The poster lives in Lynchburg, VA He is trying to get the kids (who knows whos) to get on and have fun using the GMRS comms. Probably posted that here in case there where other families here that live in the vicinity to participate it the ose parents want them to get in on the noise... Just more people like yourselves, that want to talk to other people they have never met in a different medium. You do it all the time, right here. Why can't the little ones get in on the fun too?
-
AND WE users of the GMRS.Com site do the same thing, right here!

What I find FUNNY about you is that even blocking you, doesn't prevent me from seeing your post....

Thanks for the help, got it going!

I scan while mobile, and talk to complete strangers, riding off road with my very expensive Midland MXT400. Just bouncing along hardly ever using call signs on the FRS channels like a bunch of rich kids with no regard for authority. But on the open road, yea we follow the rules as best we can talking to people we "think" we know but haven't met yet!
-
Can I presume that is "There is no reason"? And YES, I understand the reason for signing in, ....
-
I really feel like a dumb ass asking but I can't find anything that directs members here in the procedure of signing in to use the Repeater Map display.

Have not heard a pip outta Hopkins in a long time. I took a trip up I-26 and had the chance to talk a bit to a friend on Nesses 467.625 for a long way (I-95 - Columbia) w/o issue with my MXT400 (MIDLAND). Nice and clear signal too. Just a poke about Midland, it works for me!!!!

Scanning for Active Channels Your MXT115 includes an “auto-scan” mode that continuously scans all 15 available channels for activity. To enter and exit “auto-scan” mode: 1.Be sure the radio is turned on (see Power On/Off). 2.Press and release the Monitor/Scan / button to enter “auto-scan” mode. ▪ The Scanning icon will show on the LCD display when the radio is in “auto-scan” mode. ▪ Your radio will rapidly scan through the 15 available channels and will pause on any active channel. ▪ “Auto-scan” will resume when there has been no activity on the current channel for four seconds. 3. To transmit during “auto scan,” press and hold the PTT button on the microphone while the radio is paused on the desired channel. ▪ The radio will remain on the active channel for three seconds after the PTT button is released. 4. To exit the “auto-scan” mode, press and release the / Monitor/ Scan button. ▪ The Scanning icon will turn off when the radio is no longer in “auto-scan” mode. All from the Operators Manual hope that helps

Think I got ripped off again I'm telling Ya! PAID all this money for a MILDLAND radio and find out now, I don't think I have a 'ROGER BEEP' to show off like the rest of YA! I though it weird that will all that money I paid for this big Clunky, radio I got suck a small instruction manual. Yep, not one mention of a "Roger-Beep" anywhere!

Simply put just converse on the FRS channels and there ar no needs for the Call Sign....

I don’t think Midland radios are very good.

Go with what you like and don't worry about what others think of your choices, yea! I don't like all them other radios, and therefore, I DON'T TALK TO THEM!!!! I sleep with my Midland radio and it keeps me warm at night!!!!! With all the people I can talk to on mine, I'm thinking of renting out like a HOOKER to keep the local (all other radios) want-to-bes happy! Only thing I dislike is having to turn up the volume but I don't mine half the time I guess, not much is really being said anyway unless it's a Jeep Trail ride...hehehe. I talk and nobody even knows what I'm running anyhow. Stick that into your muddy grippers and crawl on-it! -
I was just there (Cashiers, NC) this past weekend and I too heard a bunch of GMRS conversations. I was there to get going on the "GA Treverse" / trail and didn't pay it much mind. The weather was somewhat clear and cool.

I lived in Hawaii in the days of CB's and don't recall any break-ins of this kind on the islands. Being on an island in such a small area I'm happy the criminals didn't think like this. Could a criminal net-work successfully set up a statewide network to perform break-ins but I doubt it would bring them the revenue necessary to live off it. And besides, Many folks talk from base stations anyway limiting the ther travel away from home. In real life, by time someone catches your conversation, you'll be long gone by time you have to give your call sign again. BUT YOU GAVE ME AN IDEA, on a trail ride with many Jeeps... out in the woods all day! That's spooky!

I think is a No - no we don't place that information here.

LIke CB GMRS starts out having to submit to the FCC because they want to ID/control the users per say by keeping the airways limited to proper people that submitted to their standards. I believe it is in the hopes it continues that way as we look back into what CB has become. I believe people that inadvertently purchase these radios (GMRS) will do as likewise, and just talk friends in the beginnings' w/o the licenses, and the whole system will revert to what the CB airways have become. Websites like we have here can only manage so much behavior of the general citizenship.

Why would cartel use GMRS frequencies that could be listened to around the globe? I doubt they want to expose their dealing with outsiders. JMO

I bought 2 from Radio Shack mid 1980 for family to use as we crossed the USA from Hawaii to Charleston

That's a CB tho but still very ole!

Well, well! I have somehow come across to hand held units someone gave me years ago before I even knew what "GMRS" stood for! Just printed a copy of the Owners Manual (1 page) for the for the GMR1838-2CK manuf. by Uniden. The black plastic antenna covers have come off but when charged, they work! Now lets see when they were produced...

Permission for using gmrs call sign by those not in same household
H8SPVMT replied to WSAE510's topic in FCC Rules Discussion
(2) Any individual who holds an individual license may allow his or her immediate family members to operate his or her GMRS station or stations. Immediate family members are the licensee's spouse, children, grandchildren, stepchildren, parents, grandparents, stepparents, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and in-laws. https://www.ecfr.gov/current/title-47/chapter-I/subchapter-D/part-95 Seem pretty clear to me..... their definition of family Not being in the "FAMILY," I don't think I can delegate any behavior to the individual licensee on how to conduct their responsibilities in this matter. Just my two cents worth -
My ole eyes and brain just did not compute this knowledge until, NOW! Thanks to all that asked and to those that answered! I kept seeing the words "Mobile GMRS" and thinking my MXT-400 qualified for that. But then comes along... "467 MHz interstitial channels. Only hand-held portable units may transmit on these 7 channels. The channel center frequencies are: 467.5625, 467.5875, 467.6125, 467.6375, 467.6625, 467.6875, and 467.7125 MHz. So now I realize why I don't have those channels in my radio! We had this exact problem on the trails (Trail Guild wanted to use CH 10.....) now it sinks in after studying this, again Thank you all~!

NOT EVEN A, "PLEASE"! I'm hurt and feel left out.

I'm a ole CB person (whom got a license in the day) but was told to get a GMRS radio or no more comms with my Jeepin buddies... Purchased the Midland MXT 400 (about three yrs ago or, just before the 500 came out) and it is has been a pleasure to operate (easy to understand instructions). Only gripe I have is that there are few Repeaters in my area locally and almost as few people with GMRS. GMRS was designed for a different purpose, I get it. Cell phone takes care of about all the other calls I need to make. When I switch up it will likely be with the MXT 500 or the Wouxun KG1000 so I won't have to increase the volume button.

In regards to simplex use, of the repeater channels. Midland even has a function in the MXT models (I don't know about others) to do a, "Talk Around (Talk) Function" when using the repeater channels when the repeater(s) is not activated or, out of range. The radio will use the same frequencies and codes set for those channels that a repeater would otherwise use. So I think that as long as you're "NOT INTERFERING with a repeater," it is OK to use those frequencies to talk on.
