  1. are there any other radios nearby? Is it a 'screech' or is it a tone of some kind, like an error tone/noise/sound? Either way, doing a full reset should unscrew whatever you did if it comes to that..
  2. GMRS is primarily Wideband except for channels 8-14.
  3. I stuck your comment into the AI version of me and this is what i said:
  4. As you can see my assistant @Sshannon answered for me, and correctly - and yes, I have had a lot of people ask me.. And there is no need for an entire forum dedicated to my greatness when there already IS an AI version of me here: https://chat.openai.com/g/g-lltaQJ8ro-learn-gmrs-with-the-notarubicon Although to use it you have to have access to GPT+/ChatGPT4.
  5. Ranchino is DCS23 IN, and optionally OUT and is on 600. The range on Ranchino is fairly limited and it has several holes in coverage due to hills/mountains - Delta was in a much better location and could be reached from a much wider area, so it is possible you are out of range of Ranchino. Where are you located?
  6. Walmart could, but, every person using a radio would need their own, personal GMRS license. EDIT: Unless the business has an old, grandfathered GMRS license as @Sshannon correctly pointed out.
  7. No no no.. You've got it all wrong! Its just that "some people" know everything and love to show everyone how smart they think they are.
  8. You didnt let us know what kind of radio it is, but just like @WRXP381 said, if its a GMRS radio, it is working exactly as designed and doing exactly what the user-manual says it will do.
  9. I'm pretty sure I answered that question in my previous reply. You should read it.
  10. You have two choices: 1) Use a different repeater that uses the standard GMRS +5 offset C) Become a felon and buy a ham or LMR radio, which is what 100% of the people using that repeater are using.
  11. A beep is all you're going to get. I blame the poor Chinglish translation in the manual..
  12. I didnt catch the offset in your first post. Bad news: You are not going to be able to use a non-standard off-set on a GMRS radio. It will never work.
  13. I'm just lookin out for ya buddy.. "Some People" here are REAL sticklers for following ettiequte and every.. single... little... minuscule rule right down to the tiniest little detail, and they go full R-word when anyone deviates even the tiniest bit - it can get pretty ugly. Don't believe me? Create a new topic and ask how often you should use your Roger Beep when on a repeater...
  14. No, because we are all talking about something else that has nothing to do with that and veering off-topic would be rude and insulting to the person that started this topic.
  15. Just had someone testing my repeater with his Baofeng and stock antenna and he was hitting it from 45 miles away. But that was with decent line of sight, your fars will vary.
  16. You could be doing any one of a bazillion things wrong, but I would start by removing the recive tone to see if that helps..
  17. Your Baofeng and the hypothetical baofeng standing next to the repeater have 6 inch antennas, low quality components, and output only a couple of watts.. The repeater has (probably) a perfectly tuned 10-foot or larger antenna, (probably) very high-end expensive and very sensitive components, and is outputting (probably) upwards of 50 watts.. So not only can the repeater hear everything much better than your $19 Baofeng, but it can squirt it's RF electricities many more fars as well.
  18. When you do it on the keypad, are you saving it as a channel?
  19. Welcome to the exciting and dynamic world of GMRS radio! Nobody on the repeater is going to be bothered by you making sexy-talk with your wife from your handhelds, but you will likely be bothered by them, so you may want to avoid Ch16 just so they dont upset you. As for books, there are probably a lot, but you can probably learn everything you know by just reading through the old topics here.. and of course, by watching the Youtubes.
  20. I haven't played with the XPRs but I have played with several of their predecessors, the XTLs.. So, my (semi) educated guess is that IF they are the UHF versions and IF you can get the software for them, then yes, they will work. But I will yield to whatever anyone that has more experience with the XPRs than I do has to say. I dont understand your question about linking the radios with a cable, because, why would you want to do that? Unless what you are asking is "can these radios be used AS a repeater".. If so, please deconfuckulate us.
  21. Go in and look at your settings in the software and see if it shows anything for the password and try to change/remove it... If you dont see anything, try 00000 .. if that doesn't work, contact the seller as they have a way to reset it (then let us know what that way is).
  22. not really.. you have to push all the power before the duplexer, and cheaper/smaller duplexers eat a huge %% of the power. So you will either need to push more power into the duplexer (if it can handle it), or get a better duplexer that doesnt eat so many RF electricities. HOWEVER - the difference between ~20 watts and 50 watts is probably not going to be noticeable.. I have tested my base setup at 40 watts vs 110 watts, and people at the outskirts of my range (around 60 miles) can't even hear a difference between 40 and 110W ..
