  1. I saw this new topic this morning and just assumed you were from Australia! ?
  2. You are over-thinking this: remember we do that when there exists no easy way to gain preapproval; so the owner's attitude is going to be whatever it was before we asked for permission. And: let me see, once licensed, we all have the right to transmit on GMRS frequencies with or without tones. Doing so politely to ask for permission to use a repeater, maybe be, in your opinion, breaking into his system. But to me your conclusion is a bit over the top! Then go back to your original suggestion: Roll the dice and donate!
  3. Why do you like the GM-15s better?
  4. Sorry to hear about your negative experience. As you know, a I used to go war-driving around SoCal looking for both GMRS and Ham Repeaters and then keep a log for the input codes to see if I can hit them from home. I also decode Morse code IDs and research from there. Most are receptive to my inquiries about "rules" for using their repeater and offers to "join." A few literally never respond to my verbal requests for information, and so I lost interest with no one else to talk to. I note in my log "available" repeater pairs in these instances. On a slightly different note: After driving to the top of Chatsworth Peak to hunt down the repeaters located there, I became aware of the Rocketdyne Santa Susanna Field Laboratory now owed by NASA and Boeing and after further research discovered the nuclear accident there back in the 50s. This information was made more widespread by public interest groups and the Kardashians after the 2018 Woolsey Fire started there and potentially spread radioactive smoke
  5. I take the position that since they are using public spectrum, if they refuse to at least respond to a reasonable request for access, that the answer is "yes" until told otherwise. Then I politely make a request for more information about the repeater on the air.
  6. What great “out of the box” thinking. It seems to me that instead of GMRS, FRS/MURS would be a better pair.
  7. One of my favorite hobbies: go war-driving for GMRS/Ham repeaters and decode their input codes! ?
  8. WELCOME! Check out this guy's videos and yes, he's already married! ? https://www.youtube.com/c/NotaRubiconProductions
  9. Go to the Repeaters page in this Forum and in Advanced, click on both Show Stale Repeaters and Show Offline Repeaters. Then Click Near Me; you may have to enter your City and State in Search before clicking Near Me.
  10. Oh right: I think that in some configurations, GMRS 16 is the simplex receiving frequency for RPT-1 -- 462.575. So you should expect to hear it on both "channels" NOPE: I am wrong; it is GMRS 15 and RPTR-1 that are the same.
  11. I have no experience with Vertex, but do you have any successful experience programming any code plugs previously? The reason I ask, is that I find that most problems are related to installing USB cable drivers and COM settings.
  12. 1) $40 radio = $40 selectivity; and 2) how close are they when you are testing them?
  13. Last I checked, Ham isn't kosher, either! ? Why don't you check and see if there is trademark availability for your repeater setup: THE MOONSHINER! ?
  14. I think we've beaten the point to death: The Culprits you reference are probably not going to join a radio forum and be persuaded by your continued cries for licensing. But feel free to have the last word on the topic...
  15. Except that your "off the cuff" comment was:
  16. I thought I read somewhere that all the new Baofengs are "locked" in that they will not transmit outside of the bands for which they are sold (e.g., ham or gmrs). Is this really a "thing" or just an issue that you cannot resist posting about?!? Maybe we should just get all Jeeps declared illegal! ?
  17. Exactly: Long before there were CCRs generating unlicensed users the monthly TRW swap meet sales would generate their own pool of unlicensed users on the Ham bands! It's really old news.
  18. No one here acts like its OK: we're just tired about hearing all the preaching to the choir about the issue.
  19. WELCOME! The Rules aside, you can accomplish this, but only two people can talk to each other simplex over split frequencies, it will not work with a 3rd or more.
  20. Pointless replies to Forum posts! He said he brought it up to the guy TWO YEARS IN A ROW and he is not interested in getting a GMRS license. Why don't you go next year and have a chat with him, too!
  21. Then leave it as a Part 95(e) GMRS radio and program those Ham repeaters into the other channels and NOAA too! I think that unopened there is a smaller limit of channels available, but I am not sure. The next one I buy, I will study it "out of the box" more before I open it up for Ham and more.
  22. I think our confusion in answering your question is because we do not know what transmitting you intend to do with this radio.
  23. Yes, and this radio easily allows for changing MODEs to and from GMRS, although different code plugs must be installed for each MODE.
