WRFH675 got a reaction from Sshannon in If I was to install two base stations at the house, could I use the same outdoor antenna for them?
Thank you both for the information

WRFH675 got a reaction from WRUU653 in Is there a way to copy/paste blocks of channels at a time with the KG-Q10G software?
I just gave that beta of Chirp a try and it all worked great! Thanks again!

Perfect! I’ll give this a try tomorrow. Thanks again!

WRFH675 got a reaction from AdmiralCochrane in What does it mean when someone says, "I can hear you just fine on the reverse"?
This is on a GMRS repeater. Let me try and wrap my head around this...
If we're using repeater channel 18 (transmit frequency of 467.6250), then another user would have to be tuned into that same frequency on another radio (with same tones as repeater) and listening to see if the repeater user traffic is coming through on that frequency as well? Which also is not one of the normal 22 GMRS frequencies.

WRFH675 got a reaction from wrtq652 in Is this a good location for these two antennas?
I was using a magnetic mount atop the rear of the roof for a while. But the way the cable was ran, every time I opened/closed the rear hatch, it was rubbing up on it and crimping it. I didn't like that, so I purchased this new mount and cable for the hood.

WRFH675 reacted to OffRoaderX in SWR/Watts reading from RT-97
it's 10W BEFORE the duplexer, which eats a huge %% of the RF electricities.. I think mine only reads 3W or 4W..
There is no way that I know of to adjust it, and if you do, you are likely to kill the duplexer...

WRFH675 reacted to wayoverthere in I'm using a camera tripod to mount my antenna to, any problems with doing that? Also a tuning question. Photo attached
I will second Marc. My initial setup had the comet clamped onto the side post of a wire storage rack, around halfway up. Swr was around 5:1, IIRC. Moved to the tripod and rechecked...1.2:1. Coupling with the rack was making a mess of an otherwise well tuned antenna

That looks great! I'm sure it's going to work a lot better.
When using it (and testing) try to keep the antenna and tripod about 24 to 28 inches away from other objects for best performance.

That looks good. Myself I've used an old speaker stand with a portable mast from MFJ. I found the stand cheap at a local flea market. The mast I had purchased new.

The top section was way too flexible so i removed it. The antenna on the top is a telescoping dual band design type.

Between the two the antenna is up about 20 feet. Using some aluminum tent stakes and nylon rope I can guy it for light to moderate wind gusts.

Thanks everyone for commenting. I tried to remove the parts but couldn't do it, so I took my oscillating tool and chopped the whole thing off. Looks a lot better now, and hopefully it improves everything. I have an SWR meter on the way to test it in the next few days.

WRFH675 got a reaction from WRTY358 in I'm still a newb but a big update for me - I'll have the KG-1000G installed in my Jeep in the next few days!
I purchased the KG-1000G a while back, but never got around to setting it up or installing it. I didn't feel comfortable running the wires and whatnot. So I found a place that will do it for me in the next few days. And no, it wasn't cheap. But I don't care. This will be my first mobile radio, so I'm excited.
I'm currently using two of the KG-935Gs and I like them a lot. They're able to hit my local repeater about 30 miles away, which is pretty awesome, but I can't reach any other repeaters. Hopefully this new mobile unit will help out.
That's all I have to share. I didn't really have anyone else to share it with. This stuff is super neat to me for some reason, so I spend money on it without any real world use for it and without any people I know IRL that's also into it. I suppose I need to start making friends through the repeater soon.

Here are some photos. The main unit is under the passenger seat with the face unit velcro to the phone charging cubby. I can still slip my phone back there to charge easy enough. The hand mic is the only thing that got screwed in. Although, it’s not the best position since I’ve been bumping it with my knee. Luckily it has a quick to use lock switch on it. The magnetic antenna base is a lot bigger than I thought it would be. A bit of an eyesore but it is what it is.
I went out with it this morning but couldn’t reach anyone on the local repeater. 10 minutes before that I was loud and clear on my HT. So I’m not sure what the problem is with it. The wire is crimped a bit from where the hatch closes in on it, would that be an issue? I wanted to test it out some more but my dogs were going crazy barking so I just headed home after three attempts at reaching someone.

WRFH675 got a reaction from wayoverthere in KG-935G Scan behavior
This happens with my same radio as well, but only when I'm in my office and surrounded by a bunch of computers, screens, and other electrical devices. I figure it's just interference from them. As soon as I leave the office, every thing works perfectly again.

WRFH675 got a reaction from Downs in Is there a reason why the Repeater Map is missing a lot of entries from the Repeater Directory?
Got it, thanks!
