  1. That is the LA-Echo-1 repeater. The repeater has a huge footprint but the owners have been accused of questionable activities - and because of the clientele it is not the best choice for making new friends or use in an emergency.
  2. Thank you for giving us your call-sign.
  3. Just get the Grindr app for your phone - its much easier to find anonymous men to "communicate" with.
  4. Not sure who you mean. I'm just a guy that's too dumb to get a H.A.M. license so I just hang around here and try to shill cheap Chinese radios.
  5. Unless you think the repeater might be closed/permission-only, then just start using it. Worst case scenario is the repeater owner will come on and ask you to stop using it, but if all the info is listed publicly then it is probably "open" for anyone to use.. As far as your settings, that all depends on what model of radio you are using... Soooo ? But if it is a "GMRS" radio, just figure out which repeater channel to use based on the listed frequency for the repeater, then go to that channel and then into to menu setting and add/save the Transmit CTCSS or DCS/DTC tone and you're done, no need for guessing what settings to use in CHIRP.. HOWEVER - if you are using a H.A.M. radio, then... you should have bought a GMRS radio.. And in that case, good luck because you will need it.
  6. Sometimes they get big-heads and go rouge.. I had that same issue.. You know what they say: Absolute power absolutely can be a problem..
  7. Having owned/run a forum larger than this one, this makes zero sense to me. But, it's his ball, his rules.
  8. Dude.. that IS hot!
  9. I believe I did.. But the TLDR; is: this radio with the stock antenna has the exact same fars as every other GMRS radio, and although switching to a battery might help, it is doubtful it will help enough that you will actually notice any difference.. It is also almost a certainty that you will notice virtually 0 difference between 4 or 5 watts and 8 watts. Now stop trying to over-think it and go play with your radio.
  10. Stock antenna worked fine on mine.. But, i'm not trying to bounce signals off the moon or anything.
  11. EDIT: never mind.. I don't even know why I bother.
  12. Depends on the Baofeng radio. If it is a Baofeng HAM radio, then the FCCs says it cannot be used on GMRS. If it is a Baofeng GMRS radio then IF you have a GMRS license, the FCCs says you can use it on GMRS. The question you should be asking is, does anyone, including the FCCs, care?
  13. Yes.
  14. I use it for staying in contact with my group when off-roading. Your use-cases sound more like H.A.M. radio, not GMRS.
  15. My honest feedback is the GMRS is not a "hobby".
  16. It's so you only hear the repeater and not everyone else chattering on the shared simplex channel or other repeaters on the same channel. it is 100% optional.
  17. Zero H.A.M.s have been bashed in this thread, only SAD-H.A.M.s.. If you can't tell the difference then you likely need to be bashed as well.
  18. As mentioned, GMRS is not for finding anonymous men to chat with. You should try H.A.M. or the Grindr app for that.
  19. I have often wondered the same so I am curious to read all of the conflicting legal opinions from our in-house legal scholars and constitutional experts.... following...
  20. For the price they are "reliable enough" for most people, but IIRC, the screen is not very great when in sunlight. Overall nothing "wrong" with them, and bang-for-buck they are fine.
  21. What? Why? WHY do you feel it necessary to record/remember/care about someone's call sign?
  22. Just another Tuesday at the MyGMRS forums..
  23. Something is very wrong. Those radios, right out of the box should be loud and clear at up to at least 1/2 mile or more, assuming no mountains/hills between the cars. I would try more testing outside to rule out a problem with the radios or something in one/both of the cars causing the problem.
  24. I would first locate exact what/where "in the cab" the squeal is coming from, and go from there.
