  2. that's how you end up with 'junk'
  3. Putting fuel pumps in perspective.. Top Fuel that is.. What a beast.
  4. it's better to collect then to fascinate.
  5. My vintage, don't mess with my radio theft alarm.
  6. I have no problem defending my life and my property as our great constitution allows.. And don't be silly and try to put words in my mouth. We don't play those games. ..
  7. I think the point,, More of those would mean less of the theft.
  8. you guys insisting on linking repeaters,, why dont you spend a little time and just get a damn HAM license and do it right. Dammmmmm
  9. where is Gary's GTO
  10. I have a friend that lives at a cabin @ 5,500' near Tonopah. When i camp at Crawley lake we talk simplex quite a lot. It's probably a 120 mile line of site link. When i go low power on my Hytera, about 10 watts, he looses me. He is on a Kenwood and the same happens, i loose him for the most part on low power. The Hytera does pull a little bit. Also tried using HT's and no way. I'm using a Copper J-Pole on my end, he has a Larsen Dipole on his. Power does work in odd ways in UHF but i know in this situation it defiantly helps.
  11. Whoopie,, $40 bucks to a better repeater
  12. The metal version is nice but i don't have the tools to do metal. I actually copied the idea for my version from someone selling them on Ebay for $80 bucks. I figured, hell i can make that one my printer, probably cost me $5 bucks in ABS material. Since, i've made about a dozen for friends and family with different variations for their make of vehicle.
  13. Most GMRS repeater users with id' ing set them so they ID every half hour regardless of traffic.. In my area there are 5 GMRS repeaters and all you hear for the most part is their CW ID every single half hour.. And there are a handful in Los Angeles area that do the same but they are using a long winded Voice ID, some with time and temp. I find it total ridicilous,. I don't know what controller they are using but every controller i have ever used allows you to set them to trigger when 'busy' only.. They only trigger when traffic is present.. Unlike HAM repeaters, GMRS is shared frequencies, One is not assigned a frequency for their soul use, so there is no need to ring your CW every single half hour.
  14. My 3D printed version.
  15. his favorite radio..
  16. Go on Ebay and search 'Nylon Carry Cases" You'll go to sleep looking at the thouseands of options
  17. Yup, this is the way SWR works, but you still have antenna tunning. some people may think they still can stick any type of antenna on their HT's and be good to go but 'nope'. You still need an antenna tuned to the frequency's of use for optimum performance
  18. i learned the hard way after dozens of radios. Hytera PD682 & PD612 for me.
  19. Not sure why you want to lock into CHIRP. If you want everything you're asking for and a much better CPM, Try a Motorola, Kenwood, Hytera and really never look back with no questions asked.
  20. Yea,, just do it!
  21. There are a lot of other questions you have to figure out. I use a home brew copper J-Pole on my portable repeater set up. That antenna mounts on a 30' telescoping flagpole mounted on my RV ladder. The J-Pole does not require a ground plane or a ground however i would still ground the antenna regardless.. The J-Pole is also fairly light and won't overweight the flagpole unless you get a good wind. There is no way i would mount a dipole on the flagpole as the added weight and length will overwhelm the pole. You need something light and nimble, consider wither a copper j-pole or a twin lead J-pole like the Ed Fong J-pole antenna..
  22. looks nice.. I actually experimented with the dip process couple years ago and it was a big flop.. Just recently i painted an anteena radom with your method and it came out pretty good. Although i didn't go into the fine detail with Que-Tips.. Good Job
  23. that sounds pretty 'stinky'
