OffRoaderX got a reaction from WSHU230 in GMRS security risk.
Community Note / Readers Added Context:
To identify someone based on their callsign takes 10 seconds and can be done by anyone in the world with access to the internet.
To identify someone based on their license plate number in most states takes a lot of work/knowing the right people/filling out the right forms/paying a lot of monies, IF it is even legal to do so in your state.

OffRoaderX got a reaction from WRTC928 in THE FCC PERMITS LANGUAGES BESIDES ENGLISH?
You thought wrong. The only requirement regarding language is that your callsign be announced in English, and even if there was a requirement that you use only English on repeaters, it wouldn't matter because the FCC does not enforce the rules (ie; they dont care).
Welcome to the exciting and dynamic world of GMRS in the L.A. area!

Can confirm.. the petroleum based brands taste horrible.. But KY does not have much taste at all and it's much easier to wash out of your hair than the petroleum kinds.

I can confirm that it works great for 45 seconds at a time.. Never tested it any longer than that.

I'ma have to agree..
The OP is a great example of "some people" over-thinking what should be very simple and carefree.

OffRoaderX got a reaction from GreggInFL in Midland GXT3000 Repeater Codes/Tones
NO, it means Normal, as opposed to inverted which would be "i" "code" and "tone" are the same thing, but you are probably looking in the CTCSS section.. Check the DTC/DCS section of the chart to find 053 It's on the chart (probably) but if not, you do not need it.. the RECEIVE tone is 100% optional, so forget about it for now. The TX (Transmit) tone is the only one you really need to care about These are very nice, easy to use GMRS radios, although they are limited in what they can do (like most Midland radios), but having actually used them, I can confirm that they are good radios that perform 100% as well as any other GMRS radio. And, just like all GMRS radios they are 100% compatible with all other GMRS radios, FRS radios, and even the Motorola XTL5000 radios in both of my Jeeps and my handheld Motorola XTS5000 radios. Anyone here claiming otherwise has 1) never used or tested one, and 2) is just trying to get attention to make up for the attention that their mother never gave them... Those people should be ignored.
