Nothing illegal owning/operating multiple repeaters,, Unless you are making money doing it.. Like most politicians whom become Millionaires the minute they enter office, finding and operating in the 'gray' areas is always overlooked and ignored. Does it piss off some people, Yup.. Does it make some people happy, Yup.. Is it right and fair? Some people say yup some say nope.. In regards to repeater usage on GMRS, I base my options on how the FCC set up GMRS and how they define its uses. No one has to agree with my opinions, i don't care if they do or don't. The important thing is, i'm able to voice them.. Like the Video guy,,there is a lot of things he says and does i disagree with and there are things he does and says i agree with, So i don't tune him 'out'. I still watch his videos and i leave comments he may thing are positive and some he may think are negative..

You're right, and i do realize that currently there ar no rules prohibiting how many GMRS repeaters one can operate. I find it interesting that someone can invest 40-50K and more for a pool of repeaters to talk with their family and friends.. Usually you don't spend that kind of money unless you're gong to make money. t.. I guess there is more than one Elon in this world and thats cool.. Do i think it is right for one person in one area is allowed to dominate the entire GMRS spectrum with their slew of repeaters leaving out the guy that wants to use the service for it's intention.. No i don't. Now i have talked in person with one of these guys that operated a big handful of repeaters He is also a HAM guy and he said, before the FCC put the hammer down on Linking, he was making money via club membership. He also said he is winding down his operation because he is loosing tons of club members supporting it. So that tells me that probably most are making money on them.. And that is illegal and for a mother story.

Was on the phone yesterday with my stock broker and the hot investments right now are American companies competing with the Chinese market in hobby and light industiral arts stuff like 3D Printers, Laser cutters and etchers. etc. He also told me some products coming from China like the Bambu Labs 3D printers are going to be made in America still owned by China investors. Overall, i think this is all good and will drive quality back into the things we buy.

J-Poles don't like any type of obstruction around them.. I have talked 90 miles + with my portable setup when mounted out in a wide open area.. But when i get around something like a single treee, it goes to hell like what you are describing. Overall i get pretty good performance from it, defiantly better than a fire stick. I also built a Ladder Lead J-pole, like the Ed Fong version, the copper version seems to work much better.

Copper J-Poles are pretty hard to build for UHF, you must get the precise measurements to a T for the frequencies and they extremely hard to tune SWR's. As others suggested the best way to tune them is via a NANO VNA. I came up with a sliding adjustment gimmick for tuning SWR that works well. Made with cooper compression splices you can get at home depot.

i did a duplicate filter and it did show some but not a lot. Check the highlights on the coordinates. repdubvalues.pdf

I will throw this out when using Windows 11. For some reason i found ID O Matic needed a reboot about every 2-3 days because the time function by Windows 11 would lock up the I D O Matic. ID O Matic seems to use addresses from the Windows clock. I'm not sure if they addressed this, i had the problem about 1.5 years ago. It worked flawlessly when programed via Windows 10 Laptop but I ended up going to Open Repeater with an ICS for a controller. Since then i have aquired a repeater with a built in controller so not messing with controllers anymore. The ID O Matic was just o.k. but i enjoyed the ICS controller a whole lot better. In fact, i may end up implementing it back to my existing repeater.

I filtered out below 3.. There are tons of operators with two. I have two as well, but i only report one because the second repeater, like you is portable, it goes where i go. And for the most part, i shut down my main reported repeater when on extended camping trips away from home

Entireley possible, I'll check the master and see if i can weed out duplicates. I did sort these by active. There were many more reported as inactive that were not included as should be.. I'll check both coordinates and locations, and delete any duplicates..

I can see the traffic issue in areas like New York, New Jersey etc. Some people have complained about it, It’s very easy to see why

yes, earlier this afternoon the site was quirky.. I had trouble pulling some DB data down. Had about a 20 min window when it seemed to work well.

Like I said.. I can't help you Bud.. Maye you can tell your friends to update their stuff. If i could read 'minds' we would all be 'Rich'

Also, i had to emulate Windows 10 when i installed on my Windows 11 machine. If i remember, you right click on the executable and choose Windows 10 emulation. but i honesty can't remember. something to google.. also might help to run your zip extraction in Admin Mode,, another right flight, run as administrator

its a very easy step by step process. Pretty hard not to get it the first time. You will need to install and use PUTTY which is free, The instructions allso show you how to download and install PUTTY.

I got really curious how many GMRS repeaters are owned or licensed by a single license on the reported repeaters here on MyGMRS. So i put together a quick little (actually pretty large) report that shows just that. The parameters are 3 repeaters and above and identified by single call sign as reported. I really didn't expect to see some of the numbers some folks have in the number of repeaters. Holly Cow!. Can you imagine the investment some of these folks have made. So the next question,, Why?? does a single user need so many repeaters for a service meant for family and friends. Especially, after considering how the FCC has clarified its usage. I can see now why some folks in certain areas complain of no bandwidth. Certainly some areas in the mid west and east just have not room.. Just Trivia stuff and very interesting. Portable base station antenna (camping/SHTF) recommendations
WRUE951 replied to WSHQ437's topic in General Discussion
i use a home brew Cooper J-Pole for my portable repeater i use for my 5th wheel travel trailer. I mount the antenna on a Harbor Freight telescoping flag pole which is mounted on my rear RV Ladder. (about 25-30' height) The J-Pole (1/2"material) is light enough that it doesn't whip around much on the flagpole. The J-Pole does not require a ground plane, or even a ground which makes it handy for fiberglass RV applications. And it performs reasonably well. I've talked about 90 miles base-to-base with this setup at Lake Crawley where i have wide open areas. However the J-Pole does not perform well around trees or other obstructions.
