  1. Keep checking Ebay.. every once in while there are some pretty good deals on duplexers. Don't be afraid to buy older duplexers, they're passive, nothing to go wrong with them.. Just try to get them sent to you tuned and ready to go.. I just sent an I.M. to the guy i bought from, he has nothing for sale at the moment..
  2. keep your eyes open on ebay and look for a 4 cavity and hopefully seller will tune to your specs.. Last summer I picked up two Tessco's (both Tuned) for $1,000 delivered and love the heck out of them. One is a spare, had to buy both and have zero regrets.
  3. i woiuld just say "10-11-87, we have a 10-100 in progress" - 'Over'
  4. the FCC says t0 codes are premissable but i can you that 98% of Generation Z has no idea what the most common 10 code, 10-4 means.. Before i retired, i would always have fun answering simple yes questions emails from these young folks with a simple 10-4.. It amazed me that most these folks would answer back, Ahh?? or what do you mean or what does that mean... But since the FCC says 10-codes are permissible,, 10-Code away and have fun..
  5. all of us here were in your shoes at one time. And i think most of us have spent a 'TON' of money progressing to our 'True Love'' I started of with AnyTone & Baufang radios, then to Wouxun, Motorola, Maxon and now my 'True Love' Hytera. Although i still maintain my Maxon Repeater, I'm getting ready to switch it to a Hytera Repeater.. As someone just starting out, i highly recommend getting an AnyTone mobile and few Baufang Radios.. Cheap and very good radios and they'll provide you learning skills so you can join the group and have many many radios.. Welcome to GMRS and i hope you have fun..
  6. But its legal it there is nothing you can do about it... Other than change your address to a PO Box or use mailing service.
  7. Everyone's most favorite hand held radio is the best.... And not a single sole can change that
  8. check out his new KML lookup.. (Google Earth)
  9. i had one for my RV for awhile was a nice radio until the display decided to go south.
  10. I have one, i actually prefer the Hytera for simplicity.. i paid 375 for the xtl 5000 w/ software and cable.
  11. Not necessarily. I picked up a Hytera HM782 mobile on Ebay last summer for $350 bucks. Best radio i've ever owned and have since picked up a couple PD782 Portables for pretty damn good deal. Keep your eyes out, you can get pretty good deals on the Motorolas as well. Plenty of software on line for either radios so thats a none issue. I love the Hytera Radios.
  12. I've always choose DuraComm Power supplies
  13. I don't think you'll find a better radio for GMRS than a KG1000, unless you go in Pirate mode and go with a Motorola, Kenwood or Hytera..
  14. Yup,, I remember too,, HAMS was the go-to cheap stuff. and it worked
  15. I'd bet half the traffic you hear in any large metropolitan area is not even licensed. Particularly in the Las Angeles basin area. And i would even stretch that to include actual repeaters. I'm even hearing a lot of business using GMRS now, like Motels, Grocery Outlets, Construction Co, Landscaping Companies.. I've had a few landscaping companies try to use my repeater, they are hard to get rid of, they don't care. But when you learn who they are and get in touch with their owner and educate them on the FCC laws they will disappear. Self Policing the GMRS repeater Bands and getting harder and harder, sometimes i just turn it off. Thank goodness for the remote access.
  16. well,, the FCC can have a 'Hay Day' in the Las Angeles basin area. But we all know that aint ever gonna happen
  17. I dont know about being easy.. some folks have a hard time signing up.. I must have helped a dozen people last year navigating the web site(s) to get their license.. Hell, passing the technician test is almost as easy. - Just saying
  18. yup, i just made the comment in relation to privacy (somewhat)
  19. Voice Scramblers works well, especially in the Hytera radios.. But problem with that, everyone needs a like radio. Other problem, if anyone worries about it. FCC Illegal for GMRS. But still quite a few still use it.
  20. ICS controller can be configured to turn up/down via HTML or DTMF. The Bridgecom you refer to is most likely set up with an ICS controller they are plug an play for Bridgecom,, Arcom may work as well but i don't think Arcom can switch via HTML
  21. its actually worse than CB in the LA Basin.. Most of it does disappear once you get over Cajon Pass
  22. very busy, people purposely stepping all over everyone, including the repeater channels.. lots (LOTS) of profane language, Get over the valley and it disappears back to normal life except the two guys on ch 19, i swear, they start yapping at 5:00 a.m. and keep going.. They must have a good repeater site, i can hear them in L.A. and Barstow. I'm just spoiled being in the desert.
  23. if you want to hear a complete zoo,, scan the GMRS channels driving between Las Angels and San Berdino. I don't even bother anymore..
  24. You can get 7.62x39 from Ammo Supply Wharehose in Pahrump NV for reasonable price
