  1. I use that repeater when I go off-roading in that area - I was on it/using it on Saturday when I was in Joshua Tree.. It sounds like you have the settings right - not sure why you aren't connecting.. When you figure it out and get on the repeater tell Salton Sea Randy (he's the OTHER Randy) that NotARubicon said hello..
  2. That's a H.A.M. radio, not a GMRS radio, so now you're going to have to do everything manually.. Find a channel, enter the transmit frequency and the offset, and the tones.. I'm sure someone will chime in with all the details, but, I'm out.
  3. If i have learned anything from this forum it is that "some people" care! They care very, VERY much.. Its sad, but it is true.
  4. make sure your radio is in GMRS mode (it is by default), then make sure you are on Repeater Channel 19/Repeater 5 (i dont remember how it is listed on the H3, you may have to refer to the user manual). When you are on the correct repeater channel you do not need to worry about the offset. Whilst on the correct channel, go in to the menus and enter your D072 tone (it won't show N, just find the 072), save it, and you're done. After you have done all that, if it still does not work come back and give us more detail about "cannot seem to transmit" - such as how are you determining that it is not transmitting, and the steps you took up to that point - and please tell us what a "CV" is.
  5. To simply even further: You create a new custom channel with the correct tones. There are only a very few radios that do not allow this. If you tell us what brand and model of radio we can give you more specifics.
  6. 1) Make sure the volume is up 2) Turn down the squelch 3) Disable any Receive(RX) CTCSS/DTC/DPL tones or codes If, after all that, you still dont hear anything, send it back and tell them to send you one that works.
  7. Today i was in an area known as Eagle Mountain near Joshua Tree and heard a lady calling out to her dog, over the radio, who was helping them find the radio that they had lost in the desert.. apparently the dog could hear her calling him over the radio and led them to it, but it took about an hour.. and we got to listen to the entire show.
  8. Just for more infos: I live in an all Mac household and avoided doing this for years because I didnt want all the hassle. I was finally forced into trying it and installing/setting up Parallels was VERY easy - virtually automatic, and it works great. The worst part is paying for it but it really is worth it for running the manufacturers Windows-only programs.
  9. What did I miss??!! I refuse to disregard until i know!
  10. I dunno.. Never seen/heard that error before. i would try a factory reset. if that doesn't fix it, unless someone else has any better ideas, you might have to call the Radiooddity man.
  11. Yes, ASAP!!!1 Because if you ever accidentally transmit on one of those channels with that radio you will get a $10,000 fine. Its your choice, but are you willing to take that risk? SOURCE: "some people" on this forum
  12. Ya think?! Are you certain that you are selecting the correct radio-model before trying to read from it?
  13. OK THANK YOU I AM SURE I WILL HAVE FUN ON THIS FORUM THANK YOU1
  14. Post your data here, and i am sure someone will be happy to come along and help.
  15. There are literally only two possibilities: A: You have the only KG-1000G Plus ever, in the history of Wouxun to somehow, inexplicably do this thing that no other Wouxun and probably no other radio from any brand, has ever done in the past OR 3: You are very, very confused, and, you are doing it wrong. At this point i would suggest doing a full factory-reset to undo whatever atrocities you have inflicted upon that radio, find a different repeater, and start over.
  16. It sounds like you are connecting to a repeater. If not, then, you're doing it wrong.
  17. maybe if we knew what the problem was, or if you left any hint about what you are having trouble with, someone would actually be able to help.. But, I guess we'll never know..
  18. Don't be mean, and if you are insinuating that the ghost antenna functions as an antenna the same as a dummy-load, you would be very, very wrong.
  19. Bigger and higher/above any (metal) obstructions will always be optimal... But unless you are trying to bounce your signal off the moon - ie; you are just talking with your friends on the road and/or using repeaters within 5, 10, 20 miles or so, I would question whether swapping out the antenna and having to fold it up/down all the time would be worth the money or the hassle. TL;dr: If you are some kind of radio dork that obsessively requires every tiny maximum bit of performance, whether or not you'll ever notice, and at any expense, then get the bigger antenna. If however you are a normal person that just needs to talk with your group while traveling, then your Ghost antenna is just fine.
  20. NO! i = INVERTED, N = NORMAL By default, unless otherwise specified, a DCS/DTC/DPL tone is always NORMAL (N) .
  21. Ahh yes.. Now I remember. I had a couple of H8s but gave them away. So then, to set up your repeater, whilst in GMRS mode, choose the correct Repeater Channel, which I believe for 462.600 will be Channel #25, go into the menus and find the TX/Transmit Tone option (you may have to resort to the user-manual), and select your DPL116 from the list - (it might be listed as DTC), save it, and you're done! You can (and should) ignore the OUTPUT (aka RX) tone for now, as that is only for confusing the n00bs..
  22. The H8 is a H.A.M. radio - will that thing even transmit on GMRS frequencies?
  23. yes, i have an idea: You're doing it wrong. Are you on the correct repeater-channel, and did you add the necessary tone to access that specific repeater? (my guess is two no's..)
