gortex2 got a reaction from WSEA531 in Midland MXT575 programming software?
The MTX575 does not have the ability to program via a PC or clone or any functions such as that. The MTX500 is the only radio you can program via PC from Midland at this time. If you read there is programming software for the unit you read wrong. Midland has stated this also in the questions on their website to others that have asked.
The radio is not marketed to folks who want to add tons of stuff to the radio. Its marketed to the KISS method and they sell thousands of them for that reason. I'm not sure why its so difficult for folks to program. Mine took 15 minutes as did all my MTX275 mobiles to add DPL tones into my repeaters.

I run LMR branded pepper shakers on UHF and 800/700 on my work trucks. I normally remove them monthly and even those at times have a small amount of moisture. I use the rubber washer under mine on my personal vehicles and have rarely seen the issue there. On my work truck I swap so much I normally use the ones built in.

You’re right.  Many of us don’t care.  Other than mild curiosity I don’t buy radios just to listen to other people’s conversations on an internet feed.  Perhaps few of us do, perhaps there’s very little traffic, and perhaps that’s why it’s not high on the priorities of the one person who maintains this site.
But that just conjecture on my part. What I know is that it costs money to maintain features like that.  Vote with your dollars by becoming a premium member. (Thank you @UpperBucks!)

I'm going to be a little harsh here, so bear with me. Send this thing back where you got it and get your money back. It was not intended for GMRS, and it won't work. Before you spend another penny on equipment, ask here first. A simple question like "Will an MMDVM hotspot work with GMRS?" would have been met with a resounding "no", and would have saved you time, aggravation and quite possibly money if you end up stuck with this thing.

The radio is DMR. Your not going ot listen to the San Diego Police or any other public safety on it as they are P25 and the radio is not designed to decode that format. Other than a scanner you will not find a radio to listen in on that stuff.

Youd have more success spening a bit more and buying a real repeater. The RT97 is +/- $350 and already has duplexer and other parts tied in that you will need.

No, haven't. I don't do apps. Apps are for the generation that are too lazy and refuse to contribute to society and buy cheap Chinese crap with those Apps. And someday, I may meet Randy in passing on the trail.

Yeah well no surprise my opinion is unpopular. I just get that amateur radio has a lot of its traditions based on telegraph and while I get that and can even respect it, I don't think I am wrong for not needing it on gmrs. Gmrs isn't amateur radio. We all have amateur radio for amateur radio traditions and customs. I'll keep wishing people would leave the 73s and Q codes off of it. But when have I gotten what I wanted

Business Radio Service (Part 90.35) application is only $205 if you apply for itinerant VHF and/or UHF freqs to avoid the cost of frequency coordination, and these freqs can be Nationwide on one license.

No it is too many amateur radio operators taking gmrs and equating it to being an extra band to play on. I’m honestly tired of hearing QTH and 73 on gmrs. It’s just as easy to say LOCATION as it is to say QTH.
That and the stupid additional callsigns people like to use like the “tac” numbers on certain repeaters in Georgia. I already have a unique identifier it is my fcc given callsign. Won’t be saying my city name and random numbers along with it.
Thanks for reading my stuff that sucks about gmrs rant.

The system @OffRoaderX linked is 4+ hours from Stanton Island. If you look at the map you can see various repeaters in and around NYC but none are linked to my knowledge. Half the time they are filled with beeps, foul language and other voices. To my knowledge there is nothing that will get you to albany. My first option would be to be pick up your cell phone and install Zello if you want PTT access to your friend 3 hours north of you. GMRS is not the fix.

certainly a growing number of idiots willing to take a risk so you can talk to someone from your living room in New York to a friend in Penn.  (hypothetically speaking of course, for you anyway).  Some guys have 25-30 repeaters registered under their lic. Of course, since you and your friend (hypothetically) are talking 100's of miles apart, you have no clue how that is happening..  It's pure FM  -  right???   😅

Hummm… This could be the topic for another thread. GMRS seems to be mutating into a hobbyist type service. It seems the original primary intent by the FCC was a radio service simple enough to be used by ordinary people with basically no background in radio communication technology for their personal use, and immediate family members.

It is just another repeater and can cause headaches with other users. I definately wouldn't recommend this route

Was just in Nashville last week and in Clarksville a couple nights and did not hear any chatter on any repeater frequency. Nashville 575 did pop in once but couldn't get back to it.
