  1. As @WyoJoesuggests: get the Ra-25 and ignore the buttons on the Mic; solves all your other problems.
  2. What kind of event? Do you know which frequency it was set to transmit on? Perhaps they were using them set to 2 watts on an FRS or MURS channel; not technically in compliance with the FCC rules for FRS/MURS, but probably not that much in variance with the FRS/MURS rules to cause the FCC to track them down.
  3. They probably had a Club License with its own callsign. Licensed Hams could supervise and run the equipment and allow unlicensed Boy Scouts to talk over the equipment, using the Club's callsign and not have to use the individual callsign of the supervisor.
  4. I hope those videos don’t repeat these double negatives! ?
  5. Hey, @WROA675Give Bob some tips on how he, as an 80 year old, can study and take the Tech exam in New Jersey!
  6. With regard to GMRS, the FCC seems to take a Wild West approach to repeaters. There are only 8 available repeater channels, and for most regions, these are probably enough.
  7. It's good that you waited and did not take The Tech test when you were young and ... ?
  8. Most GMRS radios disable their VFO ability, so as to keep within FCC regulations for GMRS. Which models besides the GM-30 do you have?
  9. I know it's early in the am; and I am just drinking my first cup of coffee, but... You respond to a post one year later; to an OP who has not even revisited this forum in over 12 months, and you hurl out insults to Hams?!?
  10. Which FRS radio are you referring to?
  11. Radioddity GM-N1
  12. Lots of repeaters to access once you get your Tech Ham license: SoCal Repeaters
  13. I can hit and I pay dues to CREST, so if you like contact me by email and we can try to chat: My screenname at AOL dot COM
  14. I personally have no familiarity with TCA Radios, but your Receive and Transmit frequencies are incorrectly reversed. Looks like you are in SoCal.
  15. Actually when I was alerted you quoted me, it took me right to your message and I did not see the new OP message above yours. I will try his link, but I probably do not remember my FRN or my password. It's not something that comes up much except maybe once in 10 years... UPDATE: Yeah, I forgot it...
  16. OK, @Sshannonhow about a link to that then.
  17. Unless the Repeater database here claims Permission Required and if it lists the tone, my attitude is to also go on the repeater and ask another user about usage requirements. GOOD LUCK!
  18. Not sure where you are referencing: Google search comes up with a few places to print copy suitable for framing: http://www.radioqth.net/fcclicscopy https://wireless2.fcc.gov/ and more Which one are you referring to?
  19. That is strange for a HT as well received as the Wouxun KG-805G, that it is not properly applying the receiver tones. You are getting great reception range between those two repeaters, but maybe it is a challenge to be able to hit them until you get your jPole up and running. I see some other repeaters listed near you, but some may no longer be active:
  20. The good news is that there are only 8 repeater channels in the GMRS world Create these 8 channels on your Baofeng and then scan them: 462.550 462.575 462.600 462.625 462.650 462.675 462.700 462.725 Set the transmit frequency for each of these channels as 467.xyz as needed to gain the GMRS split to transmit with also the necessary access tones. I would be surprised if your Baofeng can find a GMRS repeater that your 935G cannot.

    GMRS cost

GMRS’ers get one 10 year license for $70. Hams will now get license upgrades everytime for a fee instead of free I hope it takes them forever to implement the change!
  22. Where do you live? Which Channels/frequencies do you hear repeaters on your Baofeng?
  23. Good work! Let us know when the FS-N1 is released.
  24. Hey Scott: What radio? Which repeater? Luckily they have an authentic Portillo’s about 35 miles south of me in Orange County!
  25. Not sure why you want to rehash this issue all over again, 6 months later, but I stand by my prior comments: Did you measure this radio's output with a reliable meter? These radios are notoriously oversold on wattage claims.
