  1. MXT275 is the way to go. Throw the mic in the glove box or center console and no one knows its there.
  2. This was mentioned in the pst by other members. You pay for quality. Thats the biggest thing that leave members leaving GMRS. If you want quality service dont spend $20 on radios
  3. Its really about antenna and line as has already mentioned. Power isn't necessarily the factor. If your only talking to the repeater on a 4 watt HT having a 50 watt repeater wont make it work better. In the LMR world we would "balance" repeaters all the time to get them close. Also as said above. Take a portable and hook it to your antenna system. If it doesn't work a repeater wont help.

This is for Rich I guess. When i logged in it made me change my profile name. I just added a "2" to my current name. Would not allow me to re-use my name. Thoughts ?
  7. Agree. Id be worried how far from center I'd go. I normally tune my flatpack style ones dead center of GMRS band so it can go up or down a channel or 2. Much more it does show issues the further away from center.
  8. Another advantage of 16 channels is you could put different PL DPL combinations in each channel with the same frequency. In GMRS that can be good.
  9. Also remember there is loss thru a duplexer. Cheaper the duplexer the more loss. Depending on how it was tuned I have had them come in the shop with almost 3 db of loss. That's half your power. The only true way to know is to have your duplexer swept and see what the loss is on it. If its got high loss or off frequency that can cause the PA to heat up and drop power. Quick way to test is to drop the radio to low power and see if it does same thing,. As other said you dont want to run any 1225 on high power if you want it to last. I've replaced hundreds of PA's over the years. All my GR1225 run at 25 watts max. My low power units go into TPL amps.
  10. There is no need to drop a headliner if you use the right tool for the job.
  11. I do but all my part 90 gear works on ham, gmrs and public safety. If going after part 90 stuff make sure the band split is correct.
  12. As said I'd try to find the HHCH for the radio. If not there is a company that makes a console face plate for your center console. I just did one in a 2019 Denali for my buddy. Holds 2 radios.
  13. You would have better luck with a 1/4 wave on the mount than that antenna. Inside is litterly a circuit board with a brass strip. Its about as good as a rubber duck.
  14. When in the Jeeps simplex. When around one of my repeaters we use the repeater for range. Its mostly to talk to family or friends, not a chat line. If I wanted to listen to that I'd turn a ham radio on.
  15. Neither. The set screws should pierce the paint and get ground on the hood.
  16. P25 radios with TDMA will only work in trunking applications. They will not work in TDMA mode as simplex or conventional. That is still FDMA.
  17. There is no tuning of that antenna. If you want a better match try a 1/4 wave.
  18. They used to sell a Mini-UHF to SO239 jumper cable. I suggest finding one of them vs an adapter. Used hundreds of them in my shop days for control station installs.
  19. First off the MCS uses MCS software and not CPS R02.03.00. MCS is no longer supported by MSI so web searches may yield something beneficail.
  20. Depending on what the height of the camper is you may be better off with a small fiberglass antenna on the ladder. Thats what I run at camp (on my repeater) and it works really well. For the most part there is no metal in the camper roof. Even where the AM FM antenna is its just plywood with a ground wire on the cable. I run the Laird FG4500 and it works great. I have LMR400 run up the ladder and under the RV to the compartment with the repeater. When installed its actually a bit lower than my vent covers but i still remove depending on where I plan to drive.
  21. Many do not put there repeaters on zello or other networks. This isn't ham radio. If you want to listen on zello there is a search for GMRS.
  22. Shouldn't take long with an HT to figure out where its coming from. Law may or may not understand the issue so may refer you to a vendor to assist.
  23. Do not run the ground the battery. Make sure its on a chassis ground. The antenna you list is a amateur radio antenna. You are getting RF in your amp most likely from the cables. Have you test VSWR on the antenna. You could try some ferrite beads on the AMP input cables.
  24. I have no issues in the JT or JK. I assume this is an aftermarket head unit ? If you know its the radio may not be alot you can do.
