  1. Did a tour of the mines last Sept and camped at Alabama Hills.. Lots of simplex activity from Hikers. I don't frequent that area enough to maintain a repeater gut you are right, coverage from Cerro Gordo Peak would be a killer. I'll donate/loan a repeater to the right someone if they are interested in setting up and maintaining at Cerro Gordo
  2. Mark is right on the travel channel. There was an attempt to set up CH 20 with 141.3 tone several years back but it never caught wind.. However it you scan while traveling, ch 20 does seem to get more random traffic then most other chnnels, unitl you get near bigger cities.. Then you are in for a free for all.
  3. I know the point, but is it necessary to set up a GMRS Repeater to CWID every 15 mins of the hour 24/7 regardless of traffic..No, it is not necessary.. To me, the owners are trying to send a message, "this is my frequency", hence - dogs pissing on tires
  4. there for a second, i thought he was talking farts
  5. the only foliage i see is a 3' high tumbleweed .. In the evenings i can see the glow from the lights coming out of Las Angeles 130 miles south.
  6. Yea, if you consider end to end with repeater setting in the middle.
  7. My repeater antenna sits about 45 AGL from a ground elevation of 2,600 feet. Mt. Whitney is about 75-80 miles away, line of site. Last summer i talked with a hiker sitting at Whitney Portals whom was talking off a Baufang UV5R off my repeater. I've talked to mobiles on Hwy 395 near Lone Pine, about the same distance but not the elevation angle as Mt. Whitney.. I sit in a unique spot where i sit in a valley and surrounded by long mountain ranges.. Another repeater 12 miles from me sitting at 4,300 feet can talk 200+ miles. Aside from Antenna height, other factors come into play such as ground elevation and elevation of surrounding areas. The guy sitting at Whitney Portals said he was at 8,400 feet.
  8. try watching this video
  9. Hey Negative Nancy, thats because you never meet anyone.. Nobody wants anything to do with you!
  10. there is a reason, can you imagine going to an ATM machine and spending an hour finding your language to proceed This is no joke,, the other day i was standing in line at an ATM an older guy in front of me using the machine starts cursing out loud. I said ' what are thy out cash' he says "F**K no, this G*D D*mn machine, I can't read spanish bla bla bla.. . He strugles to get his card out, he finally does, he storms inside the bank... OK, my turn, first screen says select 'yoour language'.. I guess he selected the wrongh one
  11. couple years ago someone did a full write-up on that SWR/PWR meter here. Do a search see if you can find... And even though i have Socalgmrs blocked he message squeaked through,, perhaps because I'm on my Windows Box. Just block the idiot and don't pay any attention to Negative Nancy.. That's what we call him
  12. the Daiwa is kind of a funky meter, Don't use the P.E.P. and try.
  13. Exactly the way I'ding is suppose to be. BTW,, the RC-210 is a nice versatile controller. I saw a 3D case on Makers World for this board.
  14. Personally, i think the guy's id'ing every 15 mins on the hour is no different than a dog pissing on tires.
  15. i might be wrong. check this threat on another site: https://forums.radioreference.com/threads/icom-ic-fr4000-cw-id-help.443905/
  16. I don't think you can set it on a interval timer. Kenwood's can be set that way.. Its probly better to set it for traffic only anyway
  17. fI don' t don't know my 'Jelly's' too well.. But I'll stick with Blackberry..
  18. You sure can.. Let us know when you get her going
  19. if you read the article, you would see real world scenarios. KY Jelly is petroleum based and would liquify under heat. It may work as an anti-seize for a short period but would be useless over time.

  21. I wish the FCC had an option to keep your information private, especialy in this day and age. Couple years ago i sent them a mail message asking them to consider this. They should treat your information no different than DMV does..
  22. They use the 8000 series radios 8402 i believe. You can order the complete Maxon Service Manual for all Maxon radios on CD for $30 last i saw a year ago on RFWiz.com. I have read on Repeater Builder that Brifgecomm uses the actual 8402 boards so the xtmtr board should be the same.. I would get hold of a service manual to see if they are using two boards, may be one board with both XTMT/REC on one and they are using two to complete a repeater.
  23. Bridgecom software is different (slightly) but Maxons software will still make changes.
