Pro Tip: wear your walkie-talkie on your belt, because women find that sexy. Add a shoulder mic if you feel “tactical”. Don’t worry, we will be laughing because we’re jealous.

Shortest multi-band antenna recommended ???
Hoppyjr replied to WSEM262's question in Technical Discussion
My buddy is using this Larsen on his Chevy truck, with a hood lip mount and his Icom 2730. It’s only 18” total and seems to work really well. It’s apparently designed for use with public safety agencies, so I expect it’s durable (it certainly seems sturdy in person). I just ordered one for my 4Runner too, to run when I go HAM down the road. Mine will be in the existing NMO in my rear roof. Pulse Larsen NMO150/450/758 Tri-Band VHF, UHF, 7/800 MHz Antenna Part Number: NMO150-450-758 -
^ I agree. If you buy a radio with enough channel capacity you can simply store what you’ll need. I’ve got repeaters programmed for the Pacific Northwest and beyond. We have a Midland MTX575 in my son’s Jeep, which only allow only one repeater channel for a frequency (for example, one repeater on 17, one on 18, etc). It doesn’t use the PL tone, but a Midland specific code that comes from a supplied chart. It works for my son as he has two of the new Midland handhelds, which have the same programming codes.

I just ordered this tri-band from Larsen. My buddy has one on his truck and it works great. From what I can tell, this model was specifically designed for public safety, so I expect it to be durable too. Only 16.5” tall and a spring loaded NMO base. https://www.magnumelectronics.com/shop/nmo150-450-758-pulse-larsen-nmo150-450-758-tri-band-vhf-uhf-7-800-mhz-antenna-123105?gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAADuEBTPH5MCDpTMdLEZC0hCe_v3Fz&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI6ZPigsbQiQMVYHNHAR1ggwP3EAQYBiABEgIiE_D_BwE

Sometimes just trying a different USB port is the solution. My buddy was messing with a radio the other day and two of three USB ports didn’t work, but the third did.

Can’t speak to ownership, but I do believe Randy is the Queen of GMRS.
-
Have you tried contact Midland customer service to see if there is a firmware update they can apply to your radio? That would be my first stop.

There is an older guy semi-local to me who has used a mag mount mobile antenna stuck to a TV tray in his living room - and it works. He has also used a J-pole that another local gentleman has built, also with great success. I bought two of those J-poles, but with a metal roof I need to get them up high outside.

With that opinion, why are you here?
-
Well, proof of citizenship. That’s more than a drivers license in states that issue licenses to illegal immigrants. There is the right to vote, but it’s only a right for United States citizens.
-
With voter ID required.

I’m not sure where you guys live, but there are already firearms enhancements on the books in many (all?) states and federally, but those are often not used by “soft” prosecutors (see how I avoided politics?) Good luck getting a “radio enhancement” to any crime.

Maybe watch some video reviews and user experiences on YouTube, so you can get an idea of the various features offered by different brands.
-
Politicians don’t tell me that, common sense does. People that don’t vote are welcome to complain, but I won’t listen because they helped enable the problem.
-
You’re certainly entitled to your opinion, but sitting it out has the same effect as voting for the person you disagree with the most. When you examine the issues facing the country it should be clear which path is best.
-
The external antenna isn’t an option with that Midland handheld, as the antenna is non-removable.
-
Not sure why you would waste time asking here, as the model is so new it’s clearly under warranty. Your first contact should be Midland Customer Service, who will surely resolve the issue.

Taking radio to a political rally - experience?

Feature: See all repeaters that hit a certain location
Hoppyjr replied to WRXR374's topic in myGMRS.com
Did you just volunteer to make that happen? Pretty sure this is a free site, so I’m not asking for anything. -
It’s like the beginning of the “linked repeaters” silliness all over again. SMH

After reading all that my head hurts and I’m wondering….why?

I agree that the 771 antenna, be they Nagoya or Abree, should be all you need. For what it’s worth, I did the Nagoya 771 and 701 on some of the Baofeng handhelds I bought. The 771 outperformed the 701 as expected. Then I read about the Smiley Antenna “Slim Duck” and picked one up. I found it performed as well as the 771, but was significantly more compact. This in the foothills on the west side of the Cascade mountains in Washington State. I like the Smiley enough to have one on my Icom ID-50 too. Happy Hunting!
