My radio resides on the dash of the JEEP and there is no necessary reason for it to venture "in a working mode" into my home. We just don't have any repeaters around and those that have GMRS radios in their vehicles don't turn'em on to my knowledge. Workers use the FRS radios and even a friend of mine hardly every uses his except off road... The most I ever used ths one was when I had a friend that traveled with us off road. He got sick and is home bound 70 miles away.. AND THANKS for the list of other radios Nokones. That was a kind gesture.

Investigated this situation somewhat and think they did away with the programing software for my year (sn# 19.........) radio. It apears they have discontinued the MXT400 altogether. May still be possible for the radios after 2021 manufacture. If I find it necessary to increase the memory in the future I'll just purchase a newer model/brand. After 7 yrs., I am just about in need for another Mic and cord also....

I remember reading about that a couple years ago but didn't fully understand the "WHY" in using the program. Having to change information for repeaters on the same frequency might be helpful now that I keep a written list of repeaters for my routine travels. Thanks for the reminder, I'll have to look into that.

I was reading through a Operations Manual for the Midland MXT-400 that I saved on my cell phone. I carry it to ensure that IF I have a question out on a trail, I can usually find the answer in the manual on the phone. I don't get to use it much anymore and have been actually thinking of deleting it from my Files on the phone as I have had my radio since 2019 and feel pretty acclimated when I need to change a function on the radio. On the forum here, I had read that one thing the MXT-400 sufferred from is the ability receiving wide band transmissions well. I found that I just needed to turn the speaker volume up a little and that helped so I have been pretty happy with my rig in the Jeep all this time. And everyone I have communicated with, hears me well. Lo & behold, I looking thru that manual today and see "I CAN Change the bandwith afterall!" How could I have missed that little detail all this long? Had that dang thing for six years and just never knew that! So I get to making a comparison of the operational manuals and "DANG," nothing is different except the ole paper manual does not state anywhere in it that I can change the band width. So I called Midland and got ahold of service rep whom at first agreed that it was possible after all so I gave the rep my serial number and hoped that could help me learn the proceedure for future use. Long story short...... My radio was made before the change in 2021 and I had gotten ahold of a newer operations manual to put on the phone... "Happy Aprils Fool on me! " I'll keep the radio as it really works just fine for my needs, and thought ya'll might want to know that if ya have a MXT-400 made in 2021 or later, you do have that ability to swap from narrow or wide band. Don't let the bastards wear ya down about, "Midland is Crappy stuff."

Thanks for the replies! Thinking over the years I have picked up a bad habit. SO it is, just at the end of the conversation. I like that better!

I take the to mean identification isn't necessary at the beginning of the transmission, just the end, correct?

The poster lives in Lynchburg, VA He is trying to get the kids (who knows whos) to get on and have fun using the GMRS comms. Probably posted that here in case there where other families here that live in the vicinity to participate it the ose parents want them to get in on the noise... Just more people like yourselves, that want to talk to other people they have never met in a different medium. You do it all the time, right here. Why can't the little ones get in on the fun too?
-
AND WE users of the GMRS.Com site do the same thing, right here!

What I find FUNNY about you is that even blocking you, doesn't prevent me from seeing your post....

Thanks for the help, got it going!

I scan while mobile, and talk to complete strangers, riding off road with my very expensive Midland MXT400. Just bouncing along hardly ever using call signs on the FRS channels like a bunch of rich kids with no regard for authority. But on the open road, yea we follow the rules as best we can talking to people we "think" we know but haven't met yet!
-
Can I presume that is "There is no reason"? And YES, I understand the reason for signing in, ....
-
I really feel like a dumb ass asking but I can't find anything that directs members here in the procedure of signing in to use the Repeater Map display.

Have not heard a pip outta Hopkins in a long time. I took a trip up I-26 and had the chance to talk a bit to a friend on Nesses 467.625 for a long way (I-95 - Columbia) w/o issue with my MXT400 (MIDLAND). Nice and clear signal too. Just a poke about Midland, it works for me!!!!

Scanning for Active Channels Your MXT115 includes an “auto-scan” mode that continuously scans all 15 available channels for activity. To enter and exit “auto-scan” mode: 1.Be sure the radio is turned on (see Power On/Off). 2.Press and release the Monitor/Scan / button to enter “auto-scan” mode. ▪ The Scanning icon will show on the LCD display when the radio is in “auto-scan” mode. ▪ Your radio will rapidly scan through the 15 available channels and will pause on any active channel. ▪ “Auto-scan” will resume when there has been no activity on the current channel for four seconds. 3. To transmit during “auto scan,” press and hold the PTT button on the microphone while the radio is paused on the desired channel. ▪ The radio will remain on the active channel for three seconds after the PTT button is released. 4. To exit the “auto-scan” mode, press and release the / Monitor/ Scan button. ▪ The Scanning icon will turn off when the radio is no longer in “auto-scan” mode. All from the Operators Manual hope that helps

Think I got ripped off again I'm telling Ya! PAID all this money for a MILDLAND radio and find out now, I don't think I have a 'ROGER BEEP' to show off like the rest of YA! I though it weird that will all that money I paid for this big Clunky, radio I got suck a small instruction manual. Yep, not one mention of a "Roger-Beep" anywhere!

Simply put just converse on the FRS channels and there ar no needs for the Call Sign....

I don’t think Midland radios are very good.
H8SPVMT replied to SvenMarbles's topic in General Discussion
Go with what you like and don't worry about what others think of your choices, yea! I don't like all them other radios, and therefore, I DON'T TALK TO THEM!!!! I sleep with my Midland radio and it keeps me warm at night!!!!! With all the people I can talk to on mine, I'm thinking of renting out like a HOOKER to keep the local (all other radios) want-to-bes happy! Only thing I dislike is having to turn up the volume but I don't mine half the time I guess, not much is really being said anyway unless it's a Jeep Trail ride...hehehe. I talk and nobody even knows what I'm running anyhow. Stick that into your muddy grippers and crawl on-it! -
I was just there (Cashiers, NC) this past weekend and I too heard a bunch of GMRS conversations. I was there to get going on the "GA Treverse" / trail and didn't pay it much mind. The weather was somewhat clear and cool.

I lived in Hawaii in the days of CB's and don't recall any break-ins of this kind on the islands. Being on an island in such a small area I'm happy the criminals didn't think like this. Could a criminal net-work successfully set up a statewide network to perform break-ins but I doubt it would bring them the revenue necessary to live off it. And besides, Many folks talk from base stations anyway limiting the ther travel away from home. In real life, by time someone catches your conversation, you'll be long gone by time you have to give your call sign again. BUT YOU GAVE ME AN IDEA, on a trail ride with many Jeeps... out in the woods all day! That's spooky!

I think is a No - no we don't place that information here.

LIke CB GMRS starts out having to submit to the FCC because they want to ID/control the users per say by keeping the airways limited to proper people that submitted to their standards. I believe it is in the hopes it continues that way as we look back into what CB has become. I believe people that inadvertently purchase these radios (GMRS) will do as likewise, and just talk friends in the beginnings' w/o the licenses, and the whole system will revert to what the CB airways have become. Websites like we have here can only manage so much behavior of the general citizenship.
