Yeah, outside sources got me thinking of a Kenwood TH-D75. lol
-
I got a huge Tram magnetic NMO mount for it incase my Midland magnetic mount does not hold up as well. Placement is smack dab in the middle roof of my 4Runner.

Love my Midland Ghost Antenna, allows me to fit my truck in the garage. Works really well for GMRS and has some decent range for being so small, also really good in hilly areas. I also have the MXTA26 which is awsome if i need a little more reach. I always have both in my truck depending on needs. I recently purchased a Comet CA-2X4SRNMO for my handhelds with more bands. Haven't tried it out yet.

My 2 Ham models seem to have more consistent power across all bands where the GMRS model when in Normal does not. Not that its a huge difference, but its there. Could also just be inconsistency for a $30 radio.

I got the KG-Q10H. And that's exactly why i got it. Easy to open up and was the only option i could find that did everything the H3 did but better. Just hope the quality holds up.

I have 3 Tidradio H3’s and just added the Wouxun KG10. Love the H3's, so easy to program, easy to use and easy to clone to one another. App was nice too. Paid almost 7x with my Wouxun KG10 and though it seems to be better quality and better options, i still think the H3 holds it own. Plus if really needed to i can open up the frequencies for emergencies on the H3. IMO everyone should own an H3 for $30.

Wish i kept the scanner i had that did 900mhz from back in the day. Came in handy listening to old school wireless phone calls my X was making. My KG Q10H can get 900mhz.

The H3 for GMRS & Ham are effectively the same radio, just comes with different antennas and different initial programing (GMRS-Ham). I have 2 Ham and 1 GMRS and other than a slight power difference they work the same with the current updates.

Tidradio TD-H8 may no longer be worth buying
RIPPER238 replied to SvenMarbles's topic in General Discussion
My H8 tested the same way and all of my H3's have 5-6 watts so the H8 just seemed to be a waist since it was not providing much power. Plus the H8 is missing some features of the H3. Now my H8 is used as my home radio. -
What have you heard, and why did you listen?
RIPPER238 replied to Davichko5650's topic in Family Radio Service (FRS)
Regular GMRS is mostly kids and local drug dealers with an occasional Harbor freight communication. I mostly listen to my local PD on 460.550. Kind of cool knowing what's going on. Recently heard a call for a husband threatening to delete his x wife, and that he was on his way and was taking an Uber. -
Did you plug it in? It can be a bit laggy but it should show com port options.
-
How many reactions did you like before getting that prompt? lol
-
Sounds like he meant to get a simple GMRS radio but mistakenly bought a Ham model. Lucky it could be switched.
-
Yeah, when i used it with the proper full range antenna it worked well inside where i have it mounted surprisingly. But thought it may be better with external and seems about equil. So i guess now it's just so i dont have some big antenna blocking my windshield view. lol
-
I may do one really good antenna for 2 radios. But will only use one radio at a time.
-
Thx. A little too big for a daily. I only have a few inches to spare when parking in my garage. ~Ghost antenna height is ideal, found one too but not well rated. Wish i could just mount the antenna the H3 comes with on a mount.
-
Thx. Yeah, i haven't tried transmitting, just receiving and there is some loss. I can try and test it with my SWR, but i'm sure it will fail on anything not UHF when transmitting. Which there was a super small quality 140-160 MHz/435-465 MHz antenna.

It's hard to find a super small wide range antenna for daily and of course have a much larger appropriate antenna for my MXT as well as a ghost antenna. But wanted a small one for the H3. So i have one of my H3's mounted in my truck and hooked up to the cheep Midland GMRS antenna that comes free with the/my MXT275. I mostly use it with my H3 just to monitor frequencies my Midland can't (LEO/EMS/FD) and was wondering if using this GMRS antenna of this low quality would be an issue for like 154.80000? Seem to pick up fine, of course better on 460 vs 150. H3 MXT GMRS antenna

Nice to find this thread. Im needing another external antenna since im going to try and use my H3 and the Comet SBB5-NMO or Comet 2x4SR which look like good options. It will allow for more versatility than just my Midland MXT275 with MXTA26 6db or ghost antenna. The Midland MXT275 with MXTA26 is a really great simple option for off roading but i'm finding i want to play with some more options. Will probably end up with a Wouxun KG-1000G. My midland set up in my 4Runner. Though not the best by any means its really good for off-roading use.
-
I have a Midland MXT275 and its been good for my off roading with all the standard GMRS features. Not great with repeaters but unnecessary for off road prepossess in most cases. Has NOAA too. The display on the Mic is really nice and its super easy to use and i have an upgraded MXTA26 6db antenna as well as the ghost antenna when i'm not off roading so my 4R will fit in the garage. But now that i have revisited upgrade options im thinking of going with Wouxun KG-1000G Plus.

I purchased a 3rd H3 specifically because of this feature. lol So darn easy!
-
Then put it in NORMAL mode and make sure you never transmit on frequencies you are not aloud to. It's really awesome in NORMAL mode but you will have to start from scratch and program everything manually.
-
Do you have a Ham license? GMRS license?
-
I was going to say. lol 54 is a ton, but yeah i have mine in NORMAL mod so thats why its not been an issue.
-
O, damn that's a lot of GMRS repetitive frequencies to program in there since there are only 22. I don't have that issue, but i also haven't added GMRS passed 36. But i do have many other frequencies programmed and have no issues.
