  1. Yes: As noted in my screenshot of the CPS programming above, I did reset them both to WIDE. Not sure why the CPS allows these changes, if as @KAF6045suggests, these are not to be changed in FRS radios, but WTH! One will cause substantial feedback/squeal to the other; but in the opposite case: not so much! I suspect that one of them is just a bit defective; but for $12.50 each, one can hardly expect too much quality!! UPDATE: Amazon is sending me two more, so I should be able to get at least two "good" ones out of the batch!
  2. WoW! Where's @TNRoninwhen we need him! ?
  3. Really?!? I know of at least three different radios that can be programmed completely differently to be able to hit a repeater on this frequency. And last time I checked, you didn't offer the OP any help either!
  4. Last time I checked you offered the OP no help...
  5. I've noticed one of these FRS HTs has much more volume on receive than the other; any ideas?
  6. WELCOME! I am not in Orlando, but... Which radio? Which repeaters? Link to RadioReference.com for these repeaters, please.
  7. Help is easier when you tell us which radio you are using.
  8. Other than clumsy CPS software, and the fact that it is only 20 watts, I know of no other criticisms of the wonderfully useful and low priced Radioddity DB-20-G (haha) a/k/a Anytone AT-779UV.
  9. Good choice, although having played with the Retevis CPS software, it is not interchangeable with the Radioddity or Anytone CodePlug, so I generally do not recommend the Retevis version. For Example, I have posted the Codeplug on the PAPA System for the Radioddity and/or Anytone versions.
  10. Have you looked at the $99-$109 20 watt mini-mobile Radioddity DB20-G a/k/a Anytone AT-779UV GMRS radio that opens to 2 meters, 70 cms and MURS?
  11. There is some sort of glitch that I have not figured out yet: Programmed as shown in the Screenshot above, and left on Channel 22 when programmed it works. But once it is on another channel and then manually set to Channel 22 and then turned off and then on, it is not working.
  12. Terrific find! Now in addition to the two other versions of the manual that I have downloaded. It is not working: when I turn off on Channel 22 and then turn back on, it comes on Channel 21 but does not scan. If you look at my CPS screenshot above, I will try turning ON first the BusyLock and then the JumpCode to see if it works! ? UPDATE: The SCAN paragraph is indeed in the printed manual that comes with these HTs!
  13. Actually there are 30 channels in GMRS.
  14. It just may be a setting in the CPS software, as I cannot find a way to scan.
  15. Thanks for the tip about the software: my dual-pack arrived, I charged them up and used my UV-5R cable with your programming software (in Windows XP in Parallels on my Mac Mini) and it programs very easily. I note some SCAN settings; see below. Have you been able to activate Scanning on these units? I notice that the software uses the xml format for its data files. I brought up the file in my XML editor and it loads, but I have not tried to modify any settings this way yet. What interests me is the possibility to modify one HT to transmit on a Repeater Input frequency, while using the other to listen to that same Repeater's Output frequency and in effect give them Repeater capability (or even do split transmit/receive on one channel). 1309792507_PofungBF-T11User-Manual-4518348.pdf
  16. Ontario, CA? Do you have a programming cable for your HT?
  17. Through October 31st, 2022: Announcing the QRZ New Ham Jumpstart Program
  18. "BaoFeng Pofung BF-T11 walkie talkies has license-free FRS storage channels. You can also set up to 22 channels through the frequency writing software, and the custom channel is high-power or low-power, suitable for the needs of different scenarios, the working and standby time of the two way radios will be longer." Amazon Two for $27: put them right next to your GMRS HTs and then, problem solved, so what's the debate about?!?
  19. Yes you can communicate with each other since, of course, you both would have switched to a non-repeater channel, which by definition is simplex. This assumes that both radios do not use a "tone" on their receive side.
  20. Zero privacy is better than no privacy at all!!! ?
  21. There is no shame to a repeat question: times and technologies change and an update to such a previously dated topic can always be in order.
  22. The great thing about a good quality GMRS HT is that when you are unsure about hitting a repeater, you can take it with you for a drive closer to the Repeater. Pre-Program two channels with each digital tone on the output so you can experiment further.
  23. The solution to a sad-ham with a Midland is a happy-ham with a Midland! ?
