  1. Yes, always. If it is not +5, then it is not, by definition, "GMRS". But I get what you're saying.
  2. ALWAYS.. GMRS always uses +5 for repeaters.
  3. My guess (100% GUESS) is that the duplexer is tuned better for Ch7.. I would not expect that much of a difference just one channel away but you should do some range-tests on all the different channels to see which one works best.

    GRMS Needed?

In a truly remote area (like the kind of places I go every weekend) there will not be any difference between a $18 Baofeng and a $300 50-Watt GMRS radio because neither will do any good.
  5. For those that may have missed it, and because someone was asking for more threads about it: How it started: How its going: How It's Going A Few Months Later:
  6. Poppycock! I for one think that more threads with links to those videos are what society and the world needs! Think of the children!
  7. In normal people language CPS is the computer software for programming the radio.
  8. Yes, they will notify you via email, but many people (such as myself) never see the email. it usually takes 2-5 business days and you can check the status by logging into the system with your FRN and stumbling your way to the "my licenses" (i don't recall the exact wording, but you'll see it) link.
  9. I approve this message.
  10. Indeed, the math does not add up.. Follow-up with the club-president coming soon.
  11. I haven't whipped-out my KG-1000G software in a a long time, but IIRC, you cannot program the buttons via the software, only directly on the radio.. But, if i'm wrong I will defer to anyone correctly stating otherwise.
  12. The NotARubicon Institute Research Staff is digging deeper and there IS something to this story - and the results may shock you... Stay tooned for the upcoming video.
  13. ..nevermind...
  14. You have succeeded.
  15. Are you hearing the static-tail when you let go of the button?
  16. I am going on the assumption that you mean GM-30, and because the GM-30 is a "GMRS" radio, you don't need to worry about the offset. You just find the correct repeater channel based on the frequency (probably CH25?), then add the transmit tone - don't worry about the receive tone for now because that is just more things to do wrong and confuckulate yourself with. You know if you are connected by pressing the push to talk button and calling out and asking if anyone can hear you. If someone answers "YES", or, if after you let go of the PTT button you hear a short blip of static (known as the tail or 'kerchunk') then you did it right.
  17. As per the User-Manual in pretty much 100% of radios that have a Call button, the Call button is to send an annoying noise out to all other radios configured in the same 'call-group', so they know you're about to start talking to them.. Think of those old Nextel radio-phones. It is about as useful as the 'Alarm' button on many radios.
  18. I would try a bigger/better/higher antenna before forking out more $$ for more watts.
  19. Sounds like i need to be chatting with the boys on Mesa West about Boofwhang radios and the weather more often!
  20. Yahhh.. But.. When you have a blow-torch like Mesa West that high on the mountain, it can still garble/cause interference for the other repeater if both are in use at the exact same time. We ran into the exact same trouble on .700 when our "Delta" repeater was up, and it wasnt in as good of a location.. But rumor has it that it might have had more power ...
  21. Probably depends on what you are using to scan with, but, I guess we'll never know.
  22. It is very difficult to tell from your horribly poor quality video, nor did you bother to mention it, but is that the new BTech repeater? If so, have you contacted BTech Support to see what they say about it? They have been very responsive when i had trouble with my BTech repeater.
  23. The repeater is on Santiago Peak, overlooking the slums below.. and the "owner" on 700 seems to be very confused, as 700 is not "his" frequency.
  24. When plugged-in for programming mine says CLN.. But after programming i always have to re-set the Repeater/base button to light up "Repeater".
  25. have you checked that the Repeater/Base button is set for "Repeater"?
