Asking for a friend...

Is there anything against FCC Regs to prevent one from using their own "custom" phonetic alphabet to  broadcast their call sign?

For example:  WSHD

Window Suck Harry Donkey

or

Wonderfull Silly Happy Dwarf

That's why you have to keep it phonetically ambiguous like "Phuk" for "P" and "Kunt" for K. That way nobody gets into trouble.

You see, it's the creativity of a broader mind that will keep you safe.

You could use your call sign to convey a deeper meaning to how you're feeling....

Weeping Sad Horribly Dreadful

or

Wondrously Seeking Happy Days

You do you…there is no requirement to use standard phonetics, but, that said. If your ever in a position where you ‘really’ need to be understood, the phonetic alphabet was designed to be clear under difficult reception conditions. The words are designed to be distinct from each other so that you can grasp the words even if you only hear a portion of it. For the average GMRS operator. No one’s going to care I guess.

My stepdad was a royal navy signals officer way back in the day and a HAM operator. He was a stickler for correct phonetics and would complain all the time about the lack of consistency around the world. Especially here in the US. And when signal strength was poor, he’d complain more. We were also in a rare location (it’s a HAM thing to get contacts with rare stations) and if people did not use proper phonetics, he’d ignore them.

I use the NATO phonetics since the is what I was trained to use. But I sure won't look down on or ignore those that use something different was long as they are easy to understand.

The NATO phonetic alphabet was designed to be easy to understand no matter what your native language is.

Use what works for you and those you are talking to. The main thing is that everyone understands each other.

Nope,,  in fact its not even a FCC rule to use phonetics..   Talk in plain english..  I get kicks out of HAM nets when i identify by K-G-6-L-G-X, nice and slow and they always insist on me repeating with a phonetic call sign..  I just reply, 'i just identified per rules'..  It drives some of them nuts and equally some crazy in laughter.    One guy 'Bob' insisted on my emailing him my phone number so he can call me to discuss in person..  I just tell him, there are times for phonetic use and we are clearly understanding each other on this radio conversation so we can talk about it right here...  The guy hates me  🤣

Do whatever you want there's no "rules", but it's not very understandable unless your using some standards. When somebody calls out "Willie Muffin Bathtub Frisbee 289" the first human reaction is to go WTF, then laugh, then most likely ignore you, or ask again for the call.
