I turned my radio off a week ago and it will probably stay off, except for when I need comms when off-roading.
-
Its not.. i've caught 2 people jamming our local repeater in the last few month.. Turned out that both were supposed 'friends' ... It seems that radios just attract a certain kind of assholery.
-
For the power, are you measuring the power directly out of the radio, or out of the duplexer? For the low-volume radio, are you certain that the radio programmed to the rep15 channel is transmitting in WIDEband, and that both your KG-1000s are also set at WIDEband?
-
Did they explain how the radios hack into and connect to a WiFi with a password? PS - I am not only a Navy Pilot, but also an Army General, so you should listen to what I say.
-
I just did what the words on the direction-sheet said to do - dont over think it.

I have a 1486 that I have used with my KG1000G, my XTL5000, my repeater made of two KG1000Gs and my VXR7000 repeater. it works very well - on simplex i'm getting 40+ miles with it. Per the instructions I cut all 3 elements, and IIRC, the SWR was about 1.01:1 . Ignore anyone that tells you to not follow the manufacture's instructions how how/what to cut.
-
...just please.. for the love of Xenu, do not do it in the middle of a conversation - wait for them to finish.

In all seriousness the company itself says it is pronounced: woo-shun - like Ocean, but with woo (ryhms with so) in front of it.

Not all repeater owners listen to their repeater 24/7. I rarely listen to mine.
-
The refrigerator.. They always jump under the refrigerator...
-
There is no protocol in GMRS, but most people consider a repeater that uses the travel tone to be 'open' .. If it was ME, i would start using it until someone complains. The worst thing that will happen is someone complains...
-
Have you tried searching for videos on Youtube for the specific things you dont understand?
-
It depends.. on many factors... BUT: If you will be installing it on your roof, a large fiberglass type "base" antenna like the Tram1486 is probably a better choice as it will perform better and does not require a ground-plane. If you just want to put it in the window, then the MXTA26 is probably a better choice as it is smaller and will fit in the window better than a 5-8Ft long fiberglass type base antenna and you can slap a pie-pan under it for the groundplane.
-
The MXTA26 was my preferred antenna when using my KG-1000G in my Jeep, it is still the preferred antenna on my Jeep now that I use a Motorola XTL5000, and is the preferred antenna that i use with the KG-1000G PLUS that I use as a mini-base in my office.
-
Both Jeeps have Motorola XTL5000 radios, I carry a XTS2500 when running around on foot outside the Jeep, for the couch I use an XTS5000, and as my base-station, an XTL5000.. All for GMRS and encrypted comms..
-
He's now giving approvals to people that request access, but not including the tone/any info.. This will make for a poor user-experience for MyGMRS users.. I hope @rdunajewskior someone can do something about it.
-
"good" is entirely subjective and depends on what "good" means to you, so you're only going to get a bunch of people telling you what THEY have/what THEY think is good for them. So I'll start: In both my Jeeps I have Motorola XTL5000s.. To me they are good, so I i highly recommend one.

I have not noticed that, but I did notice that you just signed up here and that was only your 4th post and you're already being a dickhead.

This is not the case with any of the radios I've dealt with having the audio issue discussed in this thread. FYI: posting the same incorrect information multiple times wont make the information any less wrong.
-
The audio problem is caused by the Automatic Gain Control (AGC) being a bit aggressive. Everyone I know that has this issue is able to improve it by not holding the mic so close to their mouth and holding it at a slight angle from their mouth (instead of directly in front of their mouth) so they aren't "popping" their Ps and Ts.

This new listing: https://mygmrs.com/repeater/6937 is not owned by @WRWI949 and should be removed. It is a copy of-> https://mygmrs.com/repeater/5340 owned by me/my group. Posting here in hopes that @rdunajewski sees it - If there is another/better way to report a repeater please let me know.

If the receiving radio has no receive-tone set, it will still hear the transmission. If the receiving radio has a different tone set, or of the receiving radio had a tone set, but the transmitting radio is not sending any tone, then receiving radio would not hear it.
-
Assuming you are hearing this through a repeater: You may not have the right tone or you have it wrong/backwards in your radio (TX instead of RX and visa-versa) You may not be in range of the repeater - just because you can hear it does not mean it can hear you You are hearing a repeater but transmitting on the simplex channel not the "repeater" channel Probably other things i'm not thinking of
