And secret downvoting is better?
-
The part I quoted. (that should have been obvious)
-
Why do we not get notification, or a way to view, who up/down votes our posts in Tech Discussion?
-
No it ain't! (if it works) You can keep all your other GMRS channels and (maybe) use those for something else, including the standard GMRS channels.
-
I reset ch 22 and 38 to TONE and TSQL and that worked. And then set to fake DCS values, which worked. And then put the original DCS values back and it's still reading correctly. So, it's OK for now but I can't be sure it won't reoccur because it did occur on new channels I added for testing.
-
Sort by vote is default for Technical Discussion section. And it resets to that every time you open the topic.
-
OK, but it doesn't work for me! There's not much to see on a screen capture - the lines are blank except for the channel number higlighted in red. I looked at Dan's requirements for submitting an issue and I don't agree and will not be doing that.
-
I gave you an upvote for that. I have done more testing but I get the impression that no one here would care. And I don't see a pattern.
-
By quirky I meant how it works, such as keys to press (CTRL-BKSP instead of DEL), and that it tries to anticipate what to put in some columns based on what you enter in others, and that it doesn't show RX DCS when tones are same, and so forth.
-
That doesn't make any sense to me. I'm not going to write to the radio until Chirp can read from it without errors.
-
Chirp is quirky for DOS/Windows users. Be sure to read the online help page.
-
I didn't see anything major at first glance. I mentioned one thing, regarding ch. 8-14, that might be different (don't know yet). One thing Chirp is typically better at compared to most CCR software is copying channels and moving channels in a block rather than one at a time. But the DCS split problem could be important as more of the private repeaters are likely to go to split tones, though not necessarily DCS. No, and I'm not getting specific as it is by permission.
-
There is a problem that will prevent me from using Chirp to write to the DB20-G. After downloading channels, there are 2 channels (22 and 38) highlighted in red which have a mouse-over notice that says list index out of range. Both of these are set to .725 with split DCS tones. Other channels with same frequency but CTCSS tone are OK, and so are channels with DCS same on both in and out. I'll have to stick with the company software until Chirp developer(s) fix this. There are no frequency range settings for GMRS mode (not surprising). The channel list shows that TX Disable can be set to Enabled for 8-14, but whether the radio will actually transmit I can't test until I can write to the radio after the above issue is fixed. Update: I added a fake channel (.625 simplex on 44) with split DCS tones (1N, 2N) and Chirp read that OK. So I don't know exactly what combination triggers the error. Update2: Added another fake channel (.725 simplex on 46) with split DCS (773N, 1N) and this one does generate the error. And, tried a couple more combinations... doesn't appear to be related to frequency, just DCS split.

What would generate a Morse code ident on channel 6?
UncleYoda replied to WSCB609's question in Technical Discussion
You can get a smartphone app to decode CW. Not sure if leaving it running for hours would be a problem. I don't know if mine eats up storage space or just overwrites the same small amount of memory so I only let it run for a few minutes. Works better in a quiet room. -
Yes, if you ignore the numerical value of the numbers. Not as useful or what people would expect. But it is a less used search type so maybe not worth improving the code.
-
An explanation is kind of overkill for this. If it's a sortable field, it should sort correctly. But for curiosity sake, the tone sort was related to my continuing search for a repeater that could be a match for what I'm hearing. It was just to make it easier to see if I had tried the likely ones. I gave up on the CW ID approach because without a tone I keep getting the ID from the repeater I already know not the one the unidentified conversation is coming from. Tone scan also fails on the weak signal. So I'm back to getting the user IDs copied correctly.

How to place a user on your “ignored users” list

Sort repeaters by tone, list is out of order. Same on both in and out. By the way, why dark gray background and black text? (maybe I missed a theme setting, but I can override if needed)

Question about programming my new Radiodity DB40-G
UncleYoda replied to WSHW974's topic in General Discussion
Because you just set tones (and names usually) as desired on those pre-programmed channels. Probably a driver issue for the cable. Does it let you select the right comm port? -
I did get the software to work. I had a problem at first, with getting the right driver. The only issue I remember with the software programming was with channel 39 which I had originally programmed for simplex using the buttons. I don't recall any issue with entering tones. Can't you change the tones using the buttons?

Way to block TX on non-ham freqs 5RM/K5+
UncleYoda replied to UncleYoda's topic in Amateur Radio (Ham)
All that is understood. Apparently you didn't read or understand the OP and followup posts I made. I was trying something similar last night on a couple of old UV-5Rs that have RX problems and aren't as useful for normal operation anymore. Unlike the 5RM/K5+ those do have frequency range limits that can be adjusted. I was able to get one programmed with RX-only channels for GMRS plus normal TX/RX channels for 2m/440 and have only 2m/440 allowed in VFO. I tried an opposite approach on the other, making it as close to a certified GMRS unit (like the UV-5Gs I have) as possible. I wasn't able to come up with a frequency setting pair to block VHF in VFO (it has separate range limits for VHF and UHF; 0 or blank don't work). I can always do what I did on the other one if there's no solution to getting just GMRS. -
Deregulation; here’s your opportunity to make a difference!

Ham light is fine with me if they don't overdo it (or link in from distant territories). But the FRS kids and highway flagmen get on my nerves. -

But... this was about ham radios, guys. -
Way to block TX on non-ham freqs 5RM/K5+
UncleYoda replied to UncleYoda's topic in Amateur Radio (Ham)
I don't, but a few years ago there was some official at FCC that claimed using a radio that could transmit out of the allowed frequency bands just by using VFO was a violation. I don't remember the guy's name. There was a lot of discussion/argument at the time and I never heard of any resolution. I also never had a problem with out of band TX.
