I paid $500 for a used VXR-7000 in excellent/confirmed working condition.. I then had to buy a programming cable and acquire the software, buy an antenna and coax, mast, etc, and I had to pay to have the duplexer tuned.. it all came up to around $800'ish dollars of monies.

Considering that the risk is about 99.99999999999999999999999999999999998% in everyone's favor of NOT "getting caught", you'd have to be an idiot to not take that risk. and it is likely that very few "normal" people would even consider those odds a "risk" at all..

Neither.. On a GMRS radio, Channel 28 already has the correct values. So just go to channel 28, enter the TRANSMIT CTC/DTC/DPL tone for the repeater (don't worry about the RECIEVE tone because you're already confused and it is not necessary).. save your changes, and you're done.

I would respectfully disagree with my colleague from Montana on #4 - I would take elevation/antenna-hight above ground over power any day. UNLESS he meant electrical power to run the thing? In that case, yah, he right.

Looking for a really decent GMRS handheld any advice?
OffRoaderX replied to SierraCharlie's topic in General Discussion
Unless you tell us what, exactly you mean by "decent" you're just going to get opinions and people confirming to themselves that they bought the most "decent" radio for them.. But be aware that ALL GMRS radios will require you to spend at least 10 minutes reading the user-manual to learn how to use them... I have owned/used virtually every GMRS brand/model radio on the market and there is no one brand/model that is any easier to figure out than any other.. But honestly, if you can't figure out how to use a Talkpod, then you're going to struggle with anything. Did the clock on your VCR always flash "12:00" ? -
THIS IS NOT TRUE!!!!1 STOP LYING!!! if you use an illegal radio the FCC will triangulate your position and WILL issue a $10,000 fine or you could face prison! Its your choice to take the risk! ...i have literally seen "licensed ham-radio operators" tell people this online, so it MUST be true.. because they have a license!

If you are looking to chat with anonymous men over wide-areas/long-range, then GMRS is not the right choice.. Unless you work for the government, I am not aware of any "government networks" you can use/access (anyone please correct me if i am wrong), so H.A.M. repeater networks/HF, or the Grindr app are probably better choices.

You guys are funny. -
Yes. The default is Normal.

many SWR meters (for example, the SW-102) won't register anything under 1 or 2 watts.. are you sure you are SECURELY connecting it, and does it have the same fars as your other radios?

GMRS Transitioning to Hobbyist-Type Service?
OffRoaderX replied to intermod's topic in General Discussion
Still waiting to find out what your source is for these "stacks of complaints" or what, exactly the FCCs actions of "waking up" to it are, and what that source is. Because otherwise, you're just telling fairy tales whilst everyone laughs ... -
Why really some folks say GMRS repeater linking is illegal
OffRoaderX replied to jwilkers's topic in FCC Rules Discussion
That is a very incorrect interpretation of the interview and what happened. You should watch again, but try to pay attention this time. -
New to the GMRS world. Looking for solid training
OffRoaderX replied to WSDB779's question in Technical Discussion
I've heard that there are good resources on Youtube, but that is probably just an internet rumor. -
This is why it is very important to always wear clean panties when transmitting!

Does the Raspberry Pi 4 work well with the ASL image?
OffRoaderX replied to wrjf803's question in Technical Discussion
Oh, sorry, but some of the "experts" here have determined, and keep reminding us, that linking of GMRS repeaters is illegal, so we are no longer permitted to speak of GMRSLIVE on this website. -
Not to disagree with my esteemed colleague Mr. @nokones, but, i disagree.. I have led groups of up to hundreds (HUNDREDS) of Jeeps/trucks off-road, and a large majority of them use cheap/narrowband FRS radios, while many of us transmit on wideband at high power (because we can).. and never once has anyone complained about having trouble hearing/understanding what we are saying - and in tests I have done, it is usually rare for normal people (with untrained ears) to notice or hear any difference.

FCC, Spam calls and bogus caller id

Does the Raspberry Pi 4 work well with the ASL image?
OffRoaderX replied to wrjf803's question in Technical Discussion
No silly! Everyone knows that an ASL image is a picture of yourself that you send to anonymous men to indicate your AGE, SEX, and LOCATION! You probably know it better as a "QSL card" .. -
After getting license, what should I do? -- Start talking with your friends Can I buy GMRS trancsiever? -- You always could, anyone can. Please let me know how to use my call sign?-- Press the talk button, say your callsign in plain, normal-person english, then start talking Should I say my GMRS callsign when I talk by transceiver like radio amateur? -- Give your callsign at the beginning of your transmissions or at least once every 15 minutes Please let me know the process after getting license. -- The process is: start talking to your friends on your radio

FRS radio recomendations for my non GMRS friends
OffRoaderX replied to TrikeRadio's question in Technical Discussion
If you care about following the FCCs rules, then your unlicensed friends would still need a license to use your GMRS Pro radios. But since the FCCs doesn't care, neither do most people. -
I fellow who coined "FARS" has put down his Kenword radio.
