Election Today - Boarded up Businesses?
CentralFloridaGMRS replied to Lscott's topic in General Discussion
Whatever happens, don't riot. Jan 6th was an embarrassment. -
No thanks. I'm good

That's another thing. Here in the year 2024 they can't call an Election on the same day. Why? Years ago they did with paper ballots.
-
Yeah. That's what the politicians tell you. Like if you don't vote you can't complain. Sure.
-
I don't vote because I refuse to be part of a system that I don't believe in. You are in fact not picking a President. You are given two choices and you didn't even pick those two. The money being spent on elections is out of control. And by voting you're contributing to the circus. It also divides the country. I don't want any part of it. When I had my Business I didn't care who you voted for. That's how I feel about my friends. Ross Perot was a good candidate because he ran as an independent. I like him, and he received a large number of votes. But because of the system he had zero chance of winning. My right to vote also give me the right not to vote. Also when you vote for one of them you're giving them carte blanche to do whatever they want.

I don't vote anymore. Waste of time. The Government overreach belongs to both political parties.

I'm getting my Ham License once I find the time to take it
-
So will they get a warning letter or a fine? I say they won't do a thing about them
-
Interesting that a few linking networks claim they're actually legal. Not sure how they could be, but I guess it's a wait and see if the FCC does anything to them.

Our Radio Shack.(First photo) Dad would go into the local Liquor Store after giving me $10 to spend on whatever I wanted. Our First radio was purchased by a local CB Store.(Photo 2) A Royce. My Favorite Radio. We purchased this tower (see photo 3) for our Roof before putting up the Radio Shack Base Antenna. The Antenna is missing in this photo. It lasted one season before crashing during an Ice Storm.

If "Open System," why the "Request Access" button?
CentralFloridaGMRS replied to NotARubiksCube's topic in myGMRS.com
Nobody has ever been fined for talking on a "private" repeater. -
A shame. I hope they keep the Station ID part of it up because I use that on my Zello Channel with no Radio Traffic
-
I'm working on getting my Ham now. I passed all the mock test. I know nothing about DMR however.

CentralFloridaGMRS replied to NotARubiksCube's topic in myGMRS.com
I'm taking the side of the repeater owner who wants it to remain private. My point being that the FCC will not help you in any way if you report someone for using your repeater. People take two sides on this. One is that the repeater is private property and the other is it's on the public gmrs channels and the FCC won't do a thing to help you. As far as I know, nobody has ever been fined for talking on a private repeater. I just find it interesting that the FCC doesn't have any way to actually fine anyone that talks on one. -

So please explain to me how they actually disallow someone? The FCC won't go after any licensed GMRS user that talks on a repeater as long as they are not jamming the repeater etc. So someone is using your repeater. You don't allow them to do so. You contact the FCC and you expect them to do what? That's my point on this issue. If you put up a repeater the FCC won't help you if you don't want someone talking on it. -

Opened or closed the FCC said you can't block people from using a GMRS repeater. If you put up a repeater you better expect someone will use it. The FCC will only address issues if someone is causing problems on a repeater, not if they're talking on it however. If I put up a Repeater I wouldn't try to hide it or request people ask to talk on it. We have the Orlando 700 and as long as nobody is blocking transmissions anyone can talk on it. No you don't need permission from the repeater owner to use GMRS frequencies regardless of the repeater being private property. You're not violating private property laws by using a repeater that's on GMRS frequencies. If you want to control who can use your repeater you need a private business (IG) license. GMRS is a shared bases only except those that were grandfathered in years ago. -
Rockland, Bangor, Portland. Many of the lobstermen use GMRS to talk home and other boats in the area.
-
So my question about this system. What could they do if you talk on the North Georgia system if you're not a member.
-
I find more seem to talk in smaller towns. Maine is active.

Zello is great and it's free. We have one for our Community because some don't want to give out phone numbers. We used it during our last Hurricane. You can create your own group and add a password. You can kick people out if they become a problem. You can also send images. it works with your internet or cell phone provider. I would stay away from the Zello Radios, however. The phone app works great

North Carolina GMRS shutting down the linked system. They ran as a non profit.

Perhaps the FCC will allow a low-watt node to be used but not allowing a repeater on the system would be a compromise that the FCC would accept. Mine won't transmit beyond a 1/4 of a mile on RF.
