  1. It will transmit and receive on all GMRS frequencies 1-22 plus others you program. Not sure what 55 and up means. Love my H3, definitely the best radio by far in its price point.
  2. A Sale would be awesome. I also need to PM someone on some technical aspects of programing this unit before i buy. Also wondering the best power hook up to my truck since my Midland is just plugged in to my cig lighter for power. I'm guessing this will need to be direct wiring job.
  3. In my case its been awhile since my last "new" radio and this was a cheap way to get back into radios with all the new features and capabilities. Like BT cloning and an easy to use app as well as more frequency options unlike my old Radio Shack. It was so easy to use it sparked the radio enthusiast in me again and i'm looking to delve a little deeper. It's performed well and served every purpose i have tried it out in so far. It does have FCC certification BTW.
  4. I'm thinking of getting the KG-Q10H since it can be programed for GMRS from what i have herd, same with the KG-1000.
  5. It also seems the non crap china radios are not made in the US ether in some cases and are just nowhere as capable feature wise. Loved my Midland MTX but my cheep Tidradio H3 blows it away feature flexibility and in ease of use. Only thing it lacks is power. Deciding between Wouxun KG-Q10G and/or KG-1000 since i want the most capabilities and no US made radeo within reason seems to comes close.
  6. It sounds like Wouxun has been getting there act together and seem decent. Im also eyeing the Wouxun KG-1000 for my truck.
  7. Picked up a TID H8 second Gen and did some initial testing and it appears to not have anywhere near the amount of power output it suggests. Most GMRS is 2 watt or less and even on Ham/MURS its at 6 watts at best. I have yet to update the firmware, but I don't think that will help. I like it, but it's nowhere near as user friendly or consistent as my H3. Probably will just use it as a home receiver, or maybe ill just return it.
  8. Perfect, thankfully the H3 is super cheap so it should only cost $300. I would also assume for more $$ the quality and accuracy will be better. Thank you for the confirmation and info. It looked like the next logical step with similar features to the H3. A shame its not fully unlocked but i understand the reason even though i know better not to transmit where i shouldn't since i don't have my Ham license yet. Do they even make radios that can both transmit and receive on all bands besides these cheep TID radios? The H3 was my starter besides my old Radio Shack GMRS radios. H3 will likely become backup too.
  9. Haven't seen much discussion about the Wouxun KG-Q10G. Im pondering my next purchase and this model came up. Doesn't seem to have as much capability as my TID H3 but the quality seems better. Are there any radios that can pick up all bands AM/FM/UHF/VHF/GMRS Air band..... and at least transmit on GMRS?
  10. I do have a Midland MXT275 radio for the truck but this new H3 is so much more capable. Ultimately I wanted to expand my knowledge and fermilyerise myself with a more capable cheap radio before i go for a top tire radio. A waterproof 20w+ mobile unit will definitely be my next purchase, just so many out there to choose from. Though i am a little worried ill be spoiled with this H3 with all it can do compared to a quality radio.
  11. This magnet is super strong, i have a hard time removing the radio. lol But yeah, i was looking for pouches and other mounting options too. Especially for carrying since these are not water resistant.
  12. Thank you. I knew there can be some issue with very strong magnets on some electronics but wasn't sure to what level. Like others have said cell phones can mount with a magnet mount without issue.
  13. Sorry, should have been more specific. A strong magnet to mount the H3 to my dash. Its a pretty strong magnet to hold the radio with a metal plate attached to the battery. More specifically a Scoshe mount. I was thinking the magnet may mess with the H3, or any radio.
  14. Curious. I have a TID H3 and was wondering if using a magnetic mount would be an issue for the radio? Will it affect it permanently or just in use?
  15. I have at best 6 repeaters around me and i'm very close to there max range. Never heard any traffic but i only have 2 open repeater options.
  16. Same boat here. Key up give my call sign asking for a radio check but never get a response. And the repeater i am trying to access is open and i have the in/out "tone"/frequency set..
  17. Thank you! And the one you pointed out looks to be better than some of the others.
  18. I already have a standard antenna on my truck for my Midland but want to to try connecting my TID H3 to it. What (quality) adaptor would i need? Using even my 15" antenna inside the truck is definitely not ideal as well.
  19. I don't know, you tell me. So lets try this, you tell me the best had held fully capable radio to buy and i will. Better yet you buy it for me program it and ill pick it up from you.
  20. I have been eyeing the BTECH GMRS-PRO as well as my next step in a fully capable GMRS/VHF/UHF. Good info in this thread. TY
  21. I do! I purchased a 2019 4Runner because my son who is a bug Jeeper said it would be the better choice. And i had a feeling the nanny and safety systems were going to ruin the 4Runner going forward. Couldn't have purchased at a better time and did a year of overlanding all through 2020. GMRS 21-23 open. Simple Midland GMRS with ether a ghost antenna for day to day or long whip for more range. Love VA and WV trails, Peters Mill and a few others in that area.
  22. Thanks guys. I guess i meant HT since i already have a "mobile" unit for my truck (may upgrade later on). I do a decent amount of overlanding and use SW FM/AM and Airband on a portable radio for listening entertainment. So i was hoping i could get a HT that did it all including Ham that i could also use for my GMRS communication over distance.
  23. I have a simple Midland MXT275 for my truck. But i am looking for the "best" mobile radio with multiple capabilities like the Wouxun KG-UV9G PRO GMRS. However many suggest going on eBay (I hate eBay) and finding a used commercial Kenwood/Motorola or something like that. I don't mind overbuying and learning but it will mostly be used for GMRS communications. Something 5 watts with the flexibility of the KG-UV9G PRO. I believe i can listen to Ham and FM on the Wouxun which i would like to have. I'm not super versed in GMRS radios so any advice would be helpful.
