  1. I believe I did.. But the TLDR; is: this radio with the stock antenna has the exact same fars as every other GMRS radio, and although switching to a battery might help, it is doubtful it will help enough that you will actually notice any difference.. It is also almost a certainty that you will notice virtually 0 difference between 4 or 5 watts and 8 watts. Now stop trying to over-think it and go play with your radio.
  2. Stock antenna worked fine on mine.. But, i'm not trying to bounce signals off the moon or anything.
  3. EDIT: never mind.. I don't even know why I bother.
  4. Depends on the Baofeng radio. If it is a Baofeng HAM radio, then the FCCs says it cannot be used on GMRS. If it is a Baofeng GMRS radio then IF you have a GMRS license, the FCCs says you can use it on GMRS. The question you should be asking is, does anyone, including the FCCs, care?
  5. Yes.
  6. I use it for staying in contact with my group when off-roading. Your use-cases sound more like H.A.M. radio, not GMRS.
  7. My honest feedback is the GMRS is not a "hobby".
  8. It's so you only hear the repeater and not everyone else chattering on the shared simplex channel or other repeaters on the same channel. it is 100% optional.
  9. Zero H.A.M.s have been bashed in this thread, only SAD-H.A.M.s.. If you can't tell the difference then you likely need to be bashed as well.
  10. As mentioned, GMRS is not for finding anonymous men to chat with. You should try H.A.M. or the Grindr app for that.
  11. I have often wondered the same so I am curious to read all of the conflicting legal opinions from our in-house legal scholars and constitutional experts.... following...
  12. For the price they are "reliable enough" for most people, but IIRC, the screen is not very great when in sunlight. Overall nothing "wrong" with them, and bang-for-buck they are fine.
  13. What? Why? WHY do you feel it necessary to record/remember/care about someone's call sign?
  14. Just another Tuesday at the MyGMRS forums..
  15. Something is very wrong. Those radios, right out of the box should be loud and clear at up to at least 1/2 mile or more, assuming no mountains/hills between the cars. I would try more testing outside to rule out a problem with the radios or something in one/both of the cars causing the problem.
  16. I would first locate exact what/where "in the cab" the squeal is coming from, and go from there.
  17. DORKS.. The politically correct term is radio-DORKS... "Radio geeks" is offensive and hurtful to geeks.
  18. Geezus.. You should go outside.. and leave the radio in the basement.
  19. No.. Try this: Do a full reset. Reprogram the radio BY HAND, do not load anything via software if it does it again call BTWR and tell them to send you one that is not defective
  20. This is how I do it: "Stink-Finger to Hoochi Momma, do you copy? .... KMG365, clear"
  21. There is no "add a hum to the audio when tones are enabled" setting that you can turn on or off.. My guess is an aging capacitor is causing the hum.
  22. FarsoMeter 2000 - measures in both imperial and metric and it is so accurate and precise that you need a license just to use it.. It is coveted by H.A.M. radio operators around the world.
  23. What?! Of course it does! How else will we determine who thinks they are the smartest?!
