be tuned properly. If they are U/V antennas, they will likely be tuned close enough but not perfect.
For range, height is might. After that, a little more power can be handy trying to punch the signal through a bunch of trees.
