VETCOMMS Posted December 31, 2025 Posted December 31, 2025 Maybe not the place for this but I messed up some cat5e shielded outdoor ethernet cable and want to put a new end on. Does Menards or big box stores have the rj45 ends and crimped? This'll be a first for me. Quote
1 WRYZ926 Posted December 31, 2025 Posted December 31, 2025 Not all hardware stores will carry shielded RJ45 connectors which is what the OP needs. Menards and Ace Hardware do not carry them. Lowe's and Home Depot do carry shield RJ45 connectors but they are pricy. It is best to stick with shielded connectors on shielded cable. You can use regular RJ45 connectors but you defeat the purpose of using shielded cable. SteveShannon, gortex2 and amaff 3 Quote
0 OffRoaderX Posted December 31, 2025 Posted December 31, 2025 Around here you can get pre-ended Cat5e in pre-made lengths.. You can also find it on Amazon and usually get it the next-day for free (if you are a Prime member) Quote
0 WRYZ926 Posted December 31, 2025 Posted December 31, 2025 You can get new cables or get just the RJ45 connectors and a crimping tool. Menards and most big box stores will have the connectors and crimping tools. Quote

Those are not shielded connectors. The OP stated he has shielded CAT5 cable so he really should use shielded RJ45 connectors. Menards does not carry shielded Rj45 connectors. I bought mine from Amazon Here is what I bought Cable Matters 100-Pack Cat 6A Shielded Pass Through RJ45 Connectors Here is a 20 pack. I can't speak on the quality of these. 20-Pack Pass Through Cat6 Shielded RJ45 Connectors gortex2, SteveShannon, Northcutt114 and 1 other 3 1 Quote
0 Northcutt114 Posted December 31, 2025 Posted December 31, 2025 Gotcha. Sorry about that. I just googled RJ45 on Menard's website. I didn't realize there was difference. Thanks for catching the mistake. As an East Coast guy, I was just proud of myself for knowing what Menard's was. Quote

I wasn't sure if Menards carried shielded RJ45 connectors until I looked myself. I replaced all of my standard CAT5 cables with shielded CAT6 cables and shielded RJ45 connectors. I was getting too much interference between computers and HF radios with the unshielded cables. Quote
0 WRUE951 Posted December 31, 2025 Posted December 31, 2025 Any Hardwaree store will (should) have connectors, CAT5,6 prepared wire and tools to prepare and make connectors. I bought a jar of Cat connectors from HomeDepot about 3 months ago. Quote

0 VETCOMMS Posted January 2 Author Posted January 2 OK, redneck install here. Would like to get better. I don't like the ethernet cable hanging out in the wind. Is there a clip that attaches the cable to the siding? Quote
