  1. Voltage in your truck is defiantly too high.. Is your truck under warranty? If so, take it in. Also double check with another volt meter to compare reading in case your volt meter is whacky
  2. Facebook Marketplace a danger zone.. A guy selling items from his home, giving one of his buyers his home address found out the hard way.. Apparently he friended a buyer one day, telling the friendly buyer all about him and his wife's upcoming two week cruise. The guy came home to a ransacked empty home. The buyers breadcrumbs on Facebook were fake.. Never caught
  3. I haven't heard of hacking a digital system but like anything else, it's possible. But i think much more difficult for the average person with Digital when you consider hacking ' eavesdropping
  4. yup, it's not illegal to 'program'. rather illegal to transmit on an unauthorized frequency.
  5. I say an intentional act. Cities Counties, etc selling off old radios decommision them and clean of all programing. The guy admitted to tuning into a police frequency and also menat he had to tune in the correct PL tones. A few years ago the same thing happened in our community. After about two days a squad of Hams assisting the cops were able to zero in on the offender. The FCC in this case was notified after they nailed the guy and according to the news accounts, the FCC handled the problem.. Now days with Public Safety going all digital its almost impossible to breach their systems.
  6. that would be an interesting one to look up.. Hmmm Alias name? is that legal?
  7. adjust the squelch level on the receiving radios for the specific channels.
  8. I found the user manual, (attached) looks like that radio is only programable from the front panel and with limited options to program. i.e. selecting CTSS Code etc. User-manual-5349964.pdf
  9. I believe that radio not programmable. More like a Bubble Wrap FRS radio
  10. Try deleting the driver and rebooting the machine with the program cable and radio pluged in..
  11. I would believe the cracks in fiberglass radome theory, i've actually seen some poor quality radomes in my time. When a bird can crash into one and kill it, you know the quality of these are in the dump somewhere.
  12. 350 some odd repeaters strong in Texas.. Texas has big beers too,, OP needs to stick with the smaller bottles
  13. i have a Harbor Freight Telescoping flag pole mounted on my 5th wheel trailer (rear ladder mounted) that i slide a home brew Copper J-Pole with 3D printed clamps. This set up is for a portable repeater when camping. Fully extended im getting about 20-25' and with no obstructions around me i get pretty decent coverage. It doesn't take much to hamper the signal, a few trees will kill the signal quality. You should see the same type results.
  14. Ain't that the truth. We did a road trip from Calif to Minnesota two years ago.. I would say our cell service was was hit and miss about 60 percent good and even though we had cell service didn't mean we could connect to internet most of the time.. We learned there is actually two levels of service, Cell and Internet. And even now i believe some cellular companies are teaming up with Starlink to expand cell coverage but not Internet. We now have Starlink and use it on Roaming when on the road and never been without internet connectvity since.
  15. Well, I'll be a 'Art, Bart, Fart and Fargo'... welcome to the site there fella
  16. give him a day or two to do his research. He will be in trouble if his internet connections fails him
  17. for the most part, these dissimilar metals only become problems when they are introduced to environments where corrosive effects can cause a reaction such as moisture. Sealing and protecting any metal connection is mandatory. Even gold can cause corrosive effects on electrical connections under certain environmental conditions. Install your connections with simple electrical common sense and connect away..
  18. i've got mine set up in Zones. i.e. GMRS Rptr - GMRS Smplx - WIN - HAM-1 - HAM-2 - Crowley - Sac - Ariz1 - Ariz 2 - Bullhead - Garlock.. etc..
  19. My antenna is 52’ abgl and 2700’ absl and sits about 300’ above the valley floor. It has as far as the eye can see range at 270 degrees and about 29 miles in south 90 degrees, The valley floor is all desert, no trees or tall buildings, just distant mountains with exception to one big one just south. It gets most use by 4 wheelers/off roaders in nearby hills.
  20. right at this moment, I'm running about 130' LMR 400, lightning protected and my repeater talks 100+ miles every day. Everyone that uses it is happy, There is no need to throw anymore money at it. Which would be a good chunk of change if i did. I did go through an ordeal with Antennas, I now have that sorted out and back in business. Sharing my experience, hopefully people can benefit from that.
  21. you are welcome to use whatever you want, its your money.. I can tell you i have operated repeaters in the spec range i specified and had no problems talking over a range of 100+ miles. I've had more issues with Antennas effecting my range than the coax and length. Just my two cents.
  22. if you are running a 40-50 W Repeater and your antenna is within 150-200', go with LMR 400. If you are pushing over 200' then consider Heliax Coax. With the latter, be prepared to shell out a lot of money, coax, connectors, tools etc.......
  23. When i had my JK Jeep, my Midland SMRS antenna was mounted on the left cowl back side of the hood. It worked fantastic in any direction. Now with my 10 meter mounted there, not so good. In fact i couldn't find a single place to mount my 10 Meter that worked as will as it does on my truck.
