  1. I think of it like a private party across the street or a private pool at a hotel, sure you can see and hear what’s happening but if you don’t have an invitation or the code for the gate you’re not part of it.
  2. I like the look of the Icom one. Retevis has one that you can get with the RA87 as well. https://www.retevis.com/products/rmb87-40w-desktop-base-station-radio-kit
  3. Warning the following was composed pre morning coffee!!! Kristonapony! I’m sure glad there’s people keeping up the fight on whether or not a 15” antenna will fit in a box and if said box is standard or not. I was up all night worrying about it (was too). We need a slogan. Antenna Gate 2025? Free the whip? Feel free to post your ideas and be sure to pick a side. For the record if I order something and it doesn’t come, I take the novel approach of contacting who I got it from and say excuse me, can I get that thing I bought. Amazon is pretty good about returns in my experience. Speaking of Amazon lol, I found this. I can’t say if it ships in a standard box or not. Who knew there was so much dislike for the eggplant that they have shirts?. Affiliate link below? I now return you to the forum already in progress. Where my coffee?
  4. Seems like the site has been a bit buggy lately, I got it to show up with stale turned on. Looks like it’s been over a year since the owner updated. @Ark1 try sending the owner a message and ask him about the repeater. They might appreciate knowing that their page fell into stale and that they just need to log into their repeater account to make it update.
  5. Any of the Wouxun radios I feel are good. I like the Wouxun KG 935G plus. It ticks your boxes of nothing cheap, chirp programmable, mid tier. Since you want to use hiking it’s worth noting the 805, 905 and S88G plus are going to be easier to see the screen outdoors. As previously mentioned definitely stick with type certified for ease and simplicity. @73blazer listed a few things worth looking over in making your decision. Do you want waterproof? Bluetooth? … I know you said nothing cheap however something like a Baofeng UV9G isn’t going to break the bank, is waterproof and chirp compatible and a good radio to use while you determine what some needs or wants may be. In the end it’s your decision and I wish you luck in making it. If you are like some of us here it won’t be your last radio purchase
  6. My first thought is if the radio received a remote stun or kill. Page 108, 109 in the manual. Though random glitch is probably more likely.
  7. Damn it, I was content with the 2730A and able to tell myself I didn’t need the 2730B and then you post pictures. I can’t resist pictures! You’re costing me money. In all seriousness though thanks for the comparison. I really like my 2730A. It does pretty good paired with a Comet SBB-5 NMO. I have been thinking about getting the 2730B and moving my 2730A to the house. Looks like it would be an improvement from the bright screen of the 2730A at night especially. Have you noticed any other differences between the two or is it just the screen? I was wondering if you can swap heads between the two? Reason for this would be to keep one with mod in vehicle with the black screen and have a non mod one in the home.
  8. Here were my results KG-Q10H 2m - 4.5 watts 1.25m - 2.9 watts 70cm - 6.5 watts 6m - 1.1 watts GMRS - 5.5 watts MURS - 4.6 watts also, while similar they are not the same. The Q10H doesn’t do CB.
  9. I think we can safely say it was a joke.
  10. It wasn’t that they didn’t try. The code wasn’t like other radios. The programmers hit a wall, multiple tickets had been opened but progress stalled. A few months back RT Systems cracked it and came out with a Windows version on their site. I suspect this enabled the Chirp team to finally move forward..
  11. Other than the one negative person whom we all know which as @SteveShannon mentioned is not because of who they are but rather the stuff they say I don’t see down voting based on who someone is. Could it happen? Sure but someone would just up vote them back. It’s just a means to elevate the best technical answer. I do prefer reading things in chronological order though as it’s easier for context and it would be nice if you could make that a default setting.
  12. This^^^ I like to program my radios so they are the same. Being able to copy and paste is very useful.
  13. The Retevis RA25 and the Anytone 779UV are also listed. I noticed that all three are separately listed as well and not the typical “see this or that model”. I for one am glad to see these added being a Mac guy.
  14. It works on a Mac.
