WSKY396 Posted February 1 Posted February 1 Sounds like I think that I’m smart right? I know that I’m not and just stumbled across this reviewing hams test material. In the south San Jose hills and the Santa Cruz mountains has anyone ever thought of replicating pots/sota type stuff on simplex GMRS? Using packable mobile antennas in order to figure real world summit to summit/or valley, or testing knife-edge refraction in our local environment without repeaters? Could this be a way to make the local repeaters have something to talk about? I get it that GMRS is supposed to be for family and existing friend communications doing adventures and stuff, yet it is almost entirely silent. Quote

Just trying to figure out the point of this. Quote
WRUE951 Posted February 1 Posted February 1 POTS sounds like 'Plain Old Trump Syndrome' Never tried it. But on a serious note,, POTS can't mix with GMRS per rules. WSKY396 1 Quote

Actually that sounds like a pretty cool activity, to try something like POTA and SOTA using GMRS. You could start small by just trying to contact other GMRS users from your local parks and summits and see where it leads. Welcome to the forum! WSKY396, AdmiralCochrane and WRUU653 3 Quote

Just throwing it out there as a possible radio activity for my area if people want to go out and get poison oak while learning the capability of their radios. Incorporating land navigation(topographic maps&lensatic compass)with simplex use. It is of course a straight up rip off of hams type activities. Quote

Thank you for catching that! Good thing I put the disclaimer in that I know I’m not smart SteveShannon and WRUE951 1 1 Quote
