  1. I have both the TYT-88UV and the clone of the GM-30, the Pofung P15UV, and my guess is that the battery eliminator for the TYT will work on the GM-30. Lets Get Ready sells both the battery eliminator and the high capacity battery (3200 MAh) for the TYT-UV88. I purchased the TYT-UV88 and the high capacity battery from them and I believe it is free shipping. @WyoJoeknows much about this topic, too.
  2. The story, as told to me, is that two Titans of the Los Angeles GMRS community, DD and KB, have somewhat disputed claims to the Channel 30 Repeater pair and are attempting to show off whose J-Pole is longer! ? Here is a bit out of date discussion of 725 from back in 2019; although the current "war" is a new twist: Reddit 2019 discussion of 725 LA Repeater
  3. Both UPDATE: I have tried to include a 63 KB mp3 audio clip of the output of the repeater, but this forum will not accept it.

  6. Good work getting your GD-77 to receive DMR! So you have local DMR repeater? I do not know if the GM-30 and the UV-5R have the same gender SMA connector: one may be male and the other female. There is an adapter, which I have and use, but it puts more force on the base of the antenna potentially breaking the HT!
  7. 1) Hex tool will loosen the screw at the bottom of the rubber duck antenna so that you can unscrew it. Many people like the Nagoya 771-G antenna as a replacement for portability or even a $30 mag-mount dual-band antenna can be placed outside on your vehicle (I suggest the Nagoya for now). 2) Keep up the good work on your Tech license studies. Have your sons help you out with the questions and they can point you to better answers. @Papatree: Do you have some Tech study tips for Marvin? He also has the GM-30 and I think the same QYT! 3) I have the Radioddity RD-5R DMR HT which is electronically the GD-77 in a Baofeng UV-5R style case. Once you get your Tech license I can help you program a Codeplug for St. Louis and with DMR (and hopefully a local DMR repeater, or a "hotspot") you will be chatting all over the world! Good luck and keep up the good work!
  8. Yes, if your radio's CPS software allows for input by say, comma-separated values (csv); for example: CHIRP, do this: 1) Filter the repeaters on myGMRS as needed for your area (Advanced Search); 2) Slide your mouse across the first repeater selected and down to the last repeater selected (with the button pushed down) to Select All the filtered repeaters; 3) Do a Control-C copy (Windows or Command-C for Mac); 4) Open a text editor or word processor and in a new-blank document, do a Control-V paste (Windows or Command-V for Mac); 5) Save this document as something like "MyRepeaters.csv" 6) Follow the directions in How to use CSV files in CHIRP This is not exactly "plug and play" but once you get the hang of it, you can save you some time vs. manually typing them in, especially if there are many filtered repeaters:
  9. Well considering the nationwide debate over vaccination, it was only a matter of time before "the constitutional right to drive without a license" movement was born! ? Keep up the good work! ?
  10. Does that count as 2 votes for 19? ?
  11. How does FM propagate on 11 meters during skip? I've never tried FM on 10 meters during a band opening.
  12. I can't agree with your observation. I believe this to be an incredible amount of radio efficiency for the price: It actually outperforms my Yaesu FT-857d on both 2 meters and 70 cm into the same Comet Tri-bander I have on my 2nd story roof. I don't miss an S-Meter when I can turn off the squelch (Mon) and hear stations in the mud that I would not normally be able to communicate with. I am actually considering replacing my 857d with the Yaesu FT-891 for 80 through 6 meters for $635, using the DB-20G (in my case denoted Anytone AT-779UV) for 2 meters and 70 cms and putting the 857d back in my backpack with my eBay collapsable portable antenna and going back on the road! Much cheaper than purchasing another 857d on the used market! Inexpensive: yes; cheap - NO!
  13. Do you ever hear any activity from this repeater? Do they ID? What radio are you using? What state is Vilonia? They might not have a "repeater tail." Do you have a 2nd GMRS radio to put some distance between you and another family member and try to communicate through this repeater?
  14. I think they are quoting the GOOGLE Machine result and not searching within YouTube...
  15. What radio are you using? Do you know how to program the Repeater channels with the necessary tones? Can you drive closer to a repeater, presuming you have an HT, and try to listen for a "repeater tail" after you identify yourself? Just trying to help out...
  16. Let's get the Captain's input on this topic How about an unofficial travel channel on MURS? ?
  17. And as I've informed you, Nigel Tufnel of Spinal Tap, has a guitar amp that goes up to 11! ?
  18. It's "signal meter" is from 1 to 10 dashes; how accurate could you expect it to be?!? ?
  19. Here's a few more:
  20. Welcome to GMRS and to the myGMRS forum! I do not know the geography of Missouri; do any of these repeaters look close to you: What radio are you using?
  21. Don't tell that to your kids! ?
  22. Everything just changed with the new look & feel of this website and even I am trying to get comfortable with some of the changes... For example, when I brought up Map, my web browser would ask for permission to share my location and when I clicked Allow, the map would automatically focus in to the Los Angeles area. Now this map comes up first and I must click on that compass icon, highlighted by the arrow, to get it to ask for location permission (which I discovered by accident!): And searching for Repeaters, something I enjoyed doing often for new members who would post questions about finding repeaters in their area, has now become much more complicated. I do not like this new search function, and tend to not chime in on those requests as often... (Some members would suggest that getting me to chime in less often is a "feature" and not a "bug!" ? ) So, I agree with you, that there is improvement that can be done with this new configuration.
  23. I didn't say 10 meters is 30 MHz; I said that 30 MHz is 10 meters! As @OldRadioGuywould say: Actually 30 MHz is 9.99308 meters, to be more precise! I was just rounding up for you repeater guys! ?
  24. But at least I cite the factual basis for my opinion for the reader to judge for themselves...
