  1. I sent them a really dumb question once and they responded quickly and politely. I'm a fan.
  2. Excuse the mess. We are under construction. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. Is that because it's compact? I have a 771G and it definitely outperform the stock Wouxan but dang, it's unwieldy.
  4. I almost posted this a while back. I think I'm just being crotchety because I don't mind them using FRS, but when they use GMRS, it annoys me. gf66 is probably right, though.
  5. I have a Tram Discone 1410 on top of a 27 foot pole for my scanner. I thought I'd try to run my Tram 1486 beside it on the mounted to the same pole for my GMRS base. They both work, of course, but the GMRS transmissions cause a squeal in the scanner. I'm sure many of you are rolling your eyes. I should have known better. So, now the question is how far do I need to move it away? Would placing it about four or five feet above the scanner help or should I just start an entirely new antenna pole? I'm leaning that way but I kind of thought I was mostly done with my investment at this point.
  6. I usually scan but I don't pick much up. Still, it works fine.
  7. I have to agree. It's been a good experience here.
  8. We motorhome. I've switched to GMRS from FRS recently and do not regret it at all. We started using them for backing in to a site or the storage unit and hiking in case we got separated. Occasionally, one of us will take the dog while the other stays in the motorhome and that's a little peace of mind. When we fish (poorly), we sometimes separate a ways to try different areas. In the last few months, I've built a GMRS base here at home, a Micromobile in the TOAD Jeep and soon in the motorhome. I don't know of any RV groups that exclusively use GMRS but Jeep Jamboree is going that way this year.
  9. I've dipped my toe in the GMRS waters with Midland and Wouxan. I'd like to buy a used Kenwood and try my hand at programming. I'm looking at an 8180 for a base unit at the house. What do I need to know about programming? I've got the whole family using channel 16 with CTCSS 2. Is this something a newbie can do with relative ease? I really appreciate all of the advice I've gotten here so far. Thanks in advance.
  10. https://www.amazon. com/dp/B00478M6QC/?coliid=I2X42AY0VHMYVO&colid=3QNVIS6L5U9JQ&psc=1&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it_im This is the one I bought is listed above. It's a CX-201.
  11. Thanks again for everything. I got the switch in. I bought two LMR 400 jumpers. It's a little weird though. The switch seems a little mushy. When I switch from the scanner to the radio, the scanner still works; just not very well. I'm guessing that's normal. My concern is that the switch isn't working properly and keying up will damage my radio.
  12. Thanks for that. The switch is what I'm interested in. Is this what I'm looking for? https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00478M6QC/?coliid=I2X42AY0VHMYVO&colid=3QNVIS6L5U9JQ&psc=1&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it_im
  13. I put up a 1410 Discone at 27' and ran some good 400 cable for my scanner. For giggles, I bought an adapter and plugged my Wouxun KG805G to it and was really impressed with how well it worked. In case this is as dumb of a question as I'm certain it is: I've done some research but didn't come up with an answer I was confident with trying. Is there a splitter I could use to do both without having to unscrew the plug every time? Will that splitter cause me an unacceptable amount of loss? Thanks in advance.
  14. I'm gonna guess not. I just got one for myself and another for my SIL. Hmm. Well, at least I know the feds will use the money wisely.
