  1. Midland has 20% off most items on their website.
  2. There are some CB tuners on YouTube and some of those have websites and offer services. Might be worth checking into.
  3. Hey new guy - welcome to GMRS and the forum. Stay in the fight and try to keep positive. [emoji123] [emoji1696] [emoji120]
  4. I keep coming back to this thread because it’s only a matter of time and one of you will tell us you wear your wife’s shoes around the house.
  5. Sounds like the new Rocky Talkie 5w would be ideal for you. As for the debate on “cheap Chinese radios” - I think they work great for some folks and it’s how I started in GMRS. Lots of features and they get the job done for relatively little money. Being someone who likes the feel of quality gear, I moved to Icom for my mobile & HT, while my son got the Midland stuff.
  6. Dude, take a breath. You posted 5 minutes ago, then quoted your own post 3 minutes ago. It’s an Internet forum, so give it time for replies.
  7. ….because that’s what we need, more government regulations. [emoji849]
  8. You might even find a plug in adapter from the D104 to Ethernet, so some web searching might be helpful.
  9. Another vote for Smiley antennas. I have their GMRS antenna on a couple Boofwangs and also on my Icom ID50 (when using GMRS frequencies). The Nagoya 701G & 771G are on my other Boofwangs and they work great too.

    GRMS Needed?

Same. Our local folks seem to use 16 most of the time, but I also scan them all just in case.

I don’t see it. Nonetheless, it’s good that we have the manners police here. [emoji849]

    Help

    We disagree.
  13. If there are repeaters near you and since you’re within the Amazon return period, yes - I’d return and get something that offers repeater capability. No sense spending money for something you won’t end up using. Consider watching some YouTube videos to get an idea of the different handhelds and their respective pros & cons. I’m not a “fanboy” but I’ve found Randy’s provides some good information on his “Notarubicon” channel.

    Help

Maybe so, but the lack of any useful information deserves some ridicule.

Really? I disagree. The OP didn’t care enough to register here first, indicating he may not even be licensed. He didn’t provide any information about his equipment either, so we’re supposed to be clairvoyant and solve his issue through the power of kindness? I think not. The OP’s comment is indicative of the very problem in our society today; people expect to be coddled and don’t think for themselves. OP could read the manual that came with his radio. He could provide more information if they expect a helpful reply. That you choose to dump on Randy suggests you’re kinda 10-ply yourself.

Put the radios near your keyboard so we can get a feel for what we’re taking about…..
  17. I’m pretty sure those ^ antennas have been out for months….
  18. I also started with CB back in the early 1970’s and found it very useful until the early 1990’s or so. I considered getting the HAM ticket, but never took the time. When building out my new 4Runner I found YouTube videos that highlighted GMRS and thought it would be a good addition. After a bit more than a year the “radio bug” bit me and I now have a couple Icom radios and will be taking the test soon, to finally get the HAM license. My son & I both have mobile radios and we have several handhelds between us. The overall clarity, range, and repeater capabilities make this feel like an excellent option for us.
  19. I know this wasn’t the question, but…. This Motorola seems pretty basic. I just picked up a pair of the new Midland MXT67 Pro walkie talkies and they seem ideal for someone looking for repeater use, but with a relatively simple menu system. Mine will go to family members that aren’t radio nerds. Note: you’ll need Midland’s own programming cable to name the channels. I’m waiting on restock to get one.
  20. While I don’t dispute this happened, the issue of asking for call signs is a bridge too far. The owner should not need to produce any such info, but even if they do I doubt anything would come of it. The government always tends to overreach and it’s up to the citizens to push back and keep them in check.
