Should be analog and fusion capable. Can't remember exactly, been a while since I programmed. But if I remember correctly, fusion doesn't use tones. So if a fusion/wirex repeater has a tone it is usually fm analog capable. Then you just program fm normally, frequency, offset and tones, basically ignore that is says anything about fusion. If you have a fusion capable radio, then just make sure your wirex ID (fusion id) is programmed into the radio and turn ams on. I usually set mine to fm wide with the red bar. Make sure the repeater is programmed with the fm setting. Then if it hears fm it stays analog. If it hears fusion it flips to fusion. Bit more complicated to start a fusion transmission. Since you manually flip it into fusion mode. I love fusion wide (sounds most natural) I think fusion narrow sounds more like p25 and it's meh. Roland will be greatly missed. He was a big signature in the D.C. metro area as well as up and down the mid-atlantic, PA, NJ/NY and WVa. Don't trust the coverage map. They can be set by the repeater post owners. Often are a guesstimate, with little to no verification. Couple that with a 50w base station vs a 5w ht then its acrual coverage can/may/usually will be different. Sent from my SM-S901U using Tapatalk

Are you sure it's a repeater output? The repeater outputs are the simplex frequencies. If in fact it is a repeater output. I would tone scan to see what it is. You may have found an unpublished repeater in your area. Or simply found a repeater you can not key up due to distances. I frequently here the Towson repeater at my home. Oh, good to know. I was told the Apxnext was programmed via the ONLY the cloud. I will have to expand this conversation with him to get better clarification. If need so the group has people from Fema, local fd techops and some other 3 letter agencies so I can get clarification. I mean once you know someone in the govt whom woks with radios. So you get the opportunity to pay "M" to program with something they may decide later they no longer care to keep the servers up on. Yeah, yeah, they plan on allowing local programming, so they said 2 years ago. As far as piracy. I worked for a software company for a long time. I hate piracy. With a cavet, if the firm obsoleted a piece of software with no extended support options. I am ok with people using it, at their own risk. Revenue generation was no longer an option for that firm. Another thing with a quality mag mount, recommend nmo style, additional connector. You change your ht to a psedu mobile. Just don't expect miracles? Your dealing with less than 10 watts. For me at least, most ht antennas are a waste of money. This includes tactical gigantic antennas like the abree 48" folding one. Even on my ham/lmr hts, small exceptions. Are trying to do ht to ht? Most handheld radios with antennas utilize a sma connector. So your radio will have an sma male or sma female connector and the antenna will have the opposite gender. You can look online for photos. The one with the hole is the female [emoji14] You can go one step further and get the proper connector to something like a bnc connector. Why? Sma connector the threads and pins can get damaged fairly easily. So if your disconnecting and connecting a lot, a connector with a bnc will be useful to not damage the radio or antenna. As far as yagis. Yes, they are directional. They usually have about 20° cone (about 3-5 elements) for for direction. The higher the gain, the narrower the cone gets. Gmrs, UHF and SHF are very line of sight. So if you want distance you need to get above obstructions. Ie, buildings, trees, terrain. Sorry for being long winded. EDIT: just checked, according to Mikor that radio has a female sma connector on the radio. So something like a male sma to so259 connector should work to connector to most antennas. Pl259 is the male connector on most coax and so239 is the female counterpart. Please check the coax to verify connector if pre-installed. We use to walk under transmission line, when I was younger. We would go at night with the old shop fluorescent bulbs. It was very cool how the lights would light up. It is not the arcing so much. It's more of the large electrical discharge of a near by strike 1-2 miles away can generate large voltage spikes, almost as bad for electronics with out the same visual effect as a direct strike. Sent from my SM-S901U using Tapatalk

Shouldn't be an issue, as long as the transformers are not having issues. They should be well outside of near fields with the distance of each other. Just make sure tower can not intersect the lines in the event of a failure with a fall over. Don't forget to calculate the height with the antenna. One caveat pay attention to equipment grounding. Electrical hv transmission towers are like lightning magnets. This can attract near field (under a mile or so) strikes. Doesn't have to be a direct hit to damage to your equipment. Adding a ground plane kit should not make a significant improvement. The matching coil is going to be close to the hood. Unfortunately, that is generally were a good amount of the radio signals will be comming from. Plus you are going to have about 1/4 to 1/3 of the antenna not shielded by the windshield. It will work, just not as well as if it was on the roof of a car/truck. With mine on the hood mount of the landcruiser I saw swr north of 2.2 in the gmrs frequencies. One thing to keep in mind when off roading. It is a stiff antenna with a high wind load. Even with the optional spring it doesn't like taking whacks. There a metric crap ton of allen grub screws. They all work decently. Even the Rtlsdr off of Amazon, usually to $20-40. It is usually what I buy for friends (usually with a minimum with rabbit ears. Then tell them to look at the different consoles (software) to find what they like. Each console has a different feel and some are way more technical. Don't get caught up in to many of the recommendations. Nor the the technical like lna's, bias tees and long wires off the jump. It has a lot to learn. That is one negative of using base radios. How long power will last without electricity If you are using baofengs. Buy the battery pack that's let you drop in aa batteries. Have a fresh pack of aa batteries with the aa battery holder. I nice to have is also battery eliminator. At worst if you have gas in the car you can hook that up while the car is running.
